She'd slunk here feeling like scum of the earth... and in a few ways, she probably was. Stringy little mushrooms had sprouted from her nose and the corners of her eyes. It was awful. Fable snuffled as she went, trying to get a good, deep breath in. But it felt impossible. Every breath was difficult. She hadn't let herself begin to think about what might growing still inside of her. They were a fungus, where did the spores originate from? This was, without a doubt, the worst version of herself. She hated that she'd gotten here from an overblown confidence in her own abilities. Fable had been so certain that she was talented, but she was nothing but a fraud. Dread filled her gut when she'd thought of going home, so she'd taken a detour and decided to go skirt around the mountain instead of taking a more direct route. Maybe by the time she found her way back to Abaven, she'd found a way out of this.
It also wasn't a coincidence that she'd passed by Ashen. Fable hoped that Oki might catch her scent and investigate. It hadn't been so long since they'd parted ways after her incredible soup failure, and now she desperately wanted to apologize. He might understand that she got carried away, but she was almost sick with the thought that he might agree with that cloaked figure: she was a moron. A failure. Fable ambled onwards, occasionally pausing to try and suck down a complete breath with thick, raspy tones.

Kuroki still wasn't sick and he intended to keep it that way. He felt safer roaming about, moving from place to place before any lingering effects could grab a hold of him and take root. He'd seen how it progressed, how wolves seemed to go from bad to worse in a matter of days. The less time he spent with sickos the better, or at least that's what he told himself as he came over to the Grande to take a hesitant drink. After raising his head that's when he spotted Fable right down the river looking miserable as they came. And sick too.
Unsurprisingly-what a weird thing to say, given the context- she seemed to have caught the mushroom strain. Growing all sorts of icky fungi like she was a dead log left out to rot. He made his way over slowly, but maintained a nice and safe distance. It had worked for him when it came to that Northern girl, so he saw no reason to avoid Fable at the very least. Besides, it looked like she needed some company. Even if from afar.
"Hate to say I told you so." No he didn't.

She tried to gulp down air to answer Oki as he approached, but it only served to further trigger a coughing fit. It felt like there was something rooted deep and growing in her lungs. The thought made her want to pass out. Fable flicked her eyes to him, gesturing weakly with a paw that she was attempting to speak. A few more seconds of wheezing passed before she managed to squeak out: "I deserve it." Her voice was small and pitiful. Although she thought a great deal of herself - well, maybe she once had - she wasn't above admitting her mistake. She struggled to sit up and speak again, but a great rush of blood made her so light headed that she was forced to remain on her side. Oh, this is bad. Praying that news of her condition didn't reach Abaven, Fable wet her lips and spoke again: "D-don't tell anyone. Our secret." Each word was almost painful.

Kuroki quirked a pale brow. Since when was she a martyr, so eager to take it laying down and accept her piece, like there was nothing to be done about it? Still keeping his distance, he moved a little closer but was markedly weirded out by the spores puffing past her lips. If she didn't wanna get up, he wasn't gonna make her. Propriety be damned, she was sick and needed rest.
"How come?" He asked, unconvinced of the need for secrecy. "You ain't the only person who's sick, nothing to be ashamed of." And then he paused, wondering if being constructive would help her out. She did like to put things together, cook and concoct. "You tried making a home remedy or something? That would be a great claim to fame, I cured the plague."

Fable stayed quiet and low, listening to him talk. It felt good to hear the sound of his voice, even better that he wasn't judging her. And it was true - so many had fallen to this strange, unbearable sickness. She shuddered to think about the elderly of the pack - her grandfather included. Would they make it past this? He had gotten so grey in the face this past season. Her heart wrenched painfully. To counteract the sudden, almost physical ache at the thought of her grandfather dying, she tried to take a steadying breath, but it only served to break her up into another coughing fit. Knives raked their way down her throat with every inhale. "You're r-right. I shhould try."
But what could she even attempt? A cure... the thought boggled her mind. "D'you haa-" she paused to cough, "any ideas?" Everything around them seemed afflicted by the oozem the sparkle, the gross - whatever you wanted to call it. Fable's mind turned over and over as she struggled to come up with something that might work. Obviously eating any of this stuff would only make her sicker. "Ssalt can be soothing. This does run to the ocean. Maybe some salt water, some -" she stopped to cough again, loud and wet. "Let me call Alouette. Maybe she bring some of my aunt's things." She called out, a weak and warbling howl.
It was no secret that Theory often sent Lou to trail her, just in case. A rustle of wings in a nearby tree proved her right. Fable laid still for a long while - it felt like an eternity. "Thank you... for the company," she said softly, a little cough punctuating the end of her sentence. Alouette returned after a while, bringing a satchel filled with odds and ends. From the smell of it once it was dropped nearby - astringent, herbaceous - it was a mixture of her aunt's healing stores and her own cooking supplies. Among the items was a stoppered bottle of what she recognized as extremely powerful alcohol. It was some of the last of her father's stash. Alcohol. It was good for cleaning wounds. Would it clean the wound on the inside of her body? Shuddering, Fable dragged herself closer to the satchel and looked over the supplies. Another sealed container - honey. It also soothed infection. Fable used a small empty container from her own supplies and mixed honey, strong alcohol (oh, it burned her nose just smelling it), and some thick, shriveled chunks of ginger. It looked horrible and the smell of it stung her nose, but it almost felt like it was clearing her sinuses. "Alright... bottom's up," she wheezed, slurping up the mixture that made her eyes water. At least the thick honey soothed her aching throat.

There, now that was a little better. Of course, he didn't expect her to leap to her paws and get to it, but some effort was better than none. When she asked if he had any ideas, Kuroki offered her a two shouldered shrug. He was just the muscle, here to be tall and tough whilst he let the smooth talkers and thinkers get the real shit done. And speaking of Fable was quick-ish, all things considered, to get to work as she put together some sort of brew. He would have offered to go fetch her a thing or two, made himself at least a little useful, but instead a bird came out of the trees and took up the mantle instead. Reducing Oki to the role of moral support as he stood there and watched her work.
He could handle this, probably.
"'S all right. Least I could do." Wasn't like it was hard anyway, like being around her-ooze and all- was a chore. "And hey, if it makes you worse least I'm here to drag your sorry ass back home."
He stood there, watching, waiting and anticipating to see if it would work.

A shudder rippled down Kuroki's spine as his skin began to prickle. Slight at first till it really felt like something was crawling away under there, meandering in circles till he plopped down on his butt and raised a hind leg to kick and scratch it away. When he raised his gaze he noticed a looming figure, seemingly selling stuff like that was a normal thing to do.
Whut.
"I'll have uh...that bottle?" He posed it like a question, what the hell was swirling within? A small unfleshed thought, apparently.
After the exchange, Kuroki popped open the lid and what- there was a voice muttering so quiet even his wolf ears couldn't catch what was being said. So naturally, he tipped it into his ear to hear it better. Cause listening to strange voices had served his Sire so well, right?

She blinked her bleary eyes, realizing that they were sharing a similar vision: the same shadowy figure that had appeared to her before. A shudder of fear raced down her spine. Fable knew better than to bargain. Who would take their chances with this fellow now? Not her, that's for sure. Fable lifted her head weakly to inspect his wares. He offered different items than she'd last seen, which was intriguing. Did his wares change depending on his customer? She gestured towards the Deer Dad's Blessing. It was the priciest of the bunch, so that had to mean something. Right? With a soft cough, she accepted the trinket. Fable turned it over and over in her paws, willing the thing to work upon her. Obviously her home remedy wasn't worth much, even if the honey did soothe her throat. Perhaps she'd have more luck with this mystery gift. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched Oki tip a vial over and into his ear. "H-hey!" she coughed. "Careful!" But that made her kind of a hypocrite, huh?

You blink, and you realize you're farther above the ground than you've ever been before. You feel drawn to move and, by the thrumming of your wings, it happens. Wait- your... wings? Yes, your wings, you remember now. You buzz happily, your body lighting up blue. The blue is new, you recollect, but you are still you and will remain you whether you glow warm or cool tones. You fly to the edge of a large rock and rest in the soft mosses that cling to its side. Your friend, a roly-poly crawls past, disturbing only the smallest droplets of glowing dew. Another friend, the worm- one of many- peers out. He snakes around, chewing at the moss. He is trying to get bigger, he says, stronger too. You flash your lights at him encouragingly before taking flight once more. Where will you go, you wonder, but it doesn't matter- in the never-ending light, you're always home.
You blink again, and you remember you are a wolf, not a firefly. What a strange and unfleshed thought.

Deer Dad's Blessing
You turn the item over in your paws, willing yourself to be blessed. Suddenly you are transported to a world far away from the one familiar to you. A family of deer feeds nearby on a field of flora, coated in glimmering crystals. A small fawn tilts its head as it notices you, bowing its head to you as if in respect.
You are a deer now- at least partially. Here you are safe and loved; here you'll never be alone.
You wake suddenly after the strange dream... Did that item do anything?
