Dear Sister

Kitsune yawned and stretched into the early morning sun. She didn’t know what she wanted to do today. She had her lessons to attend to, and her healing to brush up on. She also needed to get in some fight practice at some point. But for now, she had the morning to herself. She got out of her bed and made her way down to the beach, trailing along the familiar sandy shore. She wanted to explore. There was so much of the world she wanted to see.
She wanted to find a job that could keep her a part of Ashen, but also allow her to scratch her itching feet. As she grew quickly older, she found herself pondering that more and more often. What did Kitsune want to do with her life? She kicked a stray stone, lost deep in her thoughts.

As always, Ikigai had risen before the sun. She was always careful to be quiet so as not to wake her siblings or her parents if they were still abed, which they rarely were. The pale child was industrious just like her father. She was always doing something. Always learning. Already this morning she had practiced her Kanji while she ate breakfast. After breakfast and her first lesson of the day, Iki always made her way to the beach for meditating. The girl was a little surprised to see her sister already there. She and Kitsune had been distant. Then again, none of them had the connection that Iki and Ike had.
Ink dipped paws brought the smaller child across the sand until she stood beside her sister. "Oneesama," Ikigai greeted in her smooth, mellifluous tones. Gracefully, the girl lowered her haunches so that she was seated in the sand, looking out to sea. Iki's long tail snaked around one hip before she cast one metallic eye to settle on her larger sibling momentarily. "What are your plans for today?" They didn't often spend time together, but that didn't mean that Iki was opposed to doing so.

Her eyes had drifted out across the ocean, finding herself wondering exactly how big the world was, when Iki appeared. She turned at the sound of her sister's sweet, melodic tones and grinned. Her tail already swaying lightly in pleasure behind her.
“Iki!” she said happily, turning her full attention towards the other girl. Her eyes falling upon the familiar falling-snow tones of the other girl. There was something so dainty about her, and the way she held herself. A gace Kit knew she could never replicate. “Well, I was going to get in some herb-lore, and practice my fighting stances, but other than that, i’m not sure. I was just thinking of all the adventures I would like to have one day” She explained, her voice a little wistful. She knew in her heart of hearts that she would never really stray too far from home. She would never leave her family, she loved them too much, and she wanted to be a part of the Empire. “What about you?”

Iki smiled at her fiery sister, the red rimmed corners of her almond shaped eyes lifting. Kit shared what she had been doing and thinking about and the obsidian horned girl nodded. "I'd like to see the world some day as well," she spoke, looking back out to the gently rolling waves of the oh so blue ocean. Ikigai knew that she would end up far from home, but that home would never be far from her. It was her destiny to be a game piece. To join the empire with another strong family, thus bolstering them all. It's what she was constantly preparing for.
Kit questioned Iki's plans for the day and the snowy girl gave a little, non-princess-like shrug. "I've already practiced my Kanji and had breakfast. I was thinking about practicing the shamisen for a while and maybe finding someone to tell me stories of other places." Dark ears swiveled forward as she gave her sister a pointed look. "Would you like to share some healing lessons? We could teach each other." Iki was hopeful. There weren't many healers that she knew of. At least, not many with the time to practice with her.

Kitsune wasn’t terribly surprised to hear her sister had been practising her script, and had breakfast. Reminding Kitsune that she had skipped her own. That happened a little too often in her one-track mind. She got carried away and forgot about things like that.
“I would love to hear you play, Iki, if you don’t mind.” She added as her sister spoke of practicing her music. Kitsune would also love to hear people tell them stories of other places. She wondered if Iki already had someone in mind.
“I would love to Iki! That would be amazing” She said with an easy grin. Happy for a chance to spend more time with Iki, and to get in some learning at the same time. “I’ve been collecting a few dried herbs, but my collection is still pretty small. Perhaps we could collect some more herbs, and mix up a poultice?” she suggested. “Or we could give each other checkups, to go over what we need to look for?”
