Cedar Planks and Bears

Come down, come down sweet reverence
Jynn was happy to enter more wooded terrain. Tall deciduous trees grew amongst the gray brown rocks and shrubs. The sunlight filtering through the leaves had a soft golden glow and up ahead she could hear the roar of the water fall. Cedar Falls was a short and wide waterfall of rushing silvery water. She padded closer and dipped her head to drink when a large silvery fish with tan fins leapt up the falls. It slipped back down, not quite able to make it and Jynn watched curiously for a moment. The fish leapt again and looked like it was about to make it when suddenly a grizzly appeared at the top of the falls and caught the fish in its jaws. Jynn's fur stood on end. The bear looked at her then turned and wandered back. She could barely make out the form of another bear up at the top of the falls as well. Jynn skittered back, seeking to get closer to Bowen. "Well, looks like we're not alone."

Eventually the terrain gave way to trees and Bowen was glad to move into the shade. The sun had been rather hot there for a while. She was thankful that she didn't have a darkly colored coat or she surely would have roasted alive. Now that there were trees though, the girl closed her eyes, taking a deep breath and enjoying the shift in temperature. The world here smelled rich and damp. Bowen quite liked it.
Jynn backing up towards her brought Bowen's green eyes flashing wide once more and she followed her companions gaze upwards to where a bear stood with a fish between its jaws. Further down, there was yet another bear. "We should be okay if we just give them a lot of space." She hoped there were no cubs and mothers around.

Jynn nodded as Bowen spoke. "Yea, I think you're right. They seem more interested in fish than us." Still, being in the prescence of large predators made her wary and she approached the base of the falls cautiously, especially as the roar of the water limited her usually sharp hearing. Crouching down she drank deeply of the water. She hadn't realized how thirsty she'd gotten until she had a taste of the cool, running water of the cedar river. Once she'd finished her drink, Jynn sat down heavily. "Oof, I needed that. This is a nice area though. I have to admit I'm fond of forests and the shade is a boon on hot summers."

Bowen was also on high alert as they moved along. The two bears that they saw weren't the only bears in the area. The girl's keen ears caught the low groans of bears coming from a few different directions. As Jynn drank, Bowen kept watch, then when Jynn was finished, Bowen drank. She had been rather thirsty as well and was glad to wet her parched throat. The water was cool and clean, though she couldn't help but think that she was drinking the same water that the bears upstream had just been standing in.
Ears swiveled to catch Jynn's words and Bo looked upwards to the overhanging branches. "It's definitely much nicer than the beating sun." Bo seated herself, giving her body a little break. Though the falls were loud, the sounds of singing birds broke through here and there.

Jynn kept watch as Bowen drank, she could hear sounds of movement up at the top of the falls and smell the blood of fish but she didn't catch another sight of the bears. While it seemed like the bears were content to leave the wolves alone, Jynn definitely wasn't going to take a nap with them around, but still it felt good to rest her feet. Jynn flopped down on her side underneath a large oak tree and nodded. "Yea, and I kind of like the smell of cedar. I'll definitely have to come back to this place some time. I've always been partial to forests." She was planning to pick one as a sort of home base for the summer.

Bo nodded to Jynn's words. She liked forests, but she would always prefer the scent of the salty sea. She would prefer the calls of seabirds over the sounds of songbirds. Sand beneath her paws instead of leaf litter and dirt. She couldn't say that she didn't appreciate this place, but it wouldn't have been her top pick for a place to live. Especially with all of the bears that seemed to be frequenting this place. She wondered if they were here all the time or if they were just here for the rush of fish.
A low growl sounded and it was a bit too close for comfort. Flicking her gaze to Jynn, Bowen motioned that they should go with a pull of her skull. The young fae was on her paws and began moving in the opposite direction of the growl.
