This Is Monumental

Come down, come down sweet reverence
The late morning sun beamed down through the trees as they arrived at the Monument Rapids. The grass, dirt and rocky ground gave way to a rushing river below. Light glimmered off the pale blue water, sending up sparkles of gold as the water careened its way over the rocks. She would have been tempted to cross but Álarr's companion had flown ahead and sure enough Abaven's lands extended down into the area of the rapids. If they crossed here they'd be trespassing. She sighed before looking at Álarr. "This is part of the reason I find packs so irritating. They find and hoard lands and make it difficult for others to experience what nature has to offer."

Álarr walked along at a leisurely pace. Up ahead he could hear the rushing sound of water and knew they were coming up to a set of rapids. He immediately had his reservations. Álarr was a strong wolf but he was not going to cross a set of rapids, not without a clear path across. They journeyed to a shallower area where you could see the rocks below. He sent his raven across but the bird came back with news that it was pack territory. Jynn vented her frustration.
"You could always barter to tour the territory if you so desired. Having a stable and familiar territory is useful for raising and feeding a family."

Jynn continued walking along the banks of the river, her nostrils flaring as she searched for a safe place to cross so they could continue their journey to the bay. She supposed Álarr did have a point, but bartering would take time and she had places to go and things to see. "Well, I have no intention of ever starting a family." She craned her head back, pausing for a second so she could be sure she wasn't about to step into the rapids. She had to speak up over the roar of the water. "Do you have any kids?" She hadn't ever thought to ask but he was old enough to possibly have pups.

Álarr blinked for a moment as Jynn looked back at him and asked if he had any kids. A look of horror crossed his face and he shook his head. "Ack, no… I mean.. well, yea, no." He'd honestly never thought about starting a family. It simply had never occurred to him but at the question his knee-jerk response was no. He couldn't see himself as a father. He couldn't even really see himself as someone's husband so he supposed that was something he had in common with Jynn. Though, he still had family. He had his father, his siblings, and in some ways his pack was like his family. He wanted to take care of them.

Jynn chuckled as Álarr sputtered out an answer. She turned back around and continued on her way until she finally came to a good place to cross. Jynn delicately picked out where she wanted to step before gingerly making her way across. The water beat at her ankles but she'd found a shallow place where the water was rushing over the rocks and there was enough moss and debris to give her some traction. Hopefully the man was light on his feet or this would be where they parted ways. She wasn't going to try and carry him across.

Álarr fell silent as he tried to shake off the woman's question. He felt flustered that the thought had never crossed his mind but did he really see a family in his future? Surely his father didn't expect him to have one unless he wanted it. In that way he was lucky. He didn't have the pressure to carry on the bloodline, at least not with a brother who was ruling Fireside as alpha. The came to a place to cross. Álarr held back as he watched Jynn cross before carefully moving across as well. He moved slowly, one step at a time as he worked to make sure he had his footing.
