holy tits on a stick, thank you muse ♥

The scraggly shadow that branched out into jagged tendrils from her dainty paws was all that accompanied the enigmatic sovereign on her journey throughout her kingdom, performing the now-routine duties of scouring the entirety of the realm for trespassers as well as ensuring none breached the boundaries indicated by her domineering aroma by refreshing the markers while she lumbered along. The job she had strived for and dreamt of since the moment she had first held power in her firm grasp was now becoming less desirable by the moment, reduced to something akin to a chore that pestered the wench as much as it appeased her. Perhaps there had been a miscalculation in her prediction of the life an imperial queen lead, believing it once to be equivalent to lounging in the lap of luxury, but now that she had finally obtained the reigns of control, her viewpoint had shifted. There had been nothing left to aspire towards and no schemes left to produce once she had actually breached her long-term goal, and the once-ardent viper had been left with no dreams to chase after and a lack of the thrill she had thrived upon during her limited days as a daydreamer. The queen had accepted that her life had become dull once everything she had ever desired was in her possession, and thoughts such as these oftentimes lead her to believe that her purpose in life had been prematurely fulfilled and that not many milestones remained in her future. However, such assumptions did not intimidate or depress the wraith, but rather fueled her with pride at the knowledge that there were no more mountains left to conquer or pedestals to destroy ? she was at an understanding, permanently comfortable.

Although those thoughts always whirred at the back of her mind, she was uncertain as to whether or not she would ever truly act upon her impulses and end her trek while it was so glorious just so that it could conclude upon a positive note, for there were still three attachments to provide that much energy to keep her walking at an easy pace. Her hold upon leadership, however, could be relinquished at any moment, but there was a pull towards the pack within her possession that desired to see it prosper rather than crumble beneath disbandment or faulty authority as it had so many instances in the past, so she truly could not simply remove the crown embellishing her skull with the knowledge that it could fall into the wrong paws. Should either of her children had been of age and exhibited potential for such a demanding position, it was probable that she would hand the pack into their capable grasp; alas, they were still under a year and entirely too inexperienced, leaving the woman with no other option than to keep trudging along and bearing the weight of the pack on her shoulders. It was tedious but it was what she had bargained for and what she would maintain until an opportunity arose ? if it ever would.

Walk | "Talk" | Think

A lazy sort of contentment had settled over the black striped wolf since the first meeting called together by the silver-eyed Imperial who had reclaimed Tortuga. With it came a sense of belonging, a pull and call toward a greater good that was just as much outside of himself as it was within. It was something he could gravitate toward, and recent events had only solidified these views. He had found them, his immediate family. His Aunt Vi he had always known to be within the borders of Tortuga along with him, distant and always at Morphine's beck and call, but for the longest time he had gone around unknowing of the whereabouts of his father, mother, and siblings. The loss of the pitch she-wolf who had birthed him still stung, the additional losses of his family as they moved off, separating into different corners of the world, just as trying on the still young boy, but it had only been an excuse to throw himself more wholly into his work.

Although he wondered if it could truly have been called work. Having signed himself up to venture outside of the Tortugan territory - his designated comfort zone - into foreign occupied lands, Rune had begun trying to work on his speech. He could, when necessary, carry on a conversation, but he was considerably poor at it, lacking the tact that might cause someone to reveal more than they should have or the wit to win someone over and draw them into a false sense of comfort. If anything, his patterns were simple, straightforward, carrying weight but no flare that seemed to be a commonality among many charismatic leaders. No, he was more suited toward being the quiet muscle, there to offer support and guidance when absolutely necessary. But a silent sentry was not what the pack needed now. They needed a voice, a capable one, to represent them and bring them back the most accurate data they could on the kingdoms that reigned around them. And so he was trying to adapt.

His way of adapting had been to start talking to himself, at first absently but with a growing comfortableness. It was so out of character for him, however, that the act itself embarrassed him, and so he had taken to doing so well out of earshot of those few others who roamed the territory, turning his speech practice sessions into a well-guarded secret. He wandered now, black dipped paws creeping silently through the familiar vegetation along a usually forgotten edge of the pack's land, thoughts muttered aloud to himself. "Should be leaving soon," he intoned quietly, "the sooner the better. Lots of ground to cover. Hopefully everyone can go." Frosty blue eyes glancing idly at the ground that he tread upon, Rune spoke of the impending visits to the surrounding packs, the most interesting and foreboding endeavor that currently loomed ahead in his horizon. Stern expression darkening slightly as he frowned, the young male hoped that things would go well for the pack; they had been through enough rough times recently. No more were needed.

But all thoughts temporarily ceased the moment he caught the scent of the Imperial woman as she traveled his way, his muttered words dying on his tongue. The dull grey male stopped, straightened, pale eyes staring out of his stoic face expectantly searching the treeline in anticipation of the lady's approach. With time, he eventually saw her, a ghostly wraith who slipped silently through the trees and meandered about with effortless purpose. As a pup he had been somewhat dazzled by her natural beauty though he might not ever had shown it, and even with age some of it still lingered. But he knew better than to let it deter him from his task. Whether she had noticed him or not, Rune already began lowering his head, respectfully awarding the higher ranking female with a physical show of acknowledgment to her superior status. It was only as she neared that he spoke, and only a single word meant with cordial greeting, "Morphine."

holy tits on a stick, thank you muse ♥

Paw-pads kissed the foliage embellishing the earth she traipsed sluggishly upon, each stride becoming more tentative as a singular scent writhed through her olfactory system, alerting her to the approach of one of her younger recruits ? the sole canine that had shown up at the pack meeting that hadn?t had any ties toward the covetous ice queen or her troublesome trio. Vagueness ensnared her pallid countenance and metallic eyes reflected her apathy as her pupils settled upon his gargantuan figure that had been silhouetted by the ample light provided by the moon, stance shifting just slightly to pronounce her authority over the young male as her skull ascended to its maximum apex and her tail elevated above her rump. Immaculately poised as the prestigious title that branded her suggested, the wraith curtly inclined her muzzle in the direction of the goliath in greeting, pride fluctuating within her as she digested his inferior posture and met his cerulean gaze with her own steel. Triangular ears involuntarily tipped forward as her given moniker graced the midnight air in his baritone vocals, but the babe was far too consumed in the thought of her predicament to verbally greet the male, instead allowing silence to momentarily settle over the duo as she pondered.

Memories of the pack meeting rushed back to hit the wraith between the eyes, extracting her from her imagination and reeling her back into the external world that was occupied by her eager recruit. She scrutinized the male just briefly, attempting to decipher just how competent this brute would prove to be should she truly send him on the mission she had promised. ?And how are we on the topic of sending you off to Ludicael, my friend?? she inquired, deciding upon his fate at that very moment. The ice queen did not believe the brute would reject his demanded task, but she did want to bring the matter up to the male for the pack was desperate for some activity ? it needed to be done as soon as physically possible. After all, the ice queen was eager to learn about the firebird that Medusa continuously raved on about as well as the pack that lie under her regime, so she had made the pack to the east her top priority ? eager to view it for herself as well. Perhaps she would be able to convince the pallid male to allow her to accompany him on his journey and tweak him to become a better diplomat if ever she could along the way, for the brute shared similarities with her silent daughter and success would only be breached if she had a charismatic creature to represent the pack.

Walk | "Talk" | Think

As befitted her status in comparison to his own, the Imperial wolf lifted her head and tail in answer to Rune's fealty, ever conscious of her position and importance. Rune half expected it and was not at all surprised to see her expressing that dominance that she possessed. Morphine had never struck him as the modest type, though rarely did she seem to excessively flaunt what she possessed: power, beauty, intellect. The movements were a natural motion for her, almost an afterthought, and the youthful male could only wonder what passed through the mind behind those distant silvery eyes as she regarded him with a look that hinted at thought, at distraction. His presence had possibly interrupted her internal monologue, if she had had one going, but from the look about her he thought himself safe from receiving irritation from it.

For a moment she merely stood, appraising him, and Rune did his best not to move under that stare. He held himself still, neither nervous or overly confident, merely comfortable in himself and what he could feel himself becoming. The voice of the icy queen cut the air with a suddenness that caused his ears to twitch, but her tone was not unkind or even curt. And in that moment he realized she had been making plans for him. Ludicael. The pack name rolled through his mind momentarily, doing what it could to give him a brief overview of what he knew regarding the neighboring territory. Truthfully, it was very little. His knowledge extended to knowing the pack was not so far away from Mount Volkan and stopped there, knowing no one who resided at the place or even where their allegiances stood among all the territories of Alacritia.

But was he ready to go and conduct his mission successfully? That thought made him nervous. He was still only newly begun at his newest form of practice, still overly quiet and reserved in the presence of others who could so much more easily participate in a conversation than himself. But realizing that the matter would ultimately be out of his hands - Morphine would send him when she was ready for him to go - he resigned himself to whatever her decision would be. "If that's where I'm needed to go, I'll go. I'll be ready when you give the word," Rune answered, no longer thinking of the expectations that Morphine would place on him but his own. What he wished to see of his own performance was equal if not greater than what his leader expected out of him, and in no way did he wish to disappoint either of them. And nor would he, if it could at all be helped.
