Black and White and Red All Over

The day Manea had gone off to hunt on her own and left Alastor home with the kids, the violet fae had returned with a shocking amount of raw meat for them and their always hungry pups. Eyes wide, Alastor had asked his wife what she'd brought down to get that much food on her own, and when she'd described some sort of weird striped horse, then he began to wonder if Manea was truly starting to go insane too. Her outlandish description of the black and white horses had earned a scoff and laugh from the demon brute, and prompted Manea to offer to prove to him that she had hunted such a creature.
That was how Alastor found himself out on the prairie today with Manea at his side, stalking along through the dry grasses and along the slope of a hill. Just beyond, the braying of wild equines could be heard. It wasn't until the two wolves had crept to the top of the hill on their bellies to peer down below that he saw Manea had not been telling tall tales. Black eyes roved over the herd of oddly-marked horses, blinking rapidly a few times as if they might vanish right before his eyes. Well, shit; guess he owed her an apology. "What the hell are these things?" he asked in a low voice while studying their prey. A quick glance over to his wife at his side and a curious raise of his brow, then he asked, "So how did you want to kill the mutant horses today, my love?"

Manea found Alastor's disbelief at the description of the prey she had hunted absolutely hilarious and knew it would be even funnier to see the look on his face when he saw they were real. As soon as she was able to get him out onto the prairie to guide him to the herd of striped equines she did, waving a large paw toward them with a knowing grin as they creeped over the edge of a hill and looked down at the unsuspecting prey. She chuckled and gave a shrug when he questioned what they were, replying, "Not a clue, but they are pretty delicious." She certainly wouldn't mind bringing down another to take back with them. Now with five mouths to feed their hunting was serving more of a purpose than it once had when they were killing herds of animals simply for fun.
She hummed softly to his question of how they would go about their hunt, eyeing the herd curiously. She pointed out a small cluster of them toward the right of the herd that had wandered away slightly from the main group to reach some lusher patches of grass. "Those there, they would be easy to separate from the rest. They're pretty easy to keep down once they're knocked over, just got to keep an eye out for the legs." She turned her gaze back toward Alastor with a smirk, adding, "I'll run in and get them separated if you want to bring it down," knowing he would have absolutely no issue taking on that role.

Manea laid out a sound strategy for taking down one of the weird horse things , and better yet it involved Alastor bringing down the stripey beast! How could he ever say no to that? Uttering a low, sinister chuckle, the dark-furred brute turned to press a kiss to his mate's cheek. "Don't get kicked then,"he warned her in jest with a flirtatious wink. "See you in a minute, sexy." Still grinning, Alastor crept away and down the side of the hill, working his way through tall patches of dry grass and around smaller slopes until he had positioned himself in wait in a patch of tall golden grass, his dark form only barely visible if viewed from on high. Then Alastor waited, keeping empty black eyes on the nearby equines while he waited for Manea to begin their fun and start the hunt.

Manea grinned and chuckled as Alastor kissed her cheek, warning her to not be kicked. She was fairly certain that he was the one that needed to heed that warning, but she nodded all the same. She waited as he moved to go get into position, letting him get some distance from her before she began to move as well so that she wouldn't draw too much attention from the herd in their direction. She started creeping down the slope as well, moving from one patch of thick grass to another with deadly stealth. Once she was within range of the striped creatures she wanted just another moment longer to make sure Alastor had time to get into position before leaping out of the grasses with a snarling growl, making the horses immediately begin to run in a panic with yelping brays. She aimed for the small divide between the three zebras that had wandered away from the herd and the rest of them, snarling and snapping at their ankles to drive the prey away from their herd mates, forcing them in the opposite direction from the others and directly toward Alastor who laid in wait in the tall grasses they were now galloping toward.

The sound of ferocious snarling and snapping jaws nearby was quickly followed by frightened squeals and brays, and the the thundering of hooves. Alastor rolled his shoulders, his muscles tense and nerves primed to strike. He could hear the stampeding animals moving, no doubt fleeing the terrifying jaws of his wife, and as the mass of the sound got softer, a few pounding hooves got louder. Alastor's sharklike eyes stared just over the tops of the grass, waiting until he saw the form of a striped horse come right towards him. Once it was within range, Alastor shot like a missile up at the herbivore, fangs bared and a lethal snarl erupting from the massive brute.
The zebra didn't see the wolf until it was already lunging at him, whinnying in alarm, but the sound was cut short when Alastor wrapped his paws around the animal's neck and used his weight and gravity to pull the zebra down to the ground with a hard thud. Alastor wasted no time in getting his feet and climbing up the flailing animal, narrowly avoiding a wildly swinging hoof as he used his weight to keep the animal down like Manea told him to. With his jaws already so close, it only took one more lunge for Alastor to sink his deadly fangs through tender muscle and sinew in the equine's neck, feeling blood vessels and arteries pop as he crushed the animal's windpipe. The whinnying stopped abruptly, harsh choking noises coming from the zebra as the wolf held true, not releasing his hold despite the prey animal's struggles. The fighting slowed, the zebra bleeding out into Alastor's jaws as the thick red liquid poured from around his mouth like a waterfall, and only a minute later the zebra fell still.
Alastor gave the corpse one good shake for good measure, then let the body drop. He panted lightly, the metallic taste of blood on his tongue activating those primal receptors in his brain again while he stared down at their kill. He glanced up to Manea, blood staining his teeth and muzzle, and gave her a wide grin as obsidian eyes sparked with a wild electricity. It felt so damn good to be hunting with her again! "See?" he said, running a paw over his head. "Didn't get kicked! Easy!"

Manea herded the prey animals forward until she saw the massive, dark form of her husband leap from the grasses, startling the striped horses all over again and making them rear and start to dart off in another direction. One of them wasn't so lucky though, Alastor bringing the animal down quickly with a deadly efficiency. Oh how she loved seeing her mate in action, grinning as she watched him bring down their prey easily with his bulk and strength. She chased off the last two equines to keep them from trampling Alastor while his powerful jaws tore into the black and white striped creature until it finally fell still. The zebra herd abandoned its fallen friend and left them on a quiet prairie once the struggling was done. She chuckled at Alastor's bloodied grin, padding over to him to give his nose a teasing lick. "Well done, my love. Lets get this back to the children. I'm sure they'd love to see one of the striped horses for themselves - even if it is dead."
