Kotori had waited until he was home to try the strange concoction the being had given him. Kotori had more questions than answers as the individual had only offered up options of what he might be instead of a simple answer. If attacking the guy would have for sure worked Kotori would have been very happy to do so but it was true for all he knew the firefly like fellow could be a victim in some weird way also. Thinking on it would only have Kotori get more confused.

The brownish wolf also wasn't sure how smart it was to drink a potion he didn't know about. As a pup Kotori had started training to become a healer before deciding that would be boring yet there were a few things he remembered. Some medicines could make you sick instead of well and he had loved the idea of using poison as a weapon. Who said this wasn't a poison? At least here he could get to someone close if poisoned to try and get help. Kotori sniffed at it first then sipped it, then swallowed it in one gulp.

Two fires were on either side of the wolf, lighting up the darkness a bit. He couldn't explain it but the darkness felt more oppressive, intimidating him so that he wanted flames to always be around him till the sun came back. For that matter he'd had some strange ideas in his mind, wanted to snap angrily at those nearby for most foolish things. He had the same disease as others in his family had. The ooze was dripping from primarily his ears and nose but also some in the mouth and even a much thinner and occasional fluid from one eye.

Glittering Concoction

So glittery...

You drink the concoction and fall into a deep, deep sleep. As you begin to dream, you find three paths open up ahead of you. The first is lined with mushrooms; the second, sharp, glimmering crystals; and finally the third is shrouded with thick mist and dancing fireflies. You can choose to walk down one of the paths, or go back the way you came... which do you choose? Choose wisely!

Kotori had just started to feel strange but then sleep had come.  Wasn’t he asleep?  If he wasn’t then how was he in such a strange predicament?  What wasn’t strange these days.  Kotori looked among the paths, brow furrowing.  The mushrooms and crystals had both caused sickness so did this confirm the fireflies caused the madness that afflicted some?

Kotori felt a shiver up his spine and he thought of just choosing to try and leave but another notion came to mind.  What if at the end of one of these paths was a cure for what had afflicted them all?  What were the odds?  Kotori let out a slow sigh, well aware that to not choose away would leave him always wondering.  Doing nothing certainly wasn’t helping anyone, shouldn’t a choice be made for a small hope?

The young male grinned imagining he could also be walking into growing sicker than any other or even dead.  He grinned imagining he was worried about a big joke with nothing happening.  Snickering at the foolishness in thinking he could come up with a good logical answer he shrugged.  He’d worried less about the fireflies than the crystals and mushrooms all this time so he chose the foggy path with the fireflies dancing about.

“Alright fella’s,” he mused to the fireflies, “Let’s see what secrets hide in fog, hmm?  Joke’s on me if it's nothing.” Jokes on him if he died, jokes on him, well for about anything.

Presented with three choices, Kotori continues the path filled with fireflies and thick fog, hoping he'll find a cure along the way. A strange voice sounds out. "Remember, Kotori, it isn't always about what's at the end of your journey... don't forget to slow down and enjoy those around you, even when the circumstances seem dire.." The fog feels impenetrable until he sees a blue glow up ahead, and as he continues along he finally sees his slender mongoose companion up ahead - only he looks different than Kotori remembers. He's grown what looks like a hard exoskeleton around his body; it glows blue in the pale moonlight. You definitely won't lose sight of him now. When Kotori awakens your companion will be at his side.
