Traders, not traitors
Hallows diplomacy meeting

Coming down from the north had been far easier than going up into it. After leaving Incindium, it was a pretty quick journey to pass through The Battlefield and the Veteran's Plateau, bringing them to the edge of an old farm that made up part of Fireside's territory. By that point it was late in the afternoon and he considered setting up camp and waiting till morning to call for their alpha, but in the end he forged ahead and decided to get one more meeting done for the day before they started making their way toward the packs in the west. If they could knock out Incindium and Fireside in one day that would put them ahead of schedule - or at least make up for the day they had lost navigating their way through the Polar Sound.
He stopped well before they had any risk of crossing the scent markers, giving himself a shake to straighten out his coat and glancing toward Artorias to make sure his traveling companion was ready. Once he was set Ulric lifted his head to howl for their alpha, settling back on his haunches so he could roll and stretch his ankles and paws. There was just two more packs to travel to and then they could go home and one of those packs was mostly just a hello to a distant relative of sorts. It was all smooth sailing from here so perhaps they could even make it back home faster than he had originally anticipated.

Artorias was grateful to be leaving the north behind them, slipping back into the warmer climates of Boreas as he and Ulric traveled south towards the next pack on the checklist: Fireside. Artorias knew nothing about Fireside or of the wolves that it was made up of. In fact, he didn't think he'd ever met a Fireside wolf before. Curious to find out more about this mystery pack, Artorias eagerly followed alongside his alpha. The traveling was getting to be tiring, but in a good way. Artorias had wanted to see the world, and he was getting his wish. The two wolves approached the borders of Fireside's territories, and as he had gotten very good at predicting, stopped a respectful distance from the scent markers that formed the hard line. He gave a short nod when Ulric looked at him, and then sat back to wait for whoever would answer their greeting.
While they waited, Artorias looked out over the wide expanse of farmland, eyes running over the old structures and the plains surrounding them. On the other side of the territory, he could see a large orchard of fruit trees, the leaves rustling in a warm breeze. He had to admit, this place was very picturesque, and he could see why wolves would want to settle down here.

(This post was last modified: 06-06-2021, 01:02 PM by Tyrian. Edited 1 time in total.)
Being equal parts suspicious and self-sufficient, Tyrian had neglected what others in his position likely would have considered a necessary facet of governing. Not once in his reign had Tyrian sought out his neighbors and tried to make friends, or at the very least tried to suss out potential allies from potential foes. He liked to think himself too busy, but that wasn't true. It was a lack of interest, perhaps, combined with a stiff-necked pride and a penchant for letting the cards fall where they may. For that reason the foreign scent on the breeze and the fading echos of a howl put his head on a swivel. Tyrian may not have felt the need to go out to the packs and play the part of an important political big man, but he wouldn't sneer at those that came to his border for similar reasons. At least not right away. He had curiosity to satisfy first. As he approached Tyrian considered the pair, his gaze open and unabashed. They were a bit of an odd couple, but he could see nothing amiss about their manner or appearance that immediately piqued his suspicion. The younger, he mused, could have passed for a bastard brother of his, but given the unlikelihood of that it didn't warrant more than an amusing thought. "Gentlemen," he said smoothly, his gaze settling on the elder who he assumed would take point. "What brings you to Fireside?" Once directly across the border from the pair, Tyrian stopped walking, his head tipping to the side slightly in casual consideration. "" |

Even though he was eager to start making their way back toward Auster, he was still patient in their waiting at the Fireside border. It was nice to take a seat for a moment if nothing else. He had expected the journey to be a long one, but he hadn't expected just how much he was going to miss being home. He nudged the thought aside though as a large, saber fanged man approached them from the distance, clearly the one that would answer the call. Ulric gave the fellow alpha a polite dip of his head to the simple greeting they were given, a friendly grin pulling across his scarred features. Everyone was neutral at the very least in Ulric's eyes until proven otherwise and this man seemed amicable enough so he had no reason to hold suspicion or be anything but friendly in return.
"Hello there. We're traveling through Boreas to introduce ourselves and do a reintroduction of sorts for The Hallows. I'm Ulric Adravendi. I took over the pack recently. This is Artorias Carpathius, the heir of the pack. I wanted him to get a taste of the job and be more familiar with the other packs before he took the reigns so he came along for the trip." He glanced to Art, letting him give his own greeting if he wanted before looking back to the man in front of him with another smile. "We've been raising alpacas for a few seasons now and we've gotten a pretty good herd together so while we're out visiting I'm looking to see if anyone would be interested in setting up some trades as well or at least just let you know the offer is on the table."

The wait wasn't incredibly long, but it did afford Artorias some time to glance around the Fireside lands. They were very open and grassy, large expanses of golden fields going as far as he could see. Off in the distance, he could see a fruit orchard. It was quite picturesque and serene out here; he could see why wolves would choose to take up residence here. Before long, a wolf approached them, a stocky brute swathed in dark slate fur that reminded him of his own dark coat. As the man came closer, Artorias noted the saber fangs jutting from his lips and silently wondered just how many wolves in Boreas had these sorts of teeth. The wolf greeted them openly and regarded them with civility. Ulric introduced them and explained their reason for their impromptu visit.
"A pleasure to meet you, sir," Artorias greeted the Fireside alpha with a respectful bow of his head to the wolf equal to him in height, unable to address him by name just yet as he had not introduced himself. "Beyond alpacas and wool, our pack specializes in advanced healing and medicines. Should any Fireside wolf find themselves needing treatment or your healers need assistance, our masterful doctors are welcoming to all." Sometimes, he felt like he was the only wolf that remembered what his mother had originally established the Hallows for. A place of healing and sanctuary for all walks of life who needed a helping paw. If he were helping Ulric re-establish the image of their pack, he wanted that to be what they remembered of the pack to the south. A place of safety and recovery.
