Fidelias wasn't sure why he'd trailed along behind Ardyn and other Valhalla yearlings when they went frisking off to a party, but he'd found his big paws following in theirs hesitantly, always out of eyesight, until he'd finally come into sight of the party and froze. If he hadn't seen Kaija there he might have turned tail and fled. Then he'd seen Arne too, and he couldn't turn and leave. Both of his siblings had gone off into the world and left him behind, and he couldn't pass up a chance to see them both again.

And of course, once there he'd learned that there was going to be contests. Spars, races. He hesitated, but finally made himself tentatively volunteer for both. He wasn't really built for racing, nor did he have the skillset for it, but it was something that would be useful to work on, for hunting, so he'd offered.

Now, standing uncomfortably in the center of attention with his gaze down and slightly to the side, the stocky young male waited for his opponent to step up as well.

Takeshi was not a socialite, that much was more than abundantly clear in any given circumstance. He was awkward as best, especially given his muteness, and being around those other than his family who didn’t understand him and the meaning behind his expressions and mannerisms felt like he was pulling his own teeth out. But, his brother had basically dragged him to attend, talking about all the new wolves to meet and the pretty faces to see, all of which he was wholly uninterested in. But Kuroki always had a way of twisting his arm into going with what he wanted, so there he was.

When they’d arrived, the Ashen Dragon had been whisked away to join a spar. He’d cast a panicked look back at his brother, who’d given him a cheeky grin as he’d gone off to his own spar, then he was left alone with the boy in front of him. He was older than him but they were roughly the same height, leading him to believe that in a few months Takeshi would overtake him, but only by a few inches. He hosted a bobbed tail much like his uncle’s and their builds were quite similar, but that was where the similarities ended. Thankfully, the other boy didn’t seem to be much for conversation either. The two squared off in front of each other, and Take took it as the time to begin the first move.

He sprung forward, racing toward his opponent with his head down, aiming to ram straight into him and force him to the ground with his bulk and horns.

Fidelias let his breath out slowly, forcing himself to relax into the familiar fighting stance. The boy who came to face him was younger, nearly evenly matched to Fidelias' adult size though no doubt he'd grow slightly taller yet. He sported a pair of horns, scaley growths, and a glow that might have been odd to someone not used to Aurielle and Ardyn. The time had past for allowing his natural reserve to hold him back; Fili swung his head up to face his opponent, expression hardening in determination, right before the younger boy charged. With his size and weight Fidelias would normally have chosen to hold his ground against a futile charge, but the unusual nature of the other boy's horns made him wary, and Fili stepped aside instead before contact could be made. He pivoted to face towards his opponent, settling into a half-crouch as he set his feet solidly into the ground, and slammed his weight upwards into the side of the other boy's shoulder, seeking to shove him over sideways. As he did he was slashing with his fangs, aiming for the boy's lower ribcage not to grab but to cut. While he would normally have taken the greatest care not to cause undue harm to someone, with his mind hyperfocused on the joy of battle it never even occurred to him that he would be hurting a child.

The Valhalla boy side-stepped his forward assault and Take couldn’t say he was surprised. His attack worked once in a while and was effective when it did, but it wasn’t all that common. It was very obvious and straightforward, but it did encompass his personality type well. He was straight forward in most situations unless it called for a bit of deception, but he mostly dealt with his family so it was rare that he felt the need to do anything other than be direct. Fidelias slammed his weight into his shoulder, earning a grunt from the boy as he began to stumble to the side. His glowing red gaze turned down to keep his foe in his sights and watched as he lashed out at him, brows raising in alarm as he noted the other actually meant to draw blood. He’d never been in a fight where there had been the outright intent to do his serious bodily harm and he felt his heart begin to race. He instinctively allowed himself to fall over into a roll, leaving the boy’s fangs to scrape against the hard, defensive scales on his stomach. He was glad that the other didn’t have saber teeth like others in his family, or he’d be dealing with a nasty cut.

Takeshi was quick to roll to his paws, gaze narrowing and his tail pulled up to curl over his back. His chin pulled defensively to cover his throat as he looked at the other with a newfound wariness. He would have to be much more careful now that he knew his opponent intended to draw true blood. If his opponent intended to throw his weight around, Take could too. The boy rushed forward again, head upright this time as he kept the other in his line of sight. He intended to slam into him and meet him, chest to chest like two walruses fighting. Inevitably they would rise up and his neck would stretch out, intending to find purchase in the other’s scruff to attempt to pull him down in a pin.

This time as the other boy rushed forward it wss with his eyes up watching Fili, no doubt so he could swerve to follow if Fidelias mpved out of the way. So Fidelias didn't bother. Instead he spread his legs wide and partly crouched to lower himself below the level of the other boy's chest and braced himself. He tucked his head down at the last, creating a rounded, low surface from his neck over his shoulders and back for the boy to stumble over rather than letting himself be forced onto his hindquarters. As he did, he snapped forward with his jaws, aiming to catch at Takeshi's right hind leg.
