Going Home Anyway
Luta

Serenity had been on edge since the strange appearances of the floating firefly-type things and the creepy change of the prey she had seen from her perch on the castle walls. The change seemed really subtle at first, but she would never forget the first time she looked down at the passing prey and saw them staring back up at her. She shuddered at the thought as she walked the beach back to the castle after scouting. She had been running a little late and the sun started to set giving the shimmering shores an extra glow but with that eerie hint of purple from the moon. The firefly type creatures began to appear, and it made her start to pick up the pace. The last place she wanted to be was outside the castle walls with a bunch of possessed animals. Even the fireflies didn't look quite right.

I wanted to seek, but I got distracted
Lúta awoke from a old dream that had entangled with an old memory to make a vivid experience that left her heart pounding in her chest and sweat dripping from her brow. Spirits, she thought she'd put most of her past behind her. Swallowing sharply she got to her feet and stepped out in the humid summer air. Lúta knew she wasn't going to be able to fall asleep so she worked her way north but nothing about the night walk was settling this time. In some ways she felt like she was walking on the cusp of a nightmare.
She continued to walk until she found herself along the shimmering shore which didn't seem to shimmer so much as glow incredibly brightly. Everything about the night seemed to either be glowing or swallowed up in darkness. She frizzed up as she saw something headed towards her but as it got closer she realized it was Serenity. Lúta barked out a greeting. "Serenity, are you ok?"

Serenity jumped a little as the voice came out, not recognizing that she had company nearby. She was too worried about getting back to the castle. "Oh, Luta, you scared me." She chuckled nervously but only from the embarrassment of being scared. It was nothing major though. Her paws had halted to be there with her packmate instead of running off into the distance. "I'm fine, I'm just trying to get back to the castle as quickly as possible." She glanced around a moment before looking back to Luta, "The animals under the moon don't seem so friendly." She didn't know if Luta had experienced much of what she had, though she didn't really experience as much as she observed.

Lúta smiled gently. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you but I understand. It's pretty spooky out here." The strange ambience of the night certainly made her feel more on edge than usual. Normally her night walks were relaxing and set her mind at ease so she could more easily get back to sleep or else at least start her day with a clearer head. This particular walk was doing nothing to relax her. Serenity explained she was trying to get back to the castle, that the animals under the moon seemed particularly unfriendly. Lúta glanced about then turned to head southward. "I haven't run into any animals yet but there's something about this night that is not right. I'll go with you, let's head home."

Serenity smiled with a small nod as Luta offered to join her on the rest of the trek home. Not only did it feel better to have company, but it also felt nice to have another safe pack member. Serenity wasn't sure if the animals would hurt them, but their piercing glares were enough to stay away.
She started to move forward and quickened her pace to make sure her and Luta were keeping up with each other. She supposed they would be safe behind the castle walls, but how true could that be? What if the moon started possessing them? Or what if something drastic was around the corner? There was no way of knowing and no way of being prepared. She ran alongside Luta until they were safely behind the walls.

Lúta started south, trotting along at a quick pace and trying not to listen to closely to the sound of the waves rolling in to the shore. Normally it was a calming sound but tonight it sounded threatening. She could almost see the glowing tendrils of the water reaching out towards them. She moved faster, shifting herself farther in land to put more distance between herself and the water. Eventually she broke out into a run. All Lúta wanted to do at this point was just get back to the safety of the castle. She wasn't sure why the atmosphere unnerved her so. Surely she'd seen worse in her time as a young soldier in her homeland.
