Rœkia and Lukina worked their way southward before turning west to cut through the center of Boreas. They'd stopped in near a large river for the night and when morning rose Rœkia went off to go hunting, leaving Rœkia at the makeshift den site. Lukina was playing outside when she started following a rabbit. How neat would it be to catch the rabbit and show Rœkia? She was about to spring when she realize there was a pack scent on the border. Sniffing lightly she started following the border, wondering how far it went. She was pulled out of her exploration as she heard paw steps heading for her. At first she thought it was Rœkia but instead she saw a gigantic black wolf heading toward her. His red eyes seemed to glow and a second later he leapt for her. Lukina yelped in shock as she just managed to avoid the wolf's teeth.

Kitsune was fascinated by the borders. There was a whole world out there that she wanted to explore. So many stories to uncover, so much to see. Sometimes she was nothing but a daydreamer, staring out beyond the confines of her life, and daydreaming about what was out there.

She was doing such a thing today when she heard the sound of scuffing paws, and the next thing she knew a rabbit was bounding almost right over her prone body. She launched to her paws in surprise. She almost went after the rabbit first, before she saw - not only the white wolf that had chased it, but the other, bigger wolf chasing her.

“Behind you!” she squeaked, but the amber eyed stranger had already seen the danger and jumped out of the way. Fur bristling, kit darted forward. “This is Ashen lands, begone demon!” she cried to the dire wolf, launching herself at its hind legs.


Speech

Rœkia set her focus to hunting, eager to find something for breakfast before the duo continued on their way in the search for warmer weather. She'd been about to spring for a turkey when she heard a startled yelp. The sudden sound startled the turkey and Rœkia scowled as she lost her meal. She assumed Lukina had tripped over something or burned herself trying to start a fire without supervision. This thought was put to rest when she heard a fierce growl. Ah hell…

Rœkia raced across along the river toward the source of the sound where she saw Lukina, a strange horned pup, and a large, dark-pelted male. Rœkia didn't slow down at all. As the wolf turned to go for the horned pup, Rœkia ripped into the right side of its face. Her fangs pierced the flesh above the brute's eye and down in his cheek. When she snapped her fangs together blood poured from his face and the main muscle responsible for opening his jaw on that side shuddered from the blow.

Lukina scrambled away, planning to run when she heard the tiny voice speak again after it had warned her. She sensed the dire wolf's attention had turned and she risked looking behind her to see a young horned pup, about her age. Oh no! She couldn't just abandon the other pup. Puffing up her chest she turned to attack. As she did her cousin appeared out of nowhere and violently attacked the man. Searching for an opening Lukina bounded forward and managed to catch hold of the wolf's tail. She bit down hard and then held on as the larger wolf thrashed and snarled.

Eep! she lost her grip as the great beast swirled, turning on her. She saw a flash of very sharp, long teeth coming towards her and then something grey smashing into the side of its face. The pup blinked a couple times, trying to understand what she was seeing, before realising the addition to the dires face was another wolf - attacking the beast.

Seeing the girl her age latch on to the greater wolf's tail bolstered Kit again. Shaking the pain from her head where the beasts fangs had scrapped her before intervention had knocked them aside, she leaped. She grabbed the tail closer to the base, in front of Lukina, and helping the smaller wolf to pull and yank on the limb.


Speech

Rœkia set her defenses and prepared herself to go on the offense again. The dire lunged for her but there was a noticeable struggle to his gait and she spied the pups on the brute's tail but she couldn't take in the sight for long for even with two pups on his tail the dire moved swiftly. Rœkia saw the fangs going for her own face and she swiftly ducked her head, twisting as she caught the dire by the throat. As she rotated her head to avoid the dire she felt his lower fangs cut her cheek but she used the momentum to her advantage and she braced herself against his weight as she clamped her jaws over his throat. Somewhere nearby her magpie companion, Wolf, dove for the dire, pecking brutally at its face. The dire wrapped his arms around her and she could feel the weight pushing her down.

Lukina held on tight to the dire wolf's tail. The other pup joined her and her tail started to wag despite the fear that was clenching her stomach so hard she might've thrown up if her teeth weren't busy with a wolf tail. The dire wolf lunged forward and Lukina reached up with her front paws, using her claws as best she could to cling to the tail. Out of the corner of her eye she could see Rœkia continuing the fight. She debated if she should try to hold on or just let go but opted just to hang on. She wasn't sure she could reach the dire wolf's belly and she didn't know what else to do so she just held on, she held on for dear life.

Kitsune squeaked as the dire moved forward, yanking them along the ground. She saw her tail-companion hold on with paws and teeth, and Kitsune followed suit. Digging in with her cat like claws to hold on as tight as she could. She glanced at the other wolf who had come to their rescue. She was locked into battle with the Dire. there had to be more that Kitsune could do…


She looked forward, at the wolf's rump, she looked down - and noted that the creature was male. The proof was in the pudding. Or, in this case, dangling under its belly. She pulled herself closer to the tail, and then pushed off, leaving with her fangs in an attempt to grab its balls and bite.

Speech

Rœkia collapsed under the weight of her opponent as he forced her onto her back. Her fangs lost their hold but the damage was extensive. Blood poured from the dire's throat and he staggered. She could feel his weight baring down on her, pushing her into the snow and making it hard to breath. The wolf's jaws launched for her face and they sparred with teeth on teeth. She'd just managed to seize his bottom jaw as he grew weaker when suddenly the dire wolf yowled and bolted forward, racing off of her with a duo of pups hanging off his hindquarters. One on his tail and one on his… oh my. The dire didn't get far before collapsing from the blood loss at his throat. He likely wasn't long for the world. Rœkia sprinted over to the fallen dire and latched her jaws once more around his throat until he passed. Once the threat was extinguished she sat back heavily. "Well… that was something. You kids alright?"

Lukina couldn't see very well what the other girl was doing so she just focused on her task. Or at least she tried to. In all honesty her jaws were getting tired and so she used her claws and climbed onto the back of the dire wolf's left thigh. Suddenly the wolf sprang forward. What was happening?! She saw the other girl had bitten the man in his naughty bits and it must've hurt very bad. Suddenly the dire wolf collapsed and Lukina was sent sprawling in the snow. She scrambled back to her feet, panting and exhausted as she looked to see Rœkia kill the man. It didn't phase her. She'd seen her cousin kill before. The only reason she was even here was because of the coup and so she was hardly phased at the sight of a dead wolf. She nodded. "Yea, I'm ok." She glanced at the other girl, tail wagging lightly. "Hey! You fight really good, I like your horns!"

Her strike landed, and her claws were hanging on awkwardly from his rump, her teeth in his bits when he jolted forward in alarm. The jerking stride bounced her around a bit and she would have fallen off if he didn’t collapse a moment later.

Landing heavily on the young girl and driving the breath from her lungs. He was still breathing, and then suddenly… he wasn’t. She was only under the huge beast a moment longer before the older stranger lifted him up enough for her to crawl free.

She shook out her body with a wince, feeling bruised and battered from the short run in, but otherwise okay. She did have that cut on her cheek, something the older wolf mirrored. She reached up and gently patted the older grey wolf under her cut and smiled at her, before turning to the white pup. “You're pretty good yourself!”

Speech

Rœkia took a moment to catch her breath as the girls spoke with each other. She opened her mouth to speak but only hissed in pain from the wound on her cheek. The adrenaline had pushed it from her mind but now she could feel the warm, sticky blood matting her fur. Ack… She reached up a paw to touch it and saw her paw pads stained. She was going to need to do something about this. Blood might attract other predators besides a face wounds propensity to bleed. Not to mention the horned girl had a similar injury. "Hey Lukina, get my herb bundle off the travois. I need to treat this. Behave and I'll give you a lesson on yarrow. The leaves make an excellent poultice to stem bleeding and help ward off infection." Packing a simple poultice over the wound would work for now. She'd heard of some warriors packing dried leaves directly into serious wounds but she had some fresh and would prefer that instead. She glanced at the other girl. "I can help you with your wound as well. What's your name? I'm Rœkia."

Lukina glanced over to her cousin as the older woman asked her to get the herb bundle so she could treat her cheek. Bouncing up, Lukina loped over towards where the travois had been stashed. She didn't want to miss out on an opportunity to learn some more about healing and cuts was something she'd been begging for lessons on. She took the bundle between her teeth and ambled back before setting it down at the older wolves paws. "And I'm Lukina." She added as she heard introductions start. Without having to be prompted, Lukina unrolled the herb bundle and pawed through it before pointing to one particular plant with white flowers. "This one was the yarrow right?" She was pretty sure it was but decided it would be better to double check.
