The cool breeze that twisted through the draping willows brushed through the thick, ivory pelt of the fea that padded between them. Alena paused, closing her eyes as she savored the feeling. Living up in the north had made the assassin unaccustomed to the southern part of Alacritis, especially not in the summer months. She had decided to pass through the west for a little sightseeing on her way back to the Amenti territory after going to pay a visit to Bane in the south. It was a long journey, especially now that she was beginning to waddle ever so slightly thanks to her growing stomach. She knew that once her pups were born there would be little to no traveling for quite a while so she wanted to get her fill of it before she was confined to a den.

The willow leaves brushed against her body, their cool touch soothing along with the with gentle breeze. Her violet eyes opened and the moved forward once more, a content smile on her muzzle. She had been feeling more at peace with her life lately, more easygoing than normal. She wasn't sure if her future pups had anything to do with it or not, but she was just enjoying the sense of calm that had washed over her. She had been angry and confused when she first found out about her new future, but she had resigned herself to her fate. There was no changing it now so she might as well accept it.

Her paws carried her to the edge of the pond that rested at the center of this willow forest. She came to a halt and sank onto her haunches, leaning her head down to lap up some of the cool water. With a sigh she lifted her gaze to her surroundings. For no reason at all she found herself musing on her past, flashing through each of the major events in her life. Killing her sister, being disowned by her parents, each of her kills as an assassin, each of the wolves she had met over the past several months, joining Amenti, and now being pregnant with her first litter. She thought about her most recent kill, the leader of those murderous rouges that had attacked her and Demonio. A cold grin creeped over her muzzle as she felt that satisfied glow come over her at a job well done. She had come out of it with an injured shoulder, but Tiresias had patched her up and now here she was, alive to tell the tale. Alena wondered what had ever happened to Demonio. They had parted ways and she hadn't seen hide or hair of the pale brute since. Looking down at her reflection, she silently wondered if he had ever found his long lost mate.

"Speech."

Desdemona was gone and there was no getting her back. Demonio had finally come to terms with his new reality and it was slowly starting to not affecting him. Thoughts about her were becoming less frequent and when they did come along, they didn't have the same force that they did when her abandonment had been more recent. It still hurt a bit to think about how she just left him like that, but he was resigned to the fate that had been bestowed upon him. But he didn't dwell on her much. He had his place among Valhalla now, with his new daughter Seraphine. He was slowly building himself a new life, one where Desdemona was nothing but a distant memory. He was getting better. Or so he thought.

It was a very warm summer day, not extremely hot, but warm enough that it dredged up just a bit of heat exhaustion if one stayed out under the glare of the sun for too long. Being of a pale coat, Demonio wasn't affected too greatly by the sun rays, but that didn't mean that he was completely immune to the heat either. It affected him just like any other. He had left Seraphine back home in Val that day, just wanting to have a bit of time to himself, away from his new home. Don't get him wrong, he loved Valhalla already, it was a great home, but he was still kind of adjusting and the occasional alone time was just what the doctor ordered. He didn't wander far, his mind set now one of a father's, making him a lot more worrisome than he had ever been before. He didn't plan on being gone for too long. Despite having left not to long ago, he could already feel the familiar ache of Seraphine's absence gnawing at his heart. He didn't like being away from his new daughter for so long, not when she was such a big part of him forming his new life.

Pale limbs moved at an easy pace, a slow walk bringing the white man towards the whistling willows. His mismatched gaze had been focused on his paws, watching as his talons dug into the soil with every step, oddly interested in his paws for some reason. He should've kept his eyes down. When Demonio looked up, his heart nearly stopped. Desdemona's name flashed across his mind like a beacon as his gaze settled the pregnant white woman before him. She was nearly identical to Desdemona, were it not for her amethyst eyes. Would that have been how his ex-wife have looked like if she'd stuck around? He could only wonder as he stood frozen in place, staring at the white woman he'd met before but whose name he could remember at the moment, too deeply immersed in his shock to try remembering it.

Alena's gaze was fixed down and the smooth surface of the water, amethyst gaze peering back up at her. A gentle, easy smile rested on her muzzle as she looked down at her reflection, her thoughts of her history leading her up to this moment. In her four years of life she had been down a long, violent road, but it seemed like things were taking a different turn. She was a member of a pack that she loved, had a fairly good position in it, would soon have a family... It was a whole list of things she never thought she would have. It was a strange thing for her, but she was more than happy to embrace it now. She didn't think she would ever loose that cold, calculating, assassin side of her, but now she felt like there could be something else, something more.

Her ears twitched as she heard paw steps approaching her and coming to a halt. She lifted her gaze in the direction of the sound, seeing the larger white brute standing there staring at her. She saw his two-toned gaze, the sight poking at her memories. A smile stretched across her muzzle as she remembered, calling over to him, "Demonio!" She stood and padded over to him, her tail wagging gently, coming over to sit back on her haunches once again before him. She looked at him curiously, seeing the shocked expression on his face. Was it cause she was pregnant? Did he remember who she was? She chuckled softly and added, "What's wrong? It looks like you've seen a ghost."

"Speech."

Fate was a cruel, cruel thing, taunting him like that, dangling what he had wanted most in his life right in front of him, knowing that he would never be able to have it. He should've been back in Tortuga with her, enjoying their children, caring for them, playing with them, loving them. But that would never happen. Never. He was bound to be alone for the rest of his life and it was something that he had to come to terms with. Having his own blood family was not meant to be, but that didn't mean that he couldn't create his own family. Family wasn't determined by those who were of your blood, but instead by those who you wanted in your life and who wanted you in theirs. That was family and Demonio did have his family.

Alena. That was her name. She was the ivory assassin who had helped him back when he'd been looking for Desdemona, the one he had fought side by side with when the rogue's had come to attack them. And now she was here, pregnant. Who would've of thought. She easily recognized him, his distinct mismatched eyes a dead give away. She rose from her spot before the water, padding across it to come to side beside him, noticing the expression of shock that was written across his face. What's wrong? It looks like you've seen a ghost. He almost had, but he wasn't about to let her know what was going on with him. He didn't need to burden her further. Alena, excuse my rudeness. It's good to see you again, I didn't expect to see you so soon and heavy with pups. His good natured smile came back easily across his pale lips as he wiped every thought of his ex-wife from his mind, turning his head down to look at the smaller white woman, gaze roaming across her figure. She was pregnant. But by who?

Alena was glad to see that Demonio remembered her, wondering what had been going through his mind when he gave her that odd look. She chuckled softly, glancing down at her own stomach when he mentioned not expecting to see her heavy with pups. "I didn't expect to be having pups, honestly," she replied with a sigh, bringing her gaze back up to his. She felt comfortable enough to be honest with him after the experience they had been through. He had pretty much saved her life after all; that held him in great honor in her mind. "I um... had a bit of a run in with a brute. It was consensual, of course, but... a mistake none of the less. I hadn't been thinking straight and now here I am, having his pups." She glanced away from him, shrugging shyly. "Nothing I can do about it now, you know? I've kind of accepted it and maybe even started looking forward to meeting them." She blushed lightly under her ivory fur, knowing she was admitting that to herself as well as Demonio.

She pushed the thought of her litter away and in its place came to mind the brute she had hunted down after she and Demonio had parted ways. The bastard that had led the rogues that had attacked them senselessly. "Um... I feel like I should tell you that I took care of the leader of those rogues." Her ears flicked awkwardly, unsure about how to tell the kind brute that she had basically murdered someone. She knew he was aware of her being an assassin and the killing had been completely justified in her eyes, but even still, it had been a murder and not one someone else had asked her to perform. "He won't be attacking anyone else," she added, looking out over the water.

"Speech."
