I Blame You

Come down, come down sweet reverence
Well, that did not go according to plan. Thankfully, the storm proved to be a squall that swept through about as quickly as it formed. However, the winds and waves of water had pushed them farther southeast than they wanted to be and she wasn't entirely sure what to do now. At least the sun was shining and the birds were singing… a lot of birds were singing. Jynn sat up on the raft as they bobbed gently in the ocean water. They weren't at the shore but in a shallower area where the water seemed almost a pale jade green. The island nearby was heavily covered in green trees and white birds of all kinds flying here, nesting there, just chattering away. Sun light streamed gently down through the branches as the water lapped at golden sands.

They couldn't steer in the storm. The wind and rain had made it all but impossible and so the only thing to do was to hang onto the raft. Thankfully the storm passed quickly, leaving sunshine in its wake. He got warily to his feet, feeling more than a little sea sick. They were half way between the Obsidian Beach and the Dove Island archipelago. He could see Jynn looking longingly toward the island and he shook his head. "That's Ashen too, now c'mon, help me paddle toward the Obsidian Beach, we can land there and dry out." He settle don his belly on one side of the raft, letting his left limbs slip into the water while he crouched on his right.

Jynn sighed as she watched the birds before Alarr pulled her back to earth. Of course the island was claimed. She glanced back toward the beach which was now glistening in the sun. She just wanted to stretch out in those golden sands and dry out and have a good nap but she knew Álarr was right so she moved to the other side of the raft and copied Álarr's movement, seeking to time the strokes of her legs to match his. It took some doing as he was larger and stronger and so it was difficult to balance out. Soon though they started to make progress. Jynn glanced behind her, watching the island start to shrink. "Hey, Álarr, I think I see bridges there."

Álarr focused on the task at hand but soon found he had to lessen the power of his strokes so he didn't put them off course or start to rotate the raft. That was just as well, he could save his strength and if necessary he could get off and swim normally, pushing the raft along with his chest. Jynn mentioned something about bridges and Álarr nodded. "Yea, there's more than one island. They connect them with bridges. Makes it more livable that way." Though if he'd learned anything about Jynn it was that she probably wouldn't have cared if she lived in a place that required her to swim from island to island. Álarr would take a hard pass at that.

Jynn nodded thoughtfully as Álarr explained that the islands were connected with bridges. She supposed that made sense. There were a number of islands and while there probably wasn't much in the way of larger prey she bet they had a really nice bounty of fish. Ahh well, there were plenty of fish in the sea as she'd once heard. Jynn turned her attention from the islands behind them to the obsidian shore ahead. Digging her legs into the water she worked at paddling, put in an extra effort to keep up with Álarr's larger limbs and more powerful strokes.

After they were done with this journey Álarr intended to head back to Fireside and become a home body for a little while. Jynn was interesting and exuberant but he had yet to go on a trip with her where something didn't go wrong. She was going to get him killed at this rate. Well, at least they didn't have far to go. They'd head west for a bit then go south through the ravine and into Auster. At that point he would probably leave to let her continue south while he headed back. Auster was an interesting place but he didn't want to get to far from his pack in case he was needed. The weather was turning and even if it wasn't as evident in the south yet it would be soon enough.
