Repair Work

Álarr headed out to survey the damage. A significant spring storm had swept through the night before, dumping rain on the range and sweeping eastward through Boreas. A few more holes had been punched in the roof of the barn and a number of tree limbs were down but as far as he could tell there wasn't any major damage. He'd endured some flooding in his stores but everything had been placed on shelves and only the bottom row had ended up saturated in water. He set his mind to getting to work, using his paws to push out the mud and debris that had settled in the storage den.

Úlfr had returned home briefly to Fireside to mourn his mothers. He knew they were older than most but it had still come as a shock to learn they'd passed away over the winter. He'd always thought of them as being invincible. He took some comfort in knowing he might see them again in the after life if he conducted his life appropriately and made the gods proud.
He walked through the range, reminiscing when he saw the healer Álarr cleaning mud out of a den. He barked out a gentle greeting, trying to catch the other mans attention rather than startle him.

Álarr's ears flicked back as heard someone approach and greet him. He turned to see Úlfr and nodded his head respectfully toward the young man. He'd helped prep the bodies for the funeral to come and he couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for the other man. While Álarr didn't have a mother physically present with him he still had Valentine. Although for how much longer? Valentine was one of the oldest wolves he knew in in existence and sooner or later the old man's time was going to run out.
"Good morning, Úlfr. I see you made it through the storm ok. How are you holding up?"

Úlfr wasn't quite sure how to answer Álarr's question. He shrugged lightly. "I'll live." What else could he say. He did not feel great but he wasn't going just hide in his den and weep either. It would be a deservice to his mother's memories. "What happened here? Are you digging a new den?" He figured he might as well make himself useful while he was staying in Fireside. It would take time for the wood to dry that he required for the funeral pyres. Furthermore he'd sent his ravens out on errands and needed to hear back from them before he proceeded further with his preparations.

Álarr could tell the young man didn't want to talk about his losses so the healer pushed it no further. It wasn't like he had enough experience with comforting someone anyway. He hadn't the faintest idea what to say. He was glad when the topic changed to the den and he shook his head. "No, I'm digging the mud and gunk out of my herb storage den. The rain last night caused a bit of flooding. If you're not busy I wouldn't mind the help." He figured the boy was probably looking for something to do anyway. Álarr scraped the mud off his paws and made room for Úlfr to get in and help dig.
