Aw Shit, Here We Go Again

The cold nights of wintry Boreas didn't bother Alastor in the slightest. Coming from a lifetime of living in mountainous caves and the frigid north of the continent, his thick coat was used to buffering him from the seasonal chill. The absurdly large full moon that hung over the nighttime sky didn't disturb him either. He was a fan of the night; it was his domain, walking as living shadow in the darkness of the world. The silvery light was far more welcome to him than the brutal burn of the sun. He didn't even mind the stillness and silence. It allowed him peace where he could drown out the demons in his head and simply exist without feeling the feral urges within him clawing to the surface when he was near a pretty lady or a particularly tasty looking morsel.
What Alastor did mind was the ludicrous amount of fireflies floating lazily about in the arctic air. Obsidian eyes watched the blue and purple lights hover and dart around in the air like they owned the skies, covering the snowy fields around the stone ruins in a sea of cool-toned lights. The corners of his lips curled in a silent snarl. Vivid flashbacks of a nightmare world he'd encountered over a year ago played back in the theater of his mind. The swarm of fireflies around a lake, the caves that had left him battered and bearing the distinctive scar over his left eye, that bizarre creature in a cloak that had tormented and mocked him. God, Alastor fucking hated fireflies now... They spelled a bad omen, and he didn't like their presence one bit.
Gazing around at the bugs, he cocked a little bit of a smirk. Was that creature listening to him through them right now? Was he being paranoid even suspecting such a thing? Perhaps... But it wasn't outrageous to consider with what had happened in his last encounter with the bug man. "You can hear me, can't you?" he spoke to the Master Firefly through his little floating messengers, a grin spreading across his face. "I've never forgotten you, y'know. But I do want to thank you. Your 'curse' saved the life of my son. His light glows bright and proud, and this is your doing. One day, when he rules this world, I hope you see the splendor he becomes." A soft chuckle rumbled deep in his throat as he thought of his two precious children asleep in their den, their fur no doubt glowing iridescent in the dark as it always did. A gift given to them by a strange elder god. How fitting for the Blood Moon Prince and Princess.

A smile lingered on her lips as she looked at the two curled up twins that were fast asleep in the mounds of soft furs that they had accumulated to fill this den they had been calling home for several weeks now. She had set her sights on the island that stood just off of the shore of this place though and she had decided that once she had a chance to spread word to Poe, Ara, and perhaps Imperia she would be making that their permanent residence. Once the time was right she would make that the birthplace of her pack and where her children would be raised. For now they could begin getting settled and make it the touch point where all the Mendacium wolves could gather while she worked on making them a more formal structure and home. These two little stars, her little fragments of the universe that gave off such a stunning glow in the darkness of the den, they would watch power be brought up around them and when the time came she would give them this empire she was building for them.
She faintly heard a familiar, deep voice outside of the den and her ear flicked back toward the sound before she turned her head to look out into the night. It had grown darker as she worked on getting their little ones to sleep and now that night had settled in around them and now as she looked outside she could see the dance and glow of fireflies in the night, but they weren't the golden hue she typically expected to see. They glowed an unusual blue hue and her curiosity got the best of her as she went out to investigate. Her mate's scent was easy to follow and eventually she found him a short distance away, catching just the very tail end of his monologue to no one. "Who are you speaking to, darling?" she questioned as she slid up beside him, wondering if perhaps he had finally lost what little sanity he had left.

The crunch of paws on snow behind him caught Alastor's attention and the black-furred brute turned to catch the purple of his mate coming up alongside him. He greeted her with a loving smile, then she asked him who he was speaking to. "To the fireflies," he answered honestly, looking back to the unusually colored insects. "I wanted them to know that there are more beautiful glowing creatures in the world than them now." His thinly veiled reference to their own children couldn't be mistaken, and the dire brute grinned proudly to himself. He and Manea had created the most perfect creatures to ever walk the planet together and he couldn't have been happier. His family—his own family—made all the suffering and pain he'd endured in his maddened life worth it.
Obsidian eyes turned away from the floating bugs to his beautiful wife, meeting her aqua gaze and studying how the massive full moon reflected within them. Smiling, Alastor brought his muzzle to hers to boop her nose with his own, then tilted his muzzle to catch her lips with his own in a quick kiss. "You look especially beautiful in this moonlight, my darling," he said with a grin of barely contained desire. Taking his eyes off of Manea felt like a crime, but he did so to turn his attention up to the moon. "Have you ever seen the moon so large before?" In all his years, Alastor couldn't recall a time he'd ever seen the moon so large. Or blue and purple fireflies for that matter either. "And aren't these little fellas just stunning?" He raised a paw towards one of the blue fireflies, watching it disappear again when its light shut off.

Manea raised a brow and smirked as Alastor told her how he had been speaking to the fireflies, telling them how there was more beautiful glowing creatures in the world now - not so subtly mentioning their stunning children and the glowing markings they were blessed with. She chuckled and gave a little shake of her head, turning her gaze away from him as she looked around at the fireflies that floated around through the space surrounding them. She most certainly agreed that nothing could be as beautiful as the children they created, though she wouldn't have thought to declare that out loud to a bunch of insects. Funnily enough it probably wasn't the most insane moment she had ever experienced from her husband, but it was certainly up there on the list.
She felt his obsidian gaze on her and she shifted her gaze to meet his again with a curious glance. A matching smile pulled across her lips and she chuckled as his nose tapped hers before his lips caught hers in a kiss, making her murr softly and grin. He was always enticing, but with their time alone so limited it did seem like she was even more easily ravenous for him whenever they did get a moment to themselves. Even just a little bit of affection had her mind wandering to more salacious things. And you look especially handsome, my mate," she said in reply, chuckling as she gave him another quick kiss in return.
Manea turned her aqua gaze back up toward the large moon above them as he mentioned it, a little smile lingering on her lips as she looked up toward the night sky and then looked back down toward the fireflies while Alastor pointed out, watching them blink in and out of existence with their blue and purple hues. They reminded her of the colors their daughter carried with the mixes of rich blues and indigos. But none of it was as interesting to her as the man at her side. She leaned into him, nuzzling into the side of his neck. "Whatever fate brought us together that day and set the wheels in motion for us to be standing here now with our perfect twins sleeping in the den... I'll forever be grateful for getting to live this life with you," she said softly in a rare moment of tenderness, tipping her muzzle up to his red marked ear to give it a playful kiss.

Manea's compliment to him and her returned kiss made the dire brute murr with delight. He was a sadistic and twisted bastard, of that there could be no denying, but in these quiet moments of peace, with only the wolf he loved with all that remained of his heart and soul, Alastor felt content. No demons clawed at the insides of his mind, no beast threatened to break out of its cage, no violent urges pulled at him like marionette strings. Alastor was simply existing in his life with his family, with his mate. He was such a radically different wolf than he had been a year ago. Manea had changed him for the better, given him life, purpose, a family, and love, all without altering who he fundamentally was. That was why he loved his violet queen seated at his side, both wolves gazing up at the enormous moon and letting its light bathe over them.
Alastor gave a rumbling murr when Manea nuzzled into his cheek, taking her warm affection as easily as she gave it. Red-tipped ears perked when she began to speak, thanking the threads of fate for bringing them together to give them this magnificent life. A wide smile spread across Alastor's face, free of any madness or malice. It wasn't often that Manea was so tender and vulnerable with him, but he cherished every moment when she gave them. "You already know the hell I lived in before I met you. Every moment I've shared with you and our beautiful children is a treasure I am fortunate to have. Whatever force brought us together, be it deity or fate or happenstance, I owe it my life, as I owe it to you as well." He spoke in his low, husky voice, a subtle growl rolling with each word as he allowed himself a tender and vulnerable moment with his wife in turn.
Turning his head, he slowly nuzzled his snout along the side of Manea's, brushing up over her forehead to place a kiss on her crown. Just as she was, Alastor was feeling a little frisky himself tonight as well. Maybe it was because it had been a little while since their time alone on the island, or maybe because he felt a little thrill of power for showing that firefly creature how he had used his curse to his own advantage. Maybe it was as simple as being in this romantic atmosphere with his drop dead sexy mate and they once more had some time to themselves. Alastor gave another low, lustful rumble in his chest as he brought his muzzle to catch one of Manea's delicate amethyst ears between his teeth, releasing it only to whisper to her, "The twins are asleep, Irilyth is in for the night... It's just us, my queen." No doubt Manea would understand the implication of his words without him needing to remove the subtlety. Why not make the most of their alone time in such a romantic venue?

The passionate growl to her mate's tender words rolled desire through her like a wave, making her press her side more firmly to his as a smile pulled across her lips. She had never thought that she needed a mate to live or thrive. She had only searched for her soul mate so eagerly out of the need to have her children and fulfill the destiny she had known was laid out for her somewhere out there in the world. She had wanted her soul mate and the family they would create, but it wasn't until she found Alastor and began to live her life with them that she realized just how much she needed him in her life. They meshed together so easily and seamlessly that she didn't know how she ever lived without him. He was exactly who she needed him to brought out the best in her. Her tail brushed along the back of his thigh as he spoke, enjoying the fact that this exquisite man standing with her was hers just as she was his.
She ginned as his muzzle brushed along the side of her own, closing her eyes for a moment as he pressed a kiss on her crown between the spiked ridges of bone, looking back up at him with heavy lidded bedroom eyes and a smirk. The cool blue of the bright, wide moon above them played on his ebony pelt beautifully, giving every strand of fur a slight hue of shimmering blue. He was already a stunningly handsome wolf, but in this lighting he had the same sort of oil slick sheen as a raven. She murred at the growl that rumbled in his chest and the feeling of his teeth dragging across her ear, sending a little shiver down her spine. He enticed her like no one and nothing else and now was no exception. A sly grin pulled across her lips at his not so subtle suggesting of what they could do to take advantage of this beautiful setting they had found themselves in since the rest of their family was sound asleep.
"You don't have to convince me, my king," she said with a seductive pull to her words, tipping her head so she could place kisses along his jaw and throat while her tail brushed his thigh again. She nudged his shoulder, getting him to the ground and rolling him onto his back, admiring everything that he was with a salacious grin on her lips. As she climbed over him and settled her lithe body over his the blue and purple fireflies danced around them, flickering in a mesmerizing light show, but she paid them no mind. Her aqua gaze was completely fixed on her mate wile her paws and claws trailed down his shoulders and chest, savoring and enjoying every single part of this wolf she claimed for herself. She joined them together with a press of her hips back into his and she thanked him in the only way she knew how for giving her everything she hadn't known she had been missing and for giving her the love she had always craved.
