It had been several days since her moment of weakness that lead her to Chimera's bed and since then she had been doing everything she could to keep herself busy, fighting through the uneasy stomach and cramping that she assumed was a side effect of the contraceptives that Aliana gave her. It was a section of healing and herbs that she wasn't entirely familiar with so she didn't know what kind of side effects to expect, but these seemed like reasonable ones. She wasn't sure how she would feel about seeing Chimera again in the light of day after how she had acted that night so she had made herself scarce around the island, often going to the mainland to make herself useful with looking for helpful supplies and food. There was more and more mouths to feed and there would be even more if Aliana was actually pregnant like she assumed she was so it never hurt to spend some more time gathering and hunting.

The day had gotten away from her a bit - that or the nights were just starting earlier and earlier which seemed to be the case from what she could tell. She started making her way back toward the island as the sun started to set and by the time she got close to the shore from where she had been in a different part of Auster it was extremely dark out. Some of the fireflies she had gotten used to seeing over the nights that followed the night she had spoken to Aliana in the gardens came out, catching her eye as she walked. She was carrying a bag full of various herbs and berries she had gathered throughout the day so she didn't have to carry anything too heavy, but she still had to pause every once in a while to rest on her way back, the cramps and fatigue wearing on her after a day of exploring and gathering.

The bridge to the island was in sight, but before she reached it a cluster of fireflies drew her attention and she glanced off for a moment and when she looked back there was several beavers between her and her destination. She stopped, watching them while she blinked to make sure her vision wasn't playing tricks on her. The beavers had blue glowing eyes and their flat, leathery tails and fur had an iridescent, strange glow to them as well. When she took a couple of steps to one side to try and go around them, they all turned to look at her and shuffled to remain in her way, making her ears flick uneasily.

"Dalila"

Aliana... was pregnant. She had told him so only recently. Filled with such self-loathing, he could barely look at the woman and so, he found himself on the mainland, scouring the second territory that he had claimed. Anything to avoid the woman for a while. He'd given her the option of ending the pregnancy, but she'd chosen to keep it. Every time that he looked at those children or at the shredded collar around her neck, he would remember what he had done.

Darkness came early as it had begun to do as of late and so the world was all but black when he made his way back to the bridge. A flickering from the corner of the brutes seeing eye caught his attention and his neck curled, looking in that direction. Across the distance, he first noticed the luminescent line of beavers. It was odd for beavers to be out this late but was odder still that they were glowing. It made Chimera uneasy, just like it had when the crabs and seals had been glowing. What in the hell was happening around here?

After his gaze scanned the line of beavers, he noticed Dalila standing on the other side. Before, he may have very well left the woman to her own devices, but she had come to him of her own free will. Whatever animosity that he had felt for her prior was gone. The brute watched as she moved, his gaze narrowing as the beavers moved as well, blocking off her path. No. No that wouldn't do.

The brute adjusted his course, coming up behind the first glowing beaver. With the strange creature so distracted, it didn't even react when Chimera stepped on its wide tail and bit into the back of its neck. Within seconds, it was dead and the glow was gone. The other beavers didn't move despite the death of their brethren. Like a fire blazing up, a wash of blue fireflies filled the area, illuminating the space as though the held the light of day within them. Chimera motioned with one paw for Dalila to come to him. They needed to get out of here.

Dalila stood in a face off with the cluster of beavers that blocked her path to the bridge that would take her across to the island, eyeing them uncertainly. She didn't know how much damage a beaver could really do, but considering they could bite their way through a tree she felt like the chances were pretty high that they could do some pretty bad damage if they put their minds to it. If she was feeling better than she currently was perhaps she'd feel more confident about going up against them or even just running past them to get to the bridge, but her legs were already slightly trembling from the walking she had done that day and the current fatigued state of her body. This was a terrible time for her to be in any kind of trouble on her own and she was half tempted to just go find somewhere to hole up for the night since these glowing strangeness only seemed to happen at night and she could probably get back onto the island in the morning.

However, just as that thought crossed her mind, she glanced past the line of beavers and saw the distinctive form of Chimera creeping up behind them. She watched as he pinned one of them by its tail and swiftly killed it with a bite to its neck, the glow it previously held quickly dissipating as it fell dead to the ground. Shockingly the other beavers didn't seem to care or notice and still had their glowing eyes fixed on her. The world around them seemed to suddenly get brighter as a swarm of fireflies filled the air around them, making her look around with worried eyes. She looked to Chimera again as he waved her over with his paw and she gave him a little nod, eyeing the beavers warily as she started to try to move around them to get to where the King was standing.

The beavers shifted and shuffled as she moved to remain facing her, making a creeped out chill run through her. She hated the cold stare they had as they watched her walk around them while giving them a wide gap. When she passed by the one closest to her as she passed by the end of the line the beaver suddenly moved out of line and lunged toward her with a snap of its long, yellowed teeth and she gasped jumping out of the way and causing herself to stumble as her legs failed to keep her upright and she ended up falling into Chimera in the process. Luckily the beaver didn't pursue her other than that quick snap, but it did send a rush of adrenaline hit her system and made her heart pound, making her head spin as she leaned into Chimera's side for a moment to right herself.

"Dalila"

Dalila caught his gaze and began skirting past the beavers just as Chimera began moving towards her. One of them lashed out at her, its teeth snapping air and Chimera swatted at it like some big cat, his paw connecting with the beavers head and sending it flying. The woman collapsed against him and the giant used his big frame to shield her from both the vermin and the wave of fireflies. With his body and motions, he pushed her back towards the raft, not stopping until his hind paws touched water.

The fireflies glowed brighter, swirling about like a swarm of angry bees, but it didn't seem as though the lights could harm them. In fact, when they made contact with either wolf, the lights disappeared. The fireflies were no thread, but the beavers had teeth. The second beaver and the one that he had clocked were up and moving towards them. Chi took his gaze off of them for a moment to step up onto the raft with Dalila. He began pulling the rope that would take them back across. Much like the creatures from the beach, the beavers stopped at the waters edge and watched them, their lifeless eyes burning brightly.

When they were out a little ways, Chi turned to inspect Dalila, making sure that she wasn't injured. "Are you alright?" The raft shifted gently in the calm water. He felt safe here, knowing that the creatures hadn't been able to pass the water last time.

She leaned into Chimera long enough the shake her head to clear it, panting lightly as her head swam and she tried to pull herself together. She hoped that these side effects passed quickly because she couldn't keep on like this and laying around doing nothing didn't suit her either. At Chimera's insistence and nudging she started moving toward the raft they'd use to get back across the stretch of water, slightly unsteady on her paws at first, but once she started putting one paw in front of the other she was able to sort herself out well enough to escape the beavers and climb onto the raft, looking back at Chimera to make sure he made it onto the raft as well. She didn't imagine that a couple of beavers would really be that dangerous to someone like Chimera, but she didn't want him to get hurt defending her either.

Once they were on the raft and were floating with a barrier of water between them and the glowing creatures on the shore it became clear that they couldn't follow them out here and she was able to relax a bit. She sank back onto her haunches with a shaky sigh, sliding the bag she was carrying off of her back and setting it down beside her on the raft. She could still see the glow of the beavers and the fireflies on the shore as they put more and more distance between themselves and them, the blue lights growing small in the distance. Her ears perked at Chimera's voice and she turned her pale blue gaze toward him.

She didn't know why she was surprised to hear him ask if she was alright, but she was. After the animosity that sat between them for so long it was a change that her mind hadn't quite grasped yet. It reminded her of the care he had taken when he came to her aid after Viper attacked her, but that felt so long ago now. "Yes... I'm okay," she told him with a small nod. "Just tired and lightheaded," she assured him, unsure if she should bring up the medications she took or not. It was territory she was still trying to decide how she felt about and without knowing if the contraceptives had worked or not she didn't even have a firm answer on the subject. "Thank you," she added after a moment, knowing very well that at one point in their relationship he wouldn't have gone out of his way for her like that and she did genuinely appreciate his help.

"Dalila"

Looking back towards the bank, he could see the creatures still staring, but gradually the fade dulled and was no more. He wondered if the beavers had died and shriveled up like the crabs and seals had done, but wasn't able to tell from this distance. He could still see the shimmering wall of fireflies as they tried to figure out how to cross the water, however.

Dalila assured him that she was okay, but he didn't really believe her. There was a look on the woman's face that let him know she was lying. "When we get back, have Aliana or Siren take a look at you." His voice was soft, but it left no room for discussion. If she was ill, then she needed to be tended to. Being lightheaded wasn't natural and showing such weakness in front of him was even less natural than the blue beavers had been.

Taking up the rope, Chimera moved the raft back to the island. Dalila thanked him for his help and the brute just nodded. Of course he would help her. Now that the air had been somewhat cleared between them, Chimera would go out of his way to make sure that the woman was okay. Back on the island, Chi hurried Dalila off to see a healer. He would be sure to check on her after.
