Location; The Boneyard

The feel of the wind after leaving the Cathedral was bristling, and she was having regrets of leaving the peaceful trees too. She wasn’t that eager about the grapes as Segin was, but she wished more that Indigo was here to taste them with her. She wasn’t mad that Segin was here with her, but she was missing Indigo while on this trip.

The air here was also peaceful, or no, it was eerie. It was much different than where they had just come from. Duchess almost considered the dungeon in the back of her mind but she shook it. She would though, step in closer to Segin as they continued forward, her shoulder wanting to reach his body as a subtle fear rushed over her. Her expression didn’t hide the worry and the unknown. Her eyes were ahead on the horizon, almost not wanting to know what was beyond it.

Once they left the comforting trees and the thick grapevines that choked them, they walked out into an open field that immediately he decided he didn't like. the stark contrast between the two places was unsettling and even the stillness of the air felt eerie and unwelcoming. While Duchess edged closer to him, he did the same, their shoulders brushing against each other as they looked for comfort in one another as they crossed the open plain. "Lets just hurry along and pass through here, eh?" he questioned with a flick of his ears. As they drew further into the field he started to notice the copious amounts of bones and skeletons of creatures of all sorts scattered all over the place and he swallowed hard as he passed by one that he was fairly certain was a wolf's skull.

Segin Epsilon

They neared the slight hill that was once the horizon, and as they took steps through the deserted land, the bones of multiple creatures started appearing and clustering until there was nearly nowhere to walk without stepping her paw onto a long deceased creature.

She stuck to Segin as he did the same, her paws careful as she gently padded through the clear patches of the ground, the soil nearly took representation of a desert. The peacefulness she felt wasn't an uplifting kind, and after she laid eyes on the dreary outlook, she had made her mind up just as Segin had spoke it. She hummed in agreement to him, she didn't want to look down at all the dead things but for whatever reason she felt safer that way. Watching her feet, hopefully they wouldn't come back to life and take her.

Her tiny weight pushed into the dry ground under her, causing just a small paw portion of it to cave in and crumble beneath her. She wasn't harmed, but instantly jumped backward into Segin from the surprise. Her head lowered as her eyes closed, like her fear of the place was coming true. The dead things would be after her. She went to hide her face into Segin's fur of his shoulder, though it would have been wise to keep moving so they didn't have to look back on this place.

They crossed the deserted, open plain carefully, both of them stepping over the remnants of the creatures that had died here, some clearly more recent and some much older. Some of the bones were dried and cracked and brittle, some other ones still had slight remnants of old flesh and fur hanging off of them. It was a gruesome land to be sure and portions of it were dry and barren, making him wonder if this was a plain or a desert.

He was looking away from Duchess when a piece of ground started to crumble away from her, not realizing what was happening until she jumped back into his side, causing them to stop as she leaned into him and hid in his fur. He blinked and huddled into her as well as if on instinct, quickly realizing what had happened as he looked down by where her feet once were.

Segin tucked his head over hers for a moment, gently nuzzling her ears with a small smile. ”It’s okay, it’s okay,” he told her gently, his voice soft and encouraging. ”Come on, lets keep moving and get out of here, alright? We’re almost to the other side.”

Segin comforted Duchess, not that she had thought anything of it. Segin was reacting in a way Indigo would have. Duchess was quite a flighty dame so many silly things could scare her. It may have seemed silly, but she couldn't help it. She wanted to be brave for Indigo and the band but it seemed she wasn't good enough, in the eyes of own that is.

Rubbing her face into Segin's shoulder, she pulled back as he mentioned just getting to the other side. Her body was still against his as she peeked around, and she had a quick idea. Something maybe they should have started with or avoided the land completely. "I have an idea, let's run." She took a few steps away from him, turning back to make sure he had the same idea before following through. She tried to keep her eyes off the bones around them when she looked at him, but she had to be more observant when they ran. Otherwise she may have tripped.

Segin smiled softly as Duchess nuzzled his shoulder, making sure she was okay as she looked away from him. He was still getting to know her so he was unaware of how startled she could be, but either way, he would comfort her as long as she needed. As soon as she suggested that they run the rest of the way to get out of the Boneyard as quickly as possible he nodded eagerly and replied, "Absolutely! You don't have to convince me!" Segin chuckled softly and took off running behind her, keeping his eyes on the ground to make sure he didn't get his dark paws caught on any of the scattered bones that covered the war marked ground in front of them. The sooner they put this place behind them the better! Auster was full of beautiful places with spectacular scenery, but this was definitely not one of them and he certainly wouldn't be coming back here any time soon.
