Once everyone was in position and ready it was time for Álarr to officially get the hunt going. Brynhildr returned to him to let him know that all was ready. Afi had refused to participate, feeling that hunting something so big was stupid. If they failed the cat would happily say I told you so. If they succedded, he'd happily join in the feast. Álarr tipped back his head and howled as loudly as he could to let everyone know the hunt had started. He was uncertain if his voice reached all the way to the gorge but either way, Brynhildr had already taken off toward the gorge to alert Hyacinth and Ares that the herd would be on its way.
Álarr charged toward the herd of mammoths. There were about nine total and he aimed for the one farthest at the back. He'd never had good control over stick weaponry like spears so he left that to those who were more experienced. Instead, Álarr lowered his head so his horns were aimed right at the back of the nearest beasts ankle. He rolled his shoulders forward, scrunching his neck back to help protect it as he rammed his head into the mammoths flesh. The reaction was almost immediate. The mammoth jerked forward, startled. A strange low rumbling coming from its mouth as it kicked back. Álarr slid across the snow, shaking out his head before going back in. The note of pain and the disturbance of one started to ripple through the herd as the headed west.

Sparrow was fast behind Alarr, Friar on her back with as many pokey things as he could manage, and Pongolo flying overhead for good measure and message spreading. The big beasts ambled in their herd and Sparrow waited as Alarr picked one out. He rammed his horns into the creature's leg. As it lifted its back leg to kick back, Sparrow chose the other back leg to try to climb. She tossed herself around to the other side. With his other back leg trying to smush Alarr, it wouldn't be able to lift this leg as she climbed up it at least for a brief moment, giving Sparrow the upper edge. She leapt and latched onto the furry beast, Friar quickly escaping her shoulders and clamoring the rest of the way up the animal. Sparrow took a bit more effort as the creature was now aware of her and swung halfway back to knock her off. She made it up to the creature's hip when its long trunk grasped around her face, attempting to flick her off. It would probably have worked if Friar hadn't used the opportunity to stab it with one of his spears. The mammoth bellowed and Sparrow hoped the others were able to draw its attention away from her or that trunk was going to be an issue.
Sparrow has a female Harlequin Macaw named Pongolo and a male Capuchin monkey named Friar, and a hairless mushroom tuxedo cat named Beef Sandwich. She also has cat claws... and some weird leg spike things.

Ash loped behind his nephew and his daughter as they went off to the hunt. He was eager to have some fun, but wouldn't mind hanging back a little to see how things panned out. When Alarr chose one, Ash couldn't help but be surprised at how large they were and their horns. He swore if someone got gutted, he wasn't going to even try to save them. Alarr went in first and then Sparrow went in for her climb. Ash kicked off more towards the front leg in front of the one Alarr went for. He had fought gators and some things similar and it usually served to have a lot of attacks from a lot of angles. He went in for a quick bite and quickly dropped back as to not steer it away. He just wanted to draw its attention and give everyone else an opening.
Ash wears a tourist shirt and a spiked leather harness from time to time. Sometimes together, sometimes not. Just so you know what you're getting yourself into.

Hyacinth was hunkered down in the gorge, it had taken a bit of time to take a roundabout way into the hiding spot he and the starmarked man he was instructed to lay in wait with. Though he didn't particularly resemble his other siblings some part of Hyainth couldn't help but wonder if he wasn't the only Acari bastard running around. Though of course, the male called Ares was distinctly more muddy than any of his siblings. The pirate put the idea out of his mind as he settled into a crouch, not totally hidden but not laying in wait for the path. The cold winter-like wind whistled through the gorge, his mismatched gaze drifted upwards catching a familiar figure circling above them, obviously enough that it was the signal the pair were waiting for. Hyacinth coiled his haunches, narrowing eyes and waiting for what he imagined would be the obvious sound of a massive creature stampeding towards their location. "Speak" Think |

Dagrún waited eagerly for the hunt to get started. She couldn't wait to see one of these creatures up close and while she had been told not to climb them she still debated about whether or not she was going to actually listen to the instructions. In some ways she'd almost feel safer up on the creature than where she could get trampled. Well, if it weren't for that cliff. That would pose a bit of a problem. Dag was great at climbing things but not so great at getting down off of them.
When Álarr called the start of the hunt Dagrún howled as loudly as she could, an eager and excited call. Ok, finally, time to get going. She bounded forward, diving for the herd with her tail wagging as she bounded through the snow. She snarled and bit at the nearest one. It took a moment for the beast to notice her but when it did it suddenly shuffled to the side like she were some sort of disgusting mouse or bug.

Katja had loped along in silence along with the rest of the hunters as they approached the herd. Her half-brother and one of the strangers had split off to the gorge and would presumably be prepared for their arrival. She didn't know her half-brother well - hopefully he was not the feckless sort and would, in fact, be ready. She stretched her muscles carefully as they waited, and then came her uncle Alarr's signal, and Katja bounded forward through the snow. At first as silent as she'd been on the way there, and then as her small form darted around behind the herd like a sheepdog she began to bark and snarl, the sharp threatening sounds accompanied by her throwing herself at the back legs of one mammoth as her sister did, and slashing with her fangs before leaping away again with a salvo of barks. Regardless of how large they were, one couldn't ignore something biting at you for long, and the mammoth moved ponderously to threaten them with its huge tusks. That wouldn't do, they needed it to run, not stand its ground. Frustrated, Katja barked and snarled in its face, dancing back and forth.

Torrent stood poised and waiting as Alarr sent his pet off to see that all was in readiness, and his signal for them to start the hunt pulled a toothy grin that was more bloodthirsty snarl than smile from the chimera. Asriel had joined her during the weight, though a snow leopard was not as useful in a stamina chase than a wolf. He bounded through the snow beside her as they approached the herd, but his attention was caught by the two young wolves being threatened by the mammoth and he left her side to leap towards that mammoth's ear, clinging and slashing at its face before leaping clear. The creature bellowed and turned toward the new threat, only to suddenly find Torrent in a snarling, blazing rage leaping for his long, heavy nose. She twisted away just in time to avoid its tusks, one clipping her hip and sending her rolling before she leaped back to her paws to return to the fray. The encircling threat must have been too much for the mammoth, who spied the one route to safety left open to it and suddenly broke for freedom. Hopefully its retreat would trigger the others into fleeing.

It was time to get this hunt going. Asvor stretched out before they were scheduled to all come together, spending some leisure time with Valdis. Surely she'd come home by the end of this feeling exhausted and worse for wear, but hopefully it'd be worth it. They would feast plentifully after this hunt and no doubt have a vast amount of crafting materials to gather from the downed beast. Asvor was interested in what some of the pack might come up with.
She bid her farewells and moved to meet the others once Alarr called. Quickly she joined in behind the rest, admittedly a bit slower thanks to her age but just as persistent. Before long she caught up - though she knew if nothing else she'd be just another wolf to spook these beasts into fumbling somehow, eventually. Her voice joined in the chorus of snarls and barks, trying to startle the mammoths to push forward even harder. Due to their size she was sure such a speed was unsustainable though. Though she did little on her own she kept up with the others, once even nipping at the heels of one of the monsters and urging it forward a bit faster.

Álarr raced along and recalculated his next move. Instead of ramming the front of his horns into the mammoth he tilted his head instead, to aim the sharp tips at the back of the beast's ankle. Kicking off sharply with his hind legs he dove straight ahead and collided into the mammoth's ankle. He heard the horrid sucking sound of his horns sinking into flesh and suddenly the mammoth jerked forward, dragging Álarr with it for a few steps before he managed to shake himself free. With the combined efforts of the pack the mammoth bolted and as it broke rang the others began to scatter. Álarr kept up the pace, trying to ignore the strain in his neck. Soon they were nearing the cliff

Dagrún danced away from the mammoth before its attention went elsewhere. She eyed the beast again but couldn't help but feel she was rather ineffective. She watched as Sparrow and torrent climbed one of the beasts and deciding that no one was paying attention to what she was doing Dagrún raced toward the nearest mammoth leg and with a flying leap she leapt onto the leg. Her claws held fast and the creature jerked forward at a more urgent pace. Dag did her best to climb, managing to make it to the thigh before she realized she didn't have much of a plan. Opting to park herself where she was she started biting and chewing wherever she could, pulling out large chunks of fur
