A pirate's life for me
Glitch, Sparrow

Piece had journeyed not very far from his temporary den on a hunting trip. He hadn't found anything. It was so snowy and cold here that he had no idea it was even spring yet. It certainly didn't feel like spring. He was grumbling to himself about this (something to the point of "this sucks, the world sucks, everything sucks") when he found a whole system of caves. He stared at them from the opening for a few moments. It was dark in there. He was still adventurous enough that once he decided he was going in, he didn't hesitate one more second. He walked in, head held high. There seemed to be no other animals at all anywhere here, so he wasn't likely to find anything here. That was how his logic worked, at least. It was nice to get out of the wind, anyway. |

Brr cold, brr cold, brr cold! Sparrow hopped around and as soon as she saw the caves, she made a bee line for them, trying to touch the snow as little as possible as she jump-hopped through the space between her and the blessed shelter. She bounded into the entrance and shook her coat for possibly a solid minute to free it from the powdery fuckery people called snow. She then gnawed on her toes to break the ice clusters free and to hopefully give her paw pads a chance to thaw out before she had to brave the freeze again.
It took a while, but when she was at least somewhat done, Sparrow stood and took stock of her surroundings. Caves. Yup. It was a cave. No bear or other creature scent around except- oh hey that was a fresh wolf smell. Sparrow threw on a dumb face and called into the tunnel, "Heeeey, anyone heeeere?"

"Heeeey, anyone heeeere?" Piece wasn't exactly sure what possessed him to move towards the voice, other than that he hadn't seen other wolves in a long time and he was getting tired of it. He would never say he was lonely. That was an weak emotion, one of those little, long-oppressed squirming things that occasionally tried to overthrow the command anger held over the gray brother's mind. He would consider all of those attempts futile. Anger was a strong emotion, when properly harnessed--which Liev figured he had--one of the very, very few. Most emotions--sadness, joy, fear, and so on--were weak and had no reason to be kept. Emotions were sentimental, stupid things, maybe worthy of more insubordinate wolves, but they were not for someone like Piece. When he reached the girl, he scanned her up and down, not entirely sure what she was playing at. She was wearing a dumb expression on her face. Huge though. Quite a bit taller than the Volg-Volkolv man and bulkier too. He had to admire that, even if she didn't look like she had much going on up top. "Hey." |

As a man approached, Sparrow's dumb grin grew wider and her tongue lolled out of her maw. He greeted her simply and Sparrow ducked her head at him in response. She took a moment to stretch and shake her fur once more. "It's really comin' down out there huh?" Sparrow tossed a glance behind her at the near wall of snowfall at the mouth of the cave. "You escaping the cold or do you, like, live here?" Either was fine with her, but his scent was only fresh and there weren't any layers of it here so she assumed he was just visiting as she was, perhaps to adventure, but perhaps to get out of the snow. "You go spelunking often?"

God, the absolute stupidity radiating off of this bitch. Piece wasn't much of an intellectual himself, but this was almost impressive. She looked as if her brain had been eaten away by maggots. That is if she'd ever had a brain in the first place. Liev doubted that. He didn't know why he didn't try to fight her. It would have been his usual instinct. But somehow, his alone time had made him ever so slightly brighter--just a minuscule amount--but it helped. He held himself back, choosing temperance and patience for what very well might have been the first time in his life. And now for small talk. Piece hated it. "It's cold out," the man said to answer her inquiry. Why couldn't he just fight her and get this over with? "What are you doing here?" He didn't care, but he didn't have anything else to say. He did try his best to keep his voice from reflecting his inner frustrations. Still, it wasn't like he was experienced in that activity. |

The man looked at her like she was a log, and honestly Sparrow decided it was better that way. It was more fun to not think, first of all, but it was also a better surprise for them when they learned she COULD, in fact, think. He did give up that it was simply cold out and he didn't live here, then returned the question and Sparrow shrugged, "Well, same I guess, but that's so boring. I was kinda hopin' you were one of the guys who drew these things on the wall." She gestured to the cave paintings. She'd seen something kind of similar, but still wasn't any better at feeling like she could interpret them. "See, that one looks kinda like you!" she pointed to literally the most generic wolf on the painting. They all looked the same. "And looks like you're fighting a uh..." She looked at the large tusked beast with its stupid snake-nose thing raised in the air. "Well, whatever it is, looks pretty tasty." Sparrow flashed the man a grin, half expecting him to snap at her for her banter. "Name's Sparrow by the by. Don't worry- you don't have to tell me yours. I assume when the snow calms down we'll go on our merry way- me with my pirate band and you with uhh-" she motioned back to the mammoth in the painting, "- With the big guy here."

At this point, Piece was beginning to tune the woman out. He felt increasingly bored and irritated by this conversation and just wanted to leave as soon as possible. His internal monologue groaned at every sound that came out of her mouth. She was gesturing at drawings on the wall, and he didn't care. She was telling him her name, and he didn't care. She was talking about her pirate band, and--Wait. "Pirate band?" he asked suddenly. This woman was a pirate? And, if he was correct, "her pirate band", as in "her", as in she was the leader. Maybe there was something behind that dopey look on her face. And if there wasn't, well, that just meant he could take her place soon enough. Crap on a caribou. Glitch would not be happy if he'd ruined their chances of getting in. |
