You Must Let Go Of The Illusion Of Control

Come down, come down sweet reverence
Jynn was extremely thirsty, so much so that for a moment she wondered if she was seeing things. In the middle of the golden sand dunes was a sparkling aquamarine lake. Short grasses grew just along its rim and here and there were a few palm trees. Oh please, please let it be real. Jynn edged her way to the end of the lake and dipped a paw in. Water! It was warm but it was water! She dunked her muzzle in and started to drink rapidly. Oh thank goodness. After she'd had her fill of the water she sat down heavily in the shadow of the nearest palm tree, seeking to rest up a bit before the next leg of the journey.

Álarr was panting heavily by the time they reached the oasis. The noon sun was beating down on them and he could feel his skin starting to ache and burn. More than likely he was now sporting a sunburn. Great, just great. Next time Jynn asked him to come on an adventure with her he was going to pitch her into the sun himself. Álarr did let some of his tension loose in a sigh of relief as the water of the oasis turned out to be real and not one of several mirages they'd seen earlier. He settled down on his belly and proceeded to drink as much as he possibly could. Goodness knew when they'd find another source of water.

Jynn took a moment to catch her breath before addressing her companion. "Well, I think here is as good a place as any to rest for a bit. It looks like the terrain gets rockier farther east. Maybe we'll find some vegetation on the other side of those mountains." If there was one thing she could say about the desert it was that this climate was giving her a greater appreciation for rain. She'd probably never be able to say anything bad about a rainy day again. Jynn stretched out her front legs and rested her head upon them. She was still a bit too keyed up to sleep but she could at least give her body a much needed rest.

Álarr flopped down in the shade of the nearest palm tree to Jynn. He made sure to pull in his legs to avoid them getting sunburnt as well. He was very tempted to nap but was afraid that resting now might throw him off and he would awake feeling worse than he was right now. At the mention of mountains Álarr looked to the east and frowned. Oh good, just what he wanted to do in the heat, climb a bunch of mountains and pray there was something of worth on the other side. At least they'd managed to find this pool of water before now or they'd have really been in trouble. Álarr shifted his pack and pulled out his waterskin to refill it.

Jynn let her voice fall silent, taking the extra time to rest. She did watch with curiosity as Alarr refilled his water skin. She'd been eyeing it as it hung off the pack he bore. She figured it was for healing items and she made note to find herself a pack like that. Something a bit smaller though. She'd want to travel light but she could see the advantage of having water on hand, especially in a place like this. After awhile of resting Jynn got to her feet and beckoned her companion to follow suit. "Ok, you good? I think we should keep moving, I'd like to get to some sort of shelter area before night fall."

With the water skin refilled, Alarr's primary concern was assuaged as well. He then dug a small jar of sunburn ointment out of his pack and began to apply it on his ears and the top of his head where he could feel the worst burns beginning to blossom. With his first aid taken care of he had a few moments to rest before Jynn was up and ready to go. Álarr stretched and sighed. He'd have liked to rest longer but he couldn't argue with the wisdom in leaving now and finding shelter. Considering how warm the desert still was he had half a mind to suggest they travel at night but ideally they'd get past that mountainous region and into a forest or grassland before night fell completely.
