The spring storm raged through the fern gully, chasing away any pretty the Warlord might have hoped to track down. The battering winds tossed his coat, and the sheet-like rain drenched him to the bone. Any bolt holes that littered the small hills were far too small for the Warlord to enter. Leaving him with nothing more than the measly cover of a few trees.
He knew in his heart of hearts that the storm would be over long before he reached the Armada - and he could only hope the storm hadn’t made it that far - but that didn’t stop him from desiring to take off like an arrow, shooting across the rolling fields and back towards his home. He knew his wife's fear of thunderstorms, and it was only a matter of time before lightning would be zipping across the sky. He thought of her, huddled in her den, and worried. Logic reminded him of the long trek home, and the thunder he had been listening for rattled across the clouds. A flash of lightning struck not far from where he huddled, beneath the greenery of a small tree. No, leaving would be dangerous, and he would not arrive in time to comfort his wife. He could do nothing but wait out the storm.
