Put 'em up
Kali knew her siblings weren’t content with her position, that they would try to steal it away from her whatever chance they got despite how inevitably inept they were. She needed to keep herself on her toes, and so she made her way to the battleground as she’d done many times before. Her alligator skin armor was tied to her, providing protection to her back, scruff and the outer portions of her legs. Abbadon was curled in his usual position around her neck and Abigor trotted along at her heels, his tongue flickering lazily from his lizard lips. She wasted no time in sending out a call as soon as she arrived, her head tilting back as her challenging call went out through her lip and into the air. Then, all she could do was wait for someone to respond.

Kione had been curious for a while now what it was like to fight a wolf. Sure, they were a different species but still canid and clearly smarter than the non-canids across the land. The painted dog loved a good fight and killing larger predators but a wolf was another matter. He’d had some fun with a number of them but it would still be fun to see who was stronger.
Imagine his luck when he actually heard a wolf calling to challenge any other wolves in the area. Kione was no wolf but perhaps he was close enough to suit the ladies purpose. Kione sauntered up to where the wolf waited, brows raising in surprise at the snake and lizard with her. “Hello Luv,” he greeted the interesting wolf in a friendly manner. “Been wanderin’ about a scuffle with a wolf. Fear I’m probably not what you were hoping to see, but maybe I’ll still work?”
Kione nodded at her general direction, “I don’t want to hurt your friends though. You plan to fight with them?” Kione seemed confused at the notion of fighting with the lizzards. He did enjoy fighting with partners but only other intelligent canids, it seemed strange to use such animals.
Whatever Kali had been anticipating, it hadn’t been a weird dog with huge, mouse-like ears to accept her challenge. And, he had an interesting accent. What was with all these dogs suddenly showing up? She remembered the weird, naked mummy looking dog she’d raced before, but this one was definitely different. Ah, whatever, as long as she got a good spar out of it she supposed she didn’t really care.
He asked if she was going to use her companions in the fight and she rose a brow. “I was anticipating it, yes. Lots of wolves in Boreas use companions for fighting as well as service. They might look cute and scaly,” she said, giving Abbadon and affection bump with her nose, to which he flickered his tongue at her, “But they have some bite. Might be good for you to learn how to fight against a wolf and their companions at the same time, too, if you’re going to be sticking around.”
Once he’d agreed, she turned and got into position. Abbadon slid down from her body and settled at her left side, while Abigor settled to her right. Then, she rushed forward, her jaws gaping open as she went straight for one of the dog’s ears, hoping to not damage it, but apply enough pressure that he would yield.

Kione understood fighting with friends and family but with reptiles? Soaking up the idea had an almost comical expression on his face, but after a second he shrugged it off. The idea of wolves working with other wolves was normal but other creatures of such wide variety? Then the bit that stung, suggesting he find some companions also. Any glib statement he might have made became soured at his bit back how he’d had companions, an entire family of friends that nothing could stand up to. A tide of wild dogs that could take down anything. It was a beautiful memory, a great feeling, and then the tide of memories pulled back into the ocean. He was alone on the beach with emptiness. Oh well.
“Yeah, I’ll keep that in mind.” There was a slightly better edge into but it wasn’t meant for her. “Well Luv, I’m more worried about hurting them than the numbers but you make a fair point.” The painted dog might not look that impressive but his jaw pressure might be a surprise to the wolf. Hmm, he had to remember this was just a romp and not a real fight. No ripping open her guts. How hard did she play? How gentle or rough should he be? Guess she could set the pace?
Kione shifted to a battle stance, not because he really felt a need to prep himself so much as to let her see he was taking this from talking to fighting. It’s what they were there for right? The lean and legged dog stared at her and then lunged but, not forward. Squared at her he still managed to jump sideways and lunge forward aiming for a bite to her leg. If it connected there would be pressure on it for a moment but Kione wouldn’t aim for real damage unless she did.

Admittedly, the sour look that flashed across the dog’s eyes at her mention of a companion did intrigue her. Had he had some before and then lost them? Of course, she would be devastated if Abbadon or Abigor died, but at the same time she knew they were simply tools at her disposal. She gave them protection and food and they did the same for her. It was a symbiotic relationship, but nothing more. They had their job and she had hers, it was as simple as that.
As she rushed forward, so did her opponent. He was surprisingly quick, she’d give him that, and her jaws landed on empty air as he brushed past her, aiming for her hind leg. That same leg lifted, her paw jutting out to try and kick him in the face at his approach which her head whipped sideways, snapping at his tail in an attempt to get his attention elsewhere.

Kione had a great set of breaks it also seemed as when Kali’s leg came up as if to kick him, he pulled back up which seemed a great plan to avoid her foot. However, it meant she was able to snag his tail in a bite. Kione let lose a chirping bark sound in surprise, spinning about with tail jerking away to get free.
Kione danced forward a stride and found a bit of inspiration. In their dancing about, she stood between him and that huge lizard of hers. She was larger than him but not by too much. Kione ran straight at her shoulder, attempting to shove his weight into her shoulder. If she left her balance even a bit she’d probably trip over her pet. The group being in a pile should give him victory.
