The small predators had gone beserker, she'd decided. The ones infected were straight up terrors. Currently she was squaring off the ugliest coyote to ever roam the earth. Crystals grew across most of its body and what little hair it had left was slicked down by ooze or stuck up in nasty looking spikes. He was stalking her, creeping closer every chance, but something in Skadi's gut told her not to touch it. Otherwise she would have killed it and been done with it. But how to kill it without getting any goo on her? That was the problem and until she figured it out they were just going to keep circling one another.

He hadn't been feeling his best, but at least he wasn't worse off. No, some of the other creatures had gotten much, much worse than him. He'd been attacked on several occasions, and the small wounds he had oozed glowing stuff and mushrooms were growing from them as well, though at least they were small. Perhaps his attackers had infected him, it was the only logical thing he could think. He trekked through the trees, wheezing from the spores he'd been breathing in from the mushrooms sprouting from him. When he paused to take a breather, he heard growling nearby and his curiosity was piqued.

Snorting to expel some of the ooze from his nostrils, he weaved his way through the trees until he spotted a small purple wolf squaring off with an ugly, crystallized coyote. His ears laid back and he pawed the ground with a hoof, a snort of agitation escaping him. He was sure that had been one of the creatures that had attacked him a few days ago, and now here it was. "Seems we keep running into each other, you mangy mutt!" He kept an eye on the purple wolf, but he wasn't too worried about her since he recognized Fireside's scent.

"Speech"

Upon hearing a voice the first thing Skadi felt was relief. She needed back up here, because she wasn't touching that thing The second thing she felt, after glancing at the stranger speaking, was dismay. Not only was the speaker an herbivore but he was infected too! How was she going to get away from a coyote AND a horse? This was bad, really bad...

The third thing she felt after processing some more was a smidgen of hope. The horse had spoken, so it wasn't a dumb prey animal. Dare she thing it might help her, a predator? He was already infected anyway so what was a little coyote goo on his hooves? "You know this guy?" she asked the horse. "Because," she hinted, "if vengeance is on your mind he's no friend of mine..."

His attention remained on the crystal-ridden coyote, his ears flattened as he kept on his toes in case the little ugly beast decided to try and finish the job, but...it was alone. Last time it was with a pack of similarly diseased coyotes. Maybe this was the last one left. "You know this guy?" Balian's ear flicked briefly toward the small girl and he nodded, rolling his shoulders as oozey eyes narrowed at the little beast. "I'm pretty sure that thing infected me..." He turned his head back towards the coyote and snorted, sending a glob of ooze smack dab in its face which caused it to yelp and snarl as it stopped in place and seemed to vibrate like a battery-powered chihuahua, teeth-gnashing and ooze dripping from its mouth. "You're not infected yet, Fireside girl, I can handle this." He grinned, raising his head and calling for his flying companion. The bird swooped in, talons extended as she caught a crystal on the coyotes back and yanked, dragging the coyote back and causing it to cry out from the pain.

Skadi's brow raised and her lips puckered as the horse mentioned the coyote was likely what had infected him. Yikes. Welp, this was some luck, wasn't it? The horse seemed friendly enough, the coyote was a fucking goner, she just knew it, and she wasn't going to have to get her paws dirty. Huzzah! That was leagues above what how she had expected this day to end.

"Well then by all means, let me just..." She shot the horse a confused look while sidestepping out of his way in case he wanted unfettered access to the coyote. The sudden bird attack surprised her but then her attention went back to the horse because now she had questions. "What do you know about Fireside? You know what, it can wait, do your thing..."

Sure, he had mushrooms growing on his wounds and ears and stuff, but it didn't slow him down just yet. An ear flicked to catch the girls words, and he glanced at her for a moment with an answer on his lips, but that was all the coyote needed as it lurched towards him and snapped at his forlimb. Balian snorted and reared, front legs flailing in the air before he brought them down and stomped on the little beast. Crystals cracked beneath his force, but the coyote seemed...well...like it hadn't been phased. Confused, Balian faltered for a moment as the bloodied little beast lunged at him and its teeth caught his pastern. Squealing with surprise, Balian reared again and spun. The coyote let go, and the moment it hit the ground, Balian came down on it again, but this time, he made sure to put all the force he could onto the coyotes head. The sound of crushing meat and bone was heard, and the sound was...gruesome, to say the least. Crystals shattered beneath his hooves, but so did the coyote. He had never quite been so violent with another life before, but at least it was out of its misery...

Before he could say anything to her, he blinked and before he knew it, the cloaked figure he'd seen before had appeared out of nowhere, but there was something strange about it this time. Three items were on the table, and the cloaked figure told him to pick one if he could afford it...

He looked over the items from his position on the ground, noting there was one that looked like one he had been given last time he saw the being. There were a couple of other items, but before he could make up his mind, his monkey companion had gone up and swiped the Deer dad's blessing from the table and bounced back to him, leaving the payment of 1 crystal & 2 mushrooms. Well...decision made he supposed. "Er, sorry and..thank you."
