Bowen had been thoroughly spooked. She'd seen something that she couldn't explain and had gone back to the castle quickly to fetch Haiku, her hero, to help her figure it all out. As she let the massive, chocolate brute out to the edge of the Gods Garden, she gave her head a shake. "I honestly saw it. Right over there." The small fae motioned towards a bunch of bushes nearby, her green eyes wide.

The evening was already dark. It seemed as though darkness wasn't eager to leave the land as of late but it was definitely eager to take over quickly. "The rabbit was glowing, I swear!" Out walking, Bowen had caught sight of what she thought was a random rabbit. As she neared, she had caught a strange bluish glow around it. To make matters even stranger, the rabbit had stopped and appeared to be communing with some odd blue fireflies. Yes, blue. Thoroughly confused, Bowen snuck closer only to have the rabbit turn its head to look straight at her. There was no fear in its eyes. What had really frightened her though was the swarm of fireflies that seemed to slowly grow in number.

Standing beside Haiku, she motioned again. "There were tons of fireflies around it and I felt such... animosity coming from them all." It had been worth checking out and who better to do it than Haiku?

Haiku hadn’t ever seen Bowen so frightened, not even when he had saved her life from the wood chuck. He knew he should have gone out with her that morning, but even if he truly wanted to just carry her everywhere the rest of their days that was unfair to her. So he’d slept in just a little and he regretted it immediately. Thankfully Bowen faced no life threatening scare, but it was so unsettling she hadn’t even properly given him a description before he’d followed her where she had seen it.

The dire boy stayed close to his candy corned girl, worried over her, and never once acting as though he doubted a word that came out of her mouth. Not when she had that look in her eye. Haiku’s chocolate bar fur stood on end as their paws carried them into the gardens. Still at her side his sharp gaze wandered the landscape, worried over every shuffle of leaves or sound in the distance. There didn’t seem to be any sign of glowing bugs or rabbits now.

"Do you think we’ve done something wrong?” He asked softly. If the tension felt negative maybe they weren’t supposed to be here. Maybe the pack had made nature mad? He’d heard about his father visiting the dead, but he visited them, not the other way around. "What do you think it meant?”

There was no sign of the rabbit or the fireflies now, but there were other strange things. The various plants around the garden seemed to be covered in an iridescent sheen. It took her a moment, but Bowen soon realized that there was no sound here. No crickets or night birds. No rustling of leaves. Just absolute silence. The girl somehow moved closer to Haiku as she made the realization. "Why isn't there any noise, Haiku?" She never used his name unless the situation was a serious one and she found this situation to be quite serious.

Green eyes scanned the somewhat lifeless area around them and that was when Bowen noticed the mist. A trail of blue mist was snaking towards them like a ghost. The girl couldn't even find her voice, but she nudged her lover, forcing his attention towards the slow moving mist. Bowen's gaze was then pulled to the area behind the mist. Two blue dots glowed in the darkness there. The dots moved and soon a luminescent rabbit hopped into the light of the clearing. Bowen nudged Haiku a little harder, her eyes the size of saucers. All around the rabbit, those blue fireflies were appearing. Just a few at first, then slowly more and more and more appeared. Bowen gave a little squeak as she could feel the wave of displeasure pour off of the ghostly lapine. "We saw it. We know it's real. We should go!"

Bowen had no answer for him nor did she trail his line of thought, instead she noticed something that even he hadn’t really realized. He could feel the static in the air, a strange tension that was unnatural and he didn’t realize what it was until Bowen spoke again. Why was there no noise of the forest here? The nights were always filled with the sound of bus, frogs, and owls, but tonight there was nothing but silence over the land. Instinctively he leaned closer to Bowen, he had little power to protect her from the supernatural but he’d give his life for hers if he was asked. The sound of his real name on her lips made the boy keenly aware of her nervousness, not that he hadn’t already realized her terror.

The girl was silent, both of them searching the horizon as Bowen nudged him wordlessly. His blue and lavender gaze followed her attention outwards. Falling on the blueish mist. His own eyes widened slightly, he’d never seen anything like this before. Already he was stepping forward to put himself between the mist and the girl he loved. Then, just as she had seen earlier, the fireflies appeared as a prelude to the glowing lagomorph. His jaw nearly hit the floor. "We should,” He agreed with her quietly, but waited for her to retreat first so he could stay between them.

Haiku agreed to leave and Bowen didn't need to be told twice. She'd seen some unbelievable things in her time, but this was something else. Perhaps if the rabbit had seemed peaceful, the situation would have been different. As it was, she could feel the hatred pouring off of the small, luminescent creature. Haiku had asked if they'd done something wrong and the girl really wasn't sure, but it definitely felt that way.

With Haiku keeping himself between her and the rabbit, Bowen made sure that she was always touching him, whether it was with her hip or her tail. She needed to make sure that Haiku was with her as they retreated back to the castle. Thankfully, the rabbit and its shimmering firefly friends didn't seem to follow them past the edge of the garden. Why, Bowen didn't know, but she wasn't complaining.

Bowen didn’t say anymore nor did she put up any protest in making a return to the castle. Of course she had been the one to suggest in the first place. Haiku was only supposed to play witness, there was no explaining what the two of them witnessed tonight. The young boy had seen the apparition too, he was staring right at the ethereal glowing creature. He still didn’t know what to make of it but they both knew they weren’t crazy. The unexplained phenomenon was more than just a glowing rabbit and blue fireflies, it had an aura about it. One that was far too hostile for his liking. Haiku’s priority was to protect Bowen, and the best way to do that was getting them both out of there. She stayed close to him, touching him as he guided her back the way they came and back towards the castle.

BOWEN

A stealthy rabbit tries to sneak past, a small bundle of brightly colored flowers in it’s jaws. Whenever it hops, an odd sprinkling of blue dust breaks off from the flower petals. You also find 3 crystals. Maybe these are worth keeping…
