Navigating : emerald island

The darkness had left an unbelievable scar on the land. If not physically it defenitely was emotionally and spiritually. Koby had hidden himself for most of it, the cold nights had forced him underground avoiding most of the infection. Alas it made him think, the large snake needed to explore every inch, discover all that there was. After a short swim he came across the shore of this island.

At first the warmth on his scales was a nice feeling, as he slithered more inland he noticed the decrepit trees. The soil was darkened, seemingly not providing the plants for what they needed. There was beauity, in the name itself, small specks of green glittered on the dusty terrain. The cobra inspected them carefully, wondering if he should collect some.

Perched on one decrepit tree, Aster caught her breath. The lands surrounding the islands were harsh to blue jays like herself, but at least the dying trees supplied a safe vantage point. She couldn’t say the same about the nearby deserts.

She doubted she’d stay here for long, though, as the darkened soil and blueish vegetation made for ill omens. Was the ooze here as well? She hoped not; she’d been running from that for a while. The only creature she saw nearby was a large snake, and it seemed free from the illness’s telltale signs, so she supposed she ought to relax.

How else did a blue jay relax but to sing? She chirped out a warmup, breathed in deep, and sang at the top of her lungs.

“Her eye is bright as burnished steel,
Her note a quick defiant cry;
Harsh as a hinge her grating squeal
Sounds from the keen wind sweeping by.”

This island almost had a whole lot of nothing to explore that was for sure. Koby could not see any of the previous darkness. Luckily so. Hed avoided thinking about it for the most part. As the snake stopped he heard a blue jay.... he stopped. The snake had heard many a poem from the sparrows to the refinery of eagles. He had told fortunes for matriarchy and heirachy avians. Many of which occasionally turned sour.

He rose, trying to get a better look at the bird. His hood remained flat however as he spoke in soft tones. "My my a beautiful verssse. A true poet among your kind." the cobra wiggled side to side in happiness. Looking around he noticed that it was easy to see the bird on this island. "My name isss koby Im a fortune teller." kony introduced himself hoping it would ease the bird.
