He trotted ahead of Cairo in the whipping wind, squinting against the snow splattering his face. Sure, the weather wasn’t so great, but it would be a challenge, right? His fur, where it was exposed to the wind, blazed like a bed of hot coals under a harsh breath, and his ink black face was enhanced by the fiery light.
He’d worn his cloak under his armor, and the hood refused to stay up over his ears, so, the tips of his ears were a bit chilly, but he ignored them as he tramped around in a wide circle of what he was pretty sure was flat ground, while Cairo took a spot in the lee of a tall boulder, shaking off the snow plastered over his face and armor with a rattle.
Ardyn, meanwhile, gave himself a shake and tested the ground under his paws, fingers of his front paws flexing and kneading the ground to get a feel for it. When he was ready, he cleared his throat and tossed a howl into the air, a thick cloud of steam flooding from his jaws and around his canines, only to be whipped away in a heartbeat as he perked his ears, eyes scanning for any takers.

Ardyn at first glance is as black as can be imagined with a raven sheen.
Closer inspection proves that he shimmers in fire tones in every hair on his hide right down to his lashes.
More obviously, he glows like a bed of coals and flames with every movement and brush of fur. His tail is usually wagging, so blazes like a torch.
His adult teeth are in and his saber canines have grown to their full length (see profile). His mane and tail hair have grown to full length, as well as being lightweight and easily buffeted by breezes.
A look at his front paws will give the impression of hands, with his dew claw dropped low and lengthened into a functioning thumb, and his toes elongated into fingers. He has retractable, solid black cat-like claws on every paw.
Ardyn has developed a glowing mast of intricate markings in fire and ice colors over his face, symmetrical over the last seasons of Year 17 (see profile for details). During hunts or raids/sieges, he will smudge them out with black soot to cover the glow, otherwise, they are bright enough to note at first direct glance at his face. Not all his artwork currently portrays the mask markings.
He is also often bedecked in beads, small bells, feathers in blues, ribbons and braids thanks to the Ooze Event of Halloween 2021, and the Coathanger item that he got. The accessories generally are seen most in his mane and tail hair. He removes the brighter items and bells for hunts or battle.
This was Panic's first time coming to the arena, her mother accepted to come with her. The Daimyo felt it was right to introduce her kid the place where she cold fight all she wanted. Well anywhere was fine, but this one was designated for just that. From the Panic strodded with excitement of being there. She wished to start a fight as soon as she stepped into the circle. And for her luck a howl asking for an opponent reached the girl's ears. With a nod from her mother, she trotted forward finding an older youth with such an awesome appearance. Smiling she just wanted to fight them. "I am Panic Phantom Klein and Ill fight you!" This would also be her first fight so she didnt know from where to start. Perhaps defenses? There she was glad she assisted to Hattori's lessons. She pinned her ears, widened her stance, eyes narrowed and lips pulled to show her growing but already usable teeth. "Go first!" Because she didnt know how to. Fear her copper head snake was around her neck, ready to aid on the battle if needed. He waited, eyes searching the white-out until two figures appeared—a woman and a young girl, clearly her daughter. Cairo, from his spot tucked out of the wind, nodded briefly to the woman as Ardyn in kind smiled at the smaller pup, tail briefly beating the air like a lit torch.
“I’m Ardyn Adravendi.” And no way was he throwing the full mouthful of his name out there. Sure, he could rattle it off with fluent ease, but others would probably forget the majority of the names. He grinned internally. She was a bit pushy, he thought, but he didn’t mind going first, though he’d caught sight of the snake about her neck and made a note of where not to attack.
He might never have seen a copperhead yet, but he knew snakes could be quite snap-happy regardless of whether they had venom or not.
He launched forward, aiming to close the distance in two bounds and come head-on, face to face before veering at the last moment, squinting against the wind and snow as he sought to surge past and get behind her, by all appearances. He hoped to draw her into guarding her back end, and thus, facing into the wind and snow instead of himself, and limiting her vision with the weather.
He aimed to swipe a paw at her nearest hind leg, claws sheathed so that if he struck, he’d only buffet her rather than leave a lasting mark. Above, Lyr balanced on the wind like a glowing spirit creature, doing his best to stay steady, ready to drop in if needed.

All the inexperienced female could do was to wait and act from what she knew until now, just bite and doge? Well, she could try! She wasnt afraid or anything, their size difference didn't matter either. She was aware she could easily lose this, someone without experience in tossing herself into a fight could easily lose. The male seemed more used to fights so she didnt care if she loses, she will do her best. The male went forward to meet her face to face. But for Panic's impression, he switched directions. And Ardyn almost got her but aimed to stop her turn in order to attempt to grab the male's long tail, aiming to get a hold on it and then pull to herself. This was from instinct, not a real tactic. The male drove his paw to her back limb. She growled before releasing their tall and then aim to bite on Ardyn's left back leg. Panic seemed to halfway fall for the ruse, and though she stopped to snatch at his tail, he kept moving, pivoting on his front paws to swing his hind end away, aiming to position himself in a loose capital L, evading the snap of her jaws for his tail with a flick of the long-haired appendage, as well as the second bite she aimed for his hind leg in the process.
He re-centered himself quickly, weight shifting to his other three legs as his right front paw shot forward, and he aimed to put his long, finger-like toes to use, seeking to wrap his hand about the girl’s near hind hock and jerk it toward himself, should the grab be successful.
Regardless of success, he sought to launch forward and downward, aiming to drive his chest into her hip, hoping to stagger the girl, perhaps to knock her over.
