The race had taken a bit more out of her than she’d anticipated, but it wasn’t going to stop her. Kali was stubborn and refused to let herself be beaten down, she knew she wanted at least 2 more races, and 2 more races she would get. After taking another break, gulping down cool, refreshing water, she lifted herself to her paws and gave herself a good shake. She winced at the pull on her muscles, but grit her teeth and bore it anyhow. She raised her head and called out for another racer to challenge her.

"Kali Klein"

Left wanting after the spar, Levi lingered on the battlefield and perked the gold of his ears as they caught a strange request. A race? Why not, wasn't like he was in any rush to head back home, not when this was the perfect place to hone his competitive streak. Stepping forward, Levi eyed the yearling as she waited in place for a challenger. He didn't care that she had to look down on him to get a good view, didn't care her legs were long and lithesome when compared to his stubbly limbs. None of that meant anything, especially when he narrowed in on the thought of how sour she would no doubt be if she lost against him. A tiny child.

He said nothing, didn't need to since his intentions were already crystal clear. Instead, he fell in line beside her, waiting for the go ahead to kick into motion.

"Speech"

Kali watched, dumbfounded, as a tiny pipsqueak toddled his way up to stand next to her. Given he was still larger than her younger brother, Ichor, but it really wasn’t saying much. Hell, he barely met the bottom of her chest. The boy didn’t say anything, leaving her to stare at the tops of his shoulders, prickled with odd, hedgehog-like spikes, and the scent of the Armada wafting up to her. She blinked, slightly unsure of how to proceed, before huffing and looking forward. She wasn’t easy on her siblings, so why should she start on a runt? They’d have to learn one way or another, right?

She got into position, crouching lower to the ground with her haunches bunched up beneath her. ”We’re going to the big, metal object in the distance (a tank). Ready, set, go!” she hollered, jolting from her position to launch herself forward, her first stride probably taking at least 2 or 3 of his. She quickly gained speed, lithesome legs eating away at the ground as she spared no glance over at her tiny competitor.

"Kali Klein"

Looking ahead, Levi eyed the metallic object with vague interest. He didn't know nor care to know what it was, but it would work as a finishing line as it was large and stood out enough to even be seen when their vision was all blurred from running so fast. With no questions or any desire to say anything, Levi simply settled in beside her with muscles tensed and coiled. Ready to spring into action as soon as she said the word.

Ready, set, go!

Kicking off, Levi was eager to show off just how fast he was. That his short stature was more of an advantage than a disadvantage. With a surprising level of deftness and coordination for a such a young age, Levi had no trouble keeping up with her pace as his little paws thudded at the dry ground. As to whether he'd be able to run as far as she could was easily up for debate, but this was a sprint and not a marathon. It would be all over in a matter of moments, the victor made clear as one pressed ahead and passed the big metal thing. But who?

"Speech"

Kali could hear the boy’s paws pattering rapidly across the ground, surprised that he was keeping up with her rather well. But, he was still significantly smaller, with shorter legs and likely less stamina due to his age. Even if this was a sprint, if he had to work harder and move his legs faster to try and keep up, inevitably he would run out of gas before her. But damn if he wasn’t trying. She wrinkled her nose, took in a deep breath, then gave a final push as they neared the finish line, the race too close for her to call as she focused ahead.

"Kali Klein"

Panting softly, Levi knew it wouldn't be long now. That within a few moments or so his paws would pass over the invisible finishing line, but who would get there first? Would she be a sore loser and insist she won regardless of whether she did or not? She was older and supposed to be more mature, but even at such a ripe young age Levi knew those things did not always go hand in hand. His Mother was plenty older than him and yet she didn't seem to be very mature, or adultish even on her best days. Not when all she wanted to do was hide from the world beneath a sea of blankets and pelts.

Pushing even harder, Levi craned his neck forward. Just a little more, a bit more after that and-

Kali didn’t really want to admit it, but she’d lost. How she would never know, but the little meerkat of a boy had won by a paw’s length. She supposed it suited her ego to tell herself it had been close, but he was a pup for goodness sake. Oh, she was so glad Misery wasn’t around to see this, he’d never let her live it down. The girl turned to look at him, panting. A part of her pride refused to take it laying down, and so she did the natural thing: challenged him to a spar. “You’re pretty good. I’ve already sparred a bit today but I could use another one. Want to fight?” she offered, trying to play it off as being generous even though she was really anything but.

"Kali Klein"

A spar? Was she only asking cause she lost? Like if she beat him she'd be redeemed or something? Levi decided he didn't really care, that if he could beat her in a race then why not a fight too? Since she'd been the one to ask, he felt no need to give her a warning or anything polite like that. Instead he simply lunged at her, ignoring the slight protest in his limbs as he made to grab at the soft skin on the inside of her front right leg. Where all her blood vessels ran thick and strong, ready to bleed.

The weasel-like boy wasted no time in lunging forward at her, his needle-like teeth and sabers glinting as he went to grab at the inside of her foreleg. Her nose wrinkled in distaste, paws quick to try and dodge the attack. Still, he managed to nip a small portion, those damn saber teeth, and she winced, feeling a small trickle of blood wet her fur. The Cherubim lifted her leg and swiped at him, aiming to give him a good, strong cuff on the side of the head to hopefully disorient him and, on her part, feel a bit like she was giving him a punishment for the deed.

Talking

The taste of blood settled upon his tongue, just in time for Levi to get whacked around the head. His vision span, senses blurred and hazy as he stumbled for a moment, regaining what had been momentarily lost. Now she would pay. Launching himself forward again, Levi made a grab for the underside of her throat, where blood vessels ran thick and her fur soft. Maybe he was taking things a little too far, but this was simply his way. Too young to know how much was too much, when he ought to stop and take a step back. Restraint.
