The journey to Auster had been quiet, uneventful, as the small raiding party skirted from island to island till they reached the southern mainland. It wasn't a serious affair but it was a fight Hattori hoped to win, skills needed to be honed and the satchel of medicinal herbs would make a wonderful addition to their stores. The damage dealt by the Fireside raid had mostly been recouped by now but there were still a few shelves that needed stocking and with Venom's pregnancy there was always going to be a need for more. Leaving the Empress behind had been harder than he'd anticipated, but he knew she was in good paws and he would return soon. For the betterment of her Empire he would do anything and if this was what it took to garner strength then so be it.
He was wearing his shinobi armour and his tanto was fit neatly into the slot along his chest, for easy access, and those who had armour and weapons had donned theirs too. No harm would befall anyone but it seemed fitting to dress the part, to come across as true raids in all but intent. His akita and cat stuck close behind him, lingering in his shadow whilst his eagle soared above and watched from on high. The Shogun turned for one last time and cast a look over his shoulder, everyone was present and as ready as they would ever be.
It was time.
As the castle loomed before them Hattori tipped his head back and let out a resounding howl. They were the wolves of Ashen and they were here to claim what was theirs. He stepped over their border, clearly marked and pungent to his nose and began pushing further into their territory. He expected resistance at any moment and anywhere.

The trip was long but with Hela having already the excitement for the incoming battle those miles went lost into the Klein's head and now she was here marching toward the castle that mighty as it looked stood there, welcoming their little visit. She held herself with all the pride a full-blooded Klein could have, wearing the polar bear armor. Unlike the last time, she was armored to the teeth and here and now she stepped into the borders with her pink eyes lurking around with a smirk pasted on her lips. She was ready to receive her opponent. And like that Hela Klein was ready to kick their asses. |

Plague followed along behind Hattori with the rest of their clan that had decided to participate in this raid, excitement brewing in his stomach the whole way. Practice raid or not, there was nothing that could get his adrenaline up like a good fight. He wore his well fitted armor with his mysterious skull draped over his right shoulder, finally feeling happy with it and feeling like he didn't need to make any more alterations. He had debated on whether he should bring his flail or not, but he figured he'd rather have it and not end up using it than the opposite. They arrived at the grounds near the castle and he looked across the open area curiously. The structure was just as large as Hattori had described and certainly created quite the backdrop for their raid. He waited eagerly for their opponents to arrive, shifting the handle of his weapon in his mouth. |

Ulric pulled on his antler studded armor and bracers and gathered the group they had decided would participate just outside of their training area, giving them all the low down on how this would go. Practice, not for maim. He made that very clear to them all in the same way that he had been told it would be very clear to the fighters from Ashen. He was curious to see what their opponents would say when they saw how young some of their opposition would be today, but this was truly the group that would benefit most from the practice. He had slightly hoped that Ezra would want to participate, but with how he had responded during their last training session... he wasn't exactly surprised when he turned down the offer.
Pushing that thought aside, he lifted his head to the howl that summoned them. Looking back at their raid group he nodded and motioned for them to follow, loping toward the border the Ashen wolves had approached from. They were easy to spot with the black and orange splattered man at their helm. He grinned a bit as he trotted over to them. He had never been one to be excited about a fight, but he was curious to see how his lot would do and eager to get them all some real world experience. He led the charge and immediately clashed with the man he assumed was Hattori, effectively stopping him from moving any further into their territory.
He went barreling right into Hattori, attempting to slam his shoulder into the other male's with a bit of an angle to his attack, avoiding hitting the middle of his chest directly. He was more interested in knocking the man off balance than he was locking into a stand off with the male. They matched in height, but he was heavier in build so he hoped to play that to his advantage. He also went reaching for the splattered man's side, reaching past the skin that was covered by his armor to snap at the exposed portion of his ribs.

Hattori wasn't left waiting long. Out from the looming shadow of the castle emerged- what Hattori assumed to be-the leader of the defence party. The Shogun didn't have much time to eye up his opponent, or even note the similar hue of his eyes, as he spared no breath for pleasantries and instead charged on over. As though he truly meant harm. Hattori shifted his stance, paws spread and gait wide as he braced for impact. The man looked considerably heavier than himself but Hattori trusted in the strength of his reinforced bones, if anyone could bare the brunt of a heavy wolf it was him. It would take far more than that to knock Hattori off centre. The pair collided with a resounding thud and Hattori exhaled sharply between his gritted teeth as he pushed back. Their struggle like a pair of sumo wrestlers mid tangle, with no fighter at an outright advantage as they pushed against one another with all their might. Paws dug in deep, kicking up mud as Hattori's tail lashed out to maintain his sense of balance.
But there was no time to rest idle. His opponent was quick to reach around, attempting to nip out at his ribs not covered by his cuirass. Raising his head from where his neck had been bowed down in strained effort, Hattori warded him off with a jab of his horns. He did not try overly hard to land the hit as he had no interest in taking his eyes out or dealing any cosmetic damage, but if the Hallow's wolf didn't change tactics he'd only have himself to blame.

Ulric was impressed with the impact that the male opposite him took, causing the two opponents to get locked in a battle of strength. He dug his claws into the dirt under paw and widened his stance to brace himself more throughly as they pushed and struggled against each other. His nip at the man's ribs was knocked off course by a head butt from Hattori, the horns that stood out from the man's head knocking against the side of his neck near his jaw and pushing his head away from its intended target, making him snap down on thin air.
He spent a moment longer in this shoving match with his opponent, giving Hattori a bit more leeway each time as he feigned that he was tiring in the hopes that the color splattered man would lean into the shove even more. He waited for Hattori to shove back toward him again and then made a quick hop to the side away from his opponent, hoping that the sudden disappearance of his bulky form in the middle of his movement might get him to stagger. He wouldn't linger in his new position though, instead leaping back toward Hattori in an attempt to hit the broad part of his shoulder into the man's side instead of his shoulder, seeing if perhaps coming at him from a different angle might yield better results.

Hattori felt his opponent's strength waver, as though buckling from the strain of it all but given how strong he'd come on the Shogun couldn't help but wonder if it was too good to be true. As though the Hallows' wolf was making this into a battle of mind too. His breathing was measured and not overly huffy and his legs stood strong like sturdy redwood trees, this was not a man struggling to hold his own. Hattori knew a ruse when he saw one but it was a good effort all the same, he would commend him when they were done.
Instead of stumbling forward as his opponent no doubt hoped, Hattori simply shifted his weight back to his legs as he dug his front talons into the ground to steady himself. The slam of momentum had him digging in deep as his muscles tensed and coiled and he twisted to the side so that he was leading with his right side. The Hallows' wolf hopped aside at the same time and the pair broke apart for a moment only to launch themselves at one another for a second time, their shoulders angled out as they both attempted to bump check into one another.

Artorias had spent the night before meticulously adjusting and maintaining his armor in preparation for today. When Resin had informed them that a practice raid was going to be conducted on their home, the boy had felt pangs of nervousness at the prospect. This would be Artorias' first taste of real combat. All the boy had known was spars and lessons. Today, he put theory into practice. Despite the initial anxiety he had felt all through the morning while waiting for their enemies to arrive, it all seemed to melt away when he heard the call of an intruder outside the castle walls. The young man readjusted the fit on his leather barding to make sure it fit snugly to his body before grabbing his wooden sword and slinging it across his back. Ulric had led the charge out through the main gate to intercept their foes, and there on the edges of the plains, he saw them.
The other wolves were approaching the castle, five of them in total. Resin had told them that this would be a friendly exercise, and that no permanent or lasting damage was to be done to them. As they approached, Art began to wonder how he could possibly do any lasting damage against any of them since they were all larger than he was. At nine months, his body had begun to grow into its youthful adolescent size, and all his training had sculpted his muscles, but he was still a far cry from a full grown wolf. Still, the encouraging words of Resin and Sirius echoed in his mind, and already Artorias was sizing up the opposition, trying to gauge areas of opportunity he could exploit in his favor. The other wolves, like him, all wore armor and carried weapons. Good, at least this would be a fair fight. Corbin flew above the young wolf, sweeping low over the grass, then darting up to circle the battlefield and provide visual aid to his little master.
Artorias watched while Ulric took the lead and engaged with the black and orange wolf, the most distinct of the bunch. Narrowed amber eyes focused on the others, and picking out the white male with brown dappling, he went in with bared teeth and a determined snarl. All of his practice with footwork and agility paid off when he began to slalom, zig-zagging side to side in an attempt to keep his opponent guessing where the attack would finally come from while he drew his sword from its sheath. When he got within striking range, Artorias moved left—only to feign to the right at the last possible moment, using the other wolf's greater height to his advantage to lunge forward with as strong of a swing as he could manage, aimed at the joints where the wolf's paws met his legs, hoping to knock him off balance—or better yet, off his feet entirely. Even if he didn't make contact, he would be able to likely position himself to the wolf's left side, a more favorable position to continue his offensive.

It was questionable if Rudy had ever been so excited. His body was having a hard time staying still as he heard they would be going into a raid. Mock raid sure but, still a raid and he was being labeled adult enough to jump in on it. The rage of battle would be here soon! The boy didn’t wear his armor all the time but today as he put it on the simple task felt it took forever, his mind still itching for the battle. When it was time to follow Ulric out the boy stayed near Art at first knowing they would break up into fighting their opponents but it felt right to travel near him until the final clash. Somewhere above him flew his hawk but Rudy’s eyes were already on the opponent he had picked out. The wolf was shades of black and while not the largest sure seemed a good bit larger and bulkier than Rudy was currently at. The young wolf peeled away from his forward running to charge right towards her. “No mauling,” whispered a last warning to the Tasmanian devil on his back before running head-on at Hela. He wanted to slam into her and attempt to grab her neck, but this wasn’t as simple as a lean growing boy slamming into her for the Tasmanian devil would have climbed up to Rudy’s head and attempt to jump onto Hela’s! In a real fight the tactic was to go for eyes or ears, but this time it was trying to leap on and get claws on the forehead and its little teeth sinking into the top of her neck as a distraction. So, if it all played out there would be the smaller lankier wolf in front of her and a devil on her head, the two working together. He followed in the wake of his leader, the other wolves of Ashen around him. It had been some time since he had roamed in a force. Last time, he had been the leader of it. That had crumbled away in the light of kidnappings and outward forces, and the greatest enemy of all - time. A thing that had led him here, and to the moment.
He thought of his family, though the memories were muted thanks to the poison his old tutur had given him. He was here to make a new family, and become a leader among them. This time, Lament would not fail them.
They reached the castle, where their allies' territory lay. He got a good look of the foreground as they entered, knowing their ‘enemy’ had the advantage of knowing the territory. Moments later, fights broke out as The Hallows force met with them.
All but himself and Calamity were quickly accustomed, and he glanced over at the horned princess, his paw offering her a smile of anticipation.

There was only a brief pause after Hattori's summoning howl before their opponents came charging out of the castle gates with a large, dappled brown wolf at their helm. His emerald gaze immediately began to scan the rest of the wolves he was leading into battle and was surprised to see that over half of them seemed to be very young - at least from what he could tell at first glance. The brown male that led the charge went straight for Hattori so Plague looked again to the rest of the group, bracing himself for whoever would come in his direction. A lanky young man marked with black and blue started heading toward him so his gaze immediately locked onto the boy, watching with a bit of confusion and amusement as he dodged and zig zagged across the open field toward him. He was certainly fast - an advantage his younger age and still developing stature was sure to give him - but since there was nothing to block his line of sight he was able to follow his path fairly easily, his gaze shifting back and forth while he prepared himself for the actual attack. He spotted the wooden weapon that the boy was wielding a moment before he ducked to his right again and Plague immediately used his coiled legs to hop into the air, giving himself a couple of feet of clearance for the wooden sword to swing under him and avoid a hard knock at his ankles, instead just brushing the edges of his toes. As he landed on the ground again with the boy to his left, he gave a good swing of the flail held firmly in his jaws, making sure it was turned in such a way that the tusks of the boar skull was facing away from the boy. He aimed the swing toward the kid's rump, attempting to knock the back of the weighted skull against the shorter wolf's hip. Artorias was frustrated to find his sword made no contact with the intruder, instead swishing harmlessly over the grass and missing entirely. He wasn't about to be outdone, however, and the boy used his momentum to complete a turn when he landed to the white wolf's left side, bringing his sword around in his pirouette to slash upward at the wolf's face. CLACK! The wooden sword vibrated violently in his jaws as the solid oak blade intercepted the swing of his opponent's flail, the two weapons clashed and locked together. His jaws tightened his grip on his sword and Artorias fixed the invader with narrowed amber eyes and a growl in response, pushing against the other wolf's weapon. He wanted to show these wolves that even though the Hallows was a pack built on peace and healing, there were teeth and fangs behind those high walls.
He pushed with all his might against their interlocked weapons, trying to gain some sort of advantage over his opponent, but was unable to overpower him directly. He would have to outmaneuver his opponent if he was to win. His muscles tensing, Artorias turned his head just enough to slide the blade of his sword out of the lock with the flail, kicking off the ground the second their weapons parted to leap out of the incoming swing from the white brute. He moved fast, but not quite fast enough, the flail clipping the back of his hip where his armor ended and causing him to stumble a little when he landed to the wolf's side once more. Artorias was quick to recover moving back in to leap toward the man, bringing his sword in an upward swing toward his face, then a second swing at the brute's side when his paws landed on the ground once more. If he couldn't take down his foe, he would evade and exhaust him while whittling away at his defenses until he could get a good strike in.

Avantika was exactly sure what she was doing as she raced towards a stranger's battle cry beside her pack. She'd joined the raid party feeling sure of that decision. She'd been told quite clearly that the fight would only be practice. So just like a normal spar she'd do with the pups, just... Different people. That was what she'd expected. There had also been the not-insignificant pull of pride that her pack had considered her good enough to participate. But it was easy to be certain when the ramifications of a decision were far off. Now it was showtime. She forced herself to focus on the present. The slap of her paws on the earth, the puff of her breath. Reminding herself, over and over, that she was in the world and she wouldn't be able to sink into the ground or blow away like a dandelion fluff even if she wanted to. She was here. She was fighting. Kaata flew above her. They'd already decided that the little hawk would stay in the air and use her bird's eye view (literally) to tell about anything happening that she would not be able to see in the heat of battle. Ulric, Artorias, and Rudy had already flung themselves into fights by the time she arrived. She spotted a dark wolf with fiery markings (Lament) who didn't seem to be fighting anyone yet. While he was very tall, he didn't have too much meat on his bones, and he wore less armor than some of the Ashen wolves. Was that a good sign, or was she just trying to make herself feel better about her decision? She didn't know. But regardless she charged forward towards him, growling like she knew exactly what she was doing. She couldn't show her fear. That wouldn't help her here. Once she reached him, she would attempt to grab his right foreleg, just above the bracer. She wouldn't draw blood unless he moved very quickly and recklessly, but she had to have a hold. She would pull, hard, with most of her strength on the leg, trying to get the man off balance. Indigo was ready when he heard the call ring out at the border. He didn’t recognize the voice but then again it had also been quite some time since he’d been associated with Ashen. He was much more relaxed during this raid, the one he’d gone with the pack to take on Aerie had been an intense fight. He’d only just managed to keep his luxurious violet tail.
The stakes weren’t as high, but still his deep chest puffed with pride as he lifted his nearly fully maned head. He was a massive beast now, the long thick fur around his neck bristled as he moved forward to meet the oncoming force. Indigo was determined to prove himself, to Resin, but also a part of him that didn’t want to admit, for Cosette. He wanted to impress the tiny girl, but he hadn’t come to terms with the why of it yet.
As his fellow took on their opponents Indigo brought up the rear of the party, but he was partnerless for the moment. Vibrant blue eyes searched out any wolves that might be heading towards him.

Hela waited "patiently" for her opponent unless someone coming caught her eye first, but as far as she could tell no one of interest did. But soon a pup seemingly picked her as a target which she frowned at. Why on earth would a pup dare to fight her? If he did she couldn't fight on her full ability, guessing hurting a pup would send their annoying parents up to hunt her. But what if the pup was starting the shit? Well as the pup rushed her way she let the thinking to aside for now. Eyes narrowed, ears pinned and eyes under her Polar bear armor that covered both her head and part of her pack. She snarled a bit too annoyed for having the disgrace of fighting a kid. They were like the man of Ashen's raid, one that couldn't fight without a shitty companion. And it seemed the pair didn't saw her head was actually armored by a polar bear's head and hide. Taking advantage of that she would rush forward and would attempt to slam her chest against the pup's head, not too hard to cause damage but hopefully to give them a lesson, a lesson for perhaps making them regret choosing her as their opponent. She was new to war games, but she'd been butting her head against things since before she could walk. Calamity enjoyed a good spar: one on one, simply two opponents figuring out how to best each other. You could get an excellent read on an individual by how they chose to fight. The chaos of the raid was new to her; no time to carefully calculated moves, weighing consequences, then acting... with a start, just as they approached the castle, she realized that maybe she'd never really had a proper fight at all. She'd only ever played at fighting. The realization invigorated her. Determined to come away from the raid having learned something and proven herself useful, Calamity ranged around the scuffling parties to try and find a way into their stronghold. The Hallows was well-equipped, although she did squint a bit as she saw two pups entering the fray. It was "practice" after all, but was this the best they had to offer? Klein superiority always found its way back to her, no matter how alone she felt.
Calamity dove in towards the center of the fray, shouldering her way past some duelers. What if she could just sneak on in and... Oh! Well. There was no getting past that. A very big, purple thing was blocking her way. He looked just a shade familiar. Was that Sirius' son? It had been ages. How had he wound up here, apart from his family? Cala stuffed her thoughts down. This was how fights were lost. Instead she lowered her head, antlers-first, and ran straight for Indigo's left shoulder.

He had charged in fast and the excitement of his first raid had perhaps gotten to his head, it wasn’t until they had connected that Rudy saw both of their grave errors, certainly, it took the devil little time to realize their error also. With Rudy right next to her there was no way to evade Hela’s chest shoving into him however, they were also close enough and she was holding back enough that Rudy found he was able to soak up the bash well enough, one paw stepping back. It caused a moment of disorientation which was going to stop real strategy but then again when had lack of thought ever got in Rudy’s way? That one step back included Rudy’s head swinging up then down as he got focus and what his mind first connected to was her legs. Lunging in he attempted to run right past her, but as he went in that first stride he attempted to bite her leg and if he got it then to not let go and hopefully make the larger wolf lose her balance. Certainly, his devil wasn’t being any help. The beast had a nasty temper and had grown angry at her protective gear. In its rage, it had sunk its fangs into a portion on the neck and was doing its best to rip into it. The creature didn’t care about hurting her at the moment, just the obstacle. Indigo was quite the massive wall of wolf and he wasn't about to allow the Ashen warriors through, practice or not. He wasn't forced to wait for very long as his opponent found him. Bright blue eyes fell on the monochrome woman, he didn't know which one she was but even if he was still in the Armada he'd never been able to tell the once Empress's children apart. This one had eye sonly for him and Indigo might have been in much more trouble if he had not been paying attention.
The woman sprang at him with ferocity, lowering her antlered head as she went for his shoulder. Indy reacted with a swiftness and opened his fanged jaws and aimed to grab hold of her right antler before she could gore him. If he was successful Indigo would aim to shake his head and hopefully put Cala off balance at the very least. The boy bent his joints and grounded his massive paws as he refused to allow her forward.

Plague felt the chain of his flail get hung around his opponent’s sword, locking their weapons together as his emerald eyes caught the amber gaze of the boy. His eyes narrowed as well and he growled in response, pulling back against the locked weapons as they got stuck in a tug of war. The young man put up more of a fight than Plague was expecting, which impressed him, but there was no way this black and blue boy could over power him like this. It seemed like the Hallows fighter realized this sooner rather than later as he eventually turned his head and pulled his sword free of the flail, freeing his weapon to continue its swing. The leather wrapped boar skull connected with the boy’s hip as he spun back around toward Plague’s side. It was little more than a clipping blow, but it was enough to stagger the boy for a moment and give him a second to reset his stance from the slight off setting their battle of wills had caused. Just as he was getting settled into his defenses, that wooden sword swung at his face, making him duck out of the way to avoid the swing, the point of the weapon just barely scraping his cheek. The swing the boy took at his side was harder to dodge and it connected with a solid thud, making him wince as the glorified stick left behind what was sure to be a pretty good welt behind. With a growl, Plague spun as if he was going to take another swing with his flail at the smaller male’s hip and side, but let go of the weapon at the last minute. The flail would certainly have enough momentum to continue mostly on the same path, though it wouldn’t hit as hard if it did connect at all. He instead reached with open jaws toward the top part of the boy’s leather armor around his back, wanting to grip the piece of leather and use it to toss the young man to the ground. The wolf of coal and shadows that came charging into the battlefield set her eyes upon him. He Ademre had time only to tilt in his head in respectful greeting, before she engaged him. The sound of fighting around him told him almost - if not all - of the wolves that had come with him were similarly engaged.
As she attacked him, his caracal came shooting out from between his legs with a growl. Striving to throw her off balance with his sudden appearance. His Golden Pheasant trilled from her position on his shoulders.
Lament, for his part, let the wolf grab his leg. As she came in close, he snapped his fangs near her ear, seeking to scrap one elongated fang across her ear if he was able to. He grunted as she pulled against his leg. His weight he distributed to his three remaining legs as she pulled at the right. He rose the leg she grabbed, trying to shake her free, and drive his knee into her chest.
