The Usual (Post-Raid Healing)

(This post was last modified: 12-26-2021, 04:07 PM by Iolaire. Edited 1 time in total.)
The raid had come as a surprise to most, but little surprised Iolaire. She'd lived through a lot. While the warriors of The Hallows did their business, the emaciated fae slid into a familiar role. She would prepare for those that would return injured. There was no way to avoid injury completely during battle. Aches, pains, bites, maulings. They would all come her way again. Perhaps not today, but eventually.
As she waited for the warriors to begin pouring into the walls, Iolaire grouped items into little packs. Herbs, cleaning cloths, dishes of water. One pack for each wolf that had gone out to fight as well as a few extra for any infiltrators that they might return with. That also wouldn't be a first. She treated friend and foe alike as far as healing went.
Casting her gaze to the side, she showed those gathered just how she liked her items packed. Quick, easy access. All with the same amount of supplies in each bundle.
Io has a dwarf caribou companion and a snow leopard companion. Assume they aren't with her unless stated otherwise.

All of this was sudden, unexpected as she never saw this coming, and she didnt doubt for the rest it would be the same, none of them were waiting a raid. They never messed with no one, being a sanctuary for those who seek shelter, Why would someone wish to invade? To bring war to their door? Why? She couldn't understand, as she always tried to see the good in things, but right now she saw no good on strangers wanting to steal from them. And as she was not a fighter, she stood behind with the healers, feeling like only like this she would be able to help. She remained there beside Lolaire to be there to help in anyway.

Rudy had bolted from the castle, telling her that there was a raid and to stay safe. In the whirlwind of activity, Fern had watched him go, wishing she could join him in battle. Fear seizes her heart as she remembers finding Rudy by the river… bloody and hurt. Shaking her head to dispel the dismal thoughts, Fern sets out to the infirmary, determined to help in any way she can. Slipping in quietly, the gray girl looks around, ready to lend a helping paw with the healers. While she may not have the aptitude for healing, she has picked up some tricks of the trade. Fern sends up a silent thank you to her mother, Meadow. Joining Iolaire and the other healers, Fern listens intently as Io’s instructs them on what she wants bundled.
With a dip of her head, Fern moves over to a small table to start packing items. Heaving a sigh, ocean hued eyes search for the herbs Iolaire had wanted. A small reddish-brown paw sticks up over the edge of the table, offering Fern the exact herbs she needs. Smiling, the gray girl takes the plants from Puff’s small paw, placing them in pack. Everyone works together, reading for the influx of patients that are sure to arrive. Fern checks and rechecks everything, asking Iolaire for help or instructions when she needs them. All she can do is wait… and hope that no one is hurt horribly.
Fern has a female stoat companion named Puff. She is always nearby.

When the call from the night watch had gone out about the raid, Syanna bolted from her oversized bed to go sprinting down the stairs bound for the pharmacy and infirmary. If they were really under attack, there would be violence, and where there was violence, there would be injuries to heal. The Hallows still hadn't fully resupplied their stores from trying to tend to all the sick wolves during the cataclysm, but they had enough to treat physical injuries at the least. She threw open the door to the pharmacy stores and began scrambling about gathering up as many different types of painkillers, antiseptic ointments, and suture kits as she could hold. A bundle of cloths for bandages joined her assortment on the way out the door.
Iolaire had already begun setting up a little triage center in the infirmary for quick inspections of wounds and diagnoses. Syanna set out the assortment of herbs on a long wooden table, letting the aged wolf begin bundling kits together and showing the others how to do the same. She then went over to the large cabinet beside the door and began pulling out an assortment of medical tools and instruments. Scalpels, needles, braces, anything they may need for any sort of injury. She hoped none of their fighters got hurt enough to need any of them, but in a situation where every second counts and could be the difference between life and death, she wanted everything ready and accessible.
From outside, the howls and snarls of fighting wolves could be heard, deadly and violent. Syanna's ears slicked back to her head and she hurried over to one of the tall windows, peering out into the empty nighttime garden. They hadn't gotten in; that was good. "Look alive, everyone. The fighting's started," she called out and returned to gathering supplies for the medics.

Kane had been fast asleep when the alert of invaders went off. He sprung up from the bed, but it took his brain a moment to process what was happening. He realized two things very quickly: this was not a drill and Tamsyn was not in bed with him. Panic gripped his heart, and the giant dire hurried out of the bedroom in time to see Artorias leading a group of Vanguards down the stairs and into the fray. He ran to the far corridors and peered out the windows, spying the carnage just outside the castle walls. Though it was dark, the braziers on the gatehouse lit up enough of the field for him to spy the silhouette of Tamsyn fighting some larger woman, going at her like her life depended on it. An instinctive urge to rush out and help her gripped his heart, but he knew he was next to useless in a fight. He'd likely just get in the way and distract her with worry over him.
He might not be very good in a fight, but Kane knew how else he could help out. Turning and making his way down the stairs, the massive wolf made for the infirmary, finding the space already bustling with activity. The other wolves were already preparing first aid kits as Syanna prepared work stations for each of the medics. With a gerund and a nod to the smaller wolves around him, Kane began to grab some bowls to fill with water to help clean any wounds the pack’s fighters might sustain. He just prayed to the Moon and Stars that nobody ended up grievously injured.

Emile was very much not sure what to do, the call had gone out, and the pack had rushed to react. Wolves dashing outside the castle to face their attackers head-on and more wolves still had started to get ready to receive their returning warriors when it would come time to assess the damage. Emile dithered for a short while, until finally he was sure he wasn't going to get under paw and even worse bump into her. Then he grabbed his planter bag, pulling some of the herbs he'd been growing on his windowsill and tucked away snuggly in his bag. Marigold and a mouthful of harvested dandelion. His meager supplies in his bag the boy would soon join the gathering of healers, he could hear snarlings and yelping beyond the walls and Emile shyly pushed his way through the crowd, his head ducked to hide his scaring and pushed his way in beside his sister. For all he wasn't sure how to keep pushing forward, Emile did and he wouldn't ignore his pack when they needed him. "Speech" |

Haiku hadn’t made things official when it came to living here with Bowen but that didn’t mean he wasn’t going to offer up his paws in hopes of helping. He tried to hang back to protect Bowen but the call for healers pulled him away to lend his assistance in helping the wounded. Most of the Hallows healers were already gathered by the time he pried himself from Bowen and made his way to the infirmary.
He had no supplies so he mostly looked to someone he could offer his help. The woman who called them there seemed as good as any. Haiku made his way to her side, at the very least he was confident he would learn something today.

After the fight, Serenity waited for the Pirates to flee before even considering the trip into the infirmary. She wasn't quite hurt herself, and what was bothering her she over looked while helping some of the other warriors back into the castle. Walking in alongside her father, they entered the infirmary with a few others and she tried to help get them all settled in a proper order. She seemed completely fine physically, no bites or scrapes, not even sore really. It was her first true fight against another wolf so maybe she did feel a little off but otherwise fine. The incoherent man did little to harm her, she couldn't return the favor to him though.
As if she wasn't one of the patients she didn't line herself up for assessment. Just stuck to the back without a word, letting the moments after battle finally settle on her as she observed the rest of the pack working to help each other.

Avantika did not want to be here right now. Every fiber of her being was screaming as her to go train, go run, go patrol -- go make sure no one could ever get as close to touching her pack as that band of idiots had. She'd won her fight, and that made her feel a little better, but not enough. Nothing was ever enough. Right now, she barely had the strength to fight the urge. But she did. She was in front of the infirmary. She knew she was supposed to go there. The bite wound in her armpit stung and she didn't want to end up with an infection or anything. But holy, she did not want to see anyone injured. She hated being around injured or ill wolves. And she didn't know what had happened to everyone else. She stepped back, eyes suddenly wide. The fire of battle had overwhelmed her that much?
She set her teeth, took a deep breath, and moved forward, entering the infirmary. She stood frozen still. There were more wolves here than she had anticipated. Were... were they all hurt? No, no. They were the healers, mostly. Good. Avantika still didn't allow herself to relax. She wasn't capable of it right now. She was on fire, still. She wanted to fight. She still felt like she was in the fight. Why was it always like this for her? Why could she never let go?
Avantika is prone to panic attacks. Keep in mind when roleplaying with her.

Lillith leaned on Romulus as they returned from outside the castle walls victoriously to their home. They had driven the pirates back but they weren’t without bumps and bruises. Lil had gotten her ankle twisted and was leaning her shoulder on Rom to more easily walk. She didn’t let him carry her this time, she was a warrior and she was going to walk through those gates on her own four feet.
It was no surprise to her that there was triage already set up and ready for them when they got back. Of course Roman fully intended on looking after her leg, and he hadn’t given her a real good look at his own but she was just as prepared to see to his nicks and bruises. She smiled at Emile and Jane, appreciating their commitment to the pack. Lilith was just glad she had been able to go out and help protect them.
Lil grinned up at Rom as she found an empty bed in the corner, a lot like the first day they’d met.

The smoldering rage that had come seeing wolves attack their land was dissipating with smug satisfaction. They had won and beyond that had absolutely trounced their enemies. Heck, Art had even caught one of them. That creep they’d fought had seemed intent to take Rudyard down. What the heck had that been about? He’d gone so far as ignoring Eska and Romulus to try and get to Rudyard’s stomach. Rudyard couldn’t remember seeing the wolf before but it had seemed strange. Still, his focused desire to rip into Rudyard had given the trio a clear victory.
Rudyard made his way to the infirmary, finding Tika as he entered. The tension was practically rolling off her and Rudy nudged his shoulder gently into her, offering a small grin, “Hey, we won. Save the anger for the next battle." Hopefully, his adopted sister took the words to heart. Rudyard was well aware of how little bottled-up rage helped anything. Rudy was saved from his own inner turmoil by the wolf he was walking towards.
Another stressed face and Rudyard had to make sure she saw he was in one piece. Before reaching Fern he glanced to Iolaire grinning, “the toes work great.” Rudyard was thankfully getting used to them just in time. His gaze flicked to Fern, “hey, you can relax. I survived.” He almost joked about how many toes he lost this time than imagined the reaction that could happen at such a joke. Nope, bad plan. “That wolf was crazy though,” Rudyard added on, “bastard tried to get my leg tendons and when that didn’t work he tried to bite my stomach open. Completely ignored Rom and Eska. Idiot made it easy that way. I got a few scratches but that’s it.”

The infirmary quickly becomes a bustle of activity, the healers preparing for the influx of patients. Fern offers her paws where needed, helping organize and bundle things. Soon the fighters start to filter in and the gray girl slips toward the back of the room, allowing healers and fighters pair off. Fern’s task becomes finding Rudy and her eyes stay glued to the door. Ocean-hued eyes catch Serenity and Fern offers her friend a smile and dip of her head. With that, her eyes quickly return to watching the door and scanning the room, trying to find Rudy. Fear begins to grip her heart as two more wolves appear, neither of them the motley gray boy who has stolen her heart. Wolves move and shift and Fern almost misses the happy, smug face of Rudyard arriving. He is all smiles as he enters and she resists the urge to rush over and tackle the gray boy. Golden amber eyes find her and Fern shifts restlessly as he slowly approaches.
There are too many bodies between Rudy and her which only adds to Fern’s agitation. She needs to touch him, to make sure he really is alright. Blood stained memories flash behind her eyes as Rudy speaks with Iolaire. When he finally breaks through the sea of wolves, Fern launches herself toward him, skidding to a halt just before they touch so she can inspect every inch of his body. He tries to ease her mind, playing it off as nothing while also talking of how the crazy wolf had tried to gut him. It takes another minute of inspection before Fern is satisfied that he won’t fall over dead in front of her. Swiftly, she presses her gray form into him and buries her face in his fur.
Inhaling his scent, Fern grounds herself in the moment, listening to his beating heart. When she steps back, her voice is relieved as she says, “I was so worried. Please… don’t do that again. At least… not without me.” Stepping to his side, Fern looks over the room for a healer to give Rudy their own inspection. Spying a very tall male with feathers tied into his fur, the girl points him out and says, “Come on Rudy, time to get you checked out.” With that she starts to herd the conquering hero toward the healer wolf.
Fern has a female stoat companion named Puff. She is always nearby.

Tamsyn drove off the leader of the attacking pack and for that she was proud. It had been quite a while since she had found herself in a real fight and she certainly wasn't nearly as often as she had been when she was a General in Armada, but it seemed that she did still have some skill left in her. The whole situation around this raid didn't sit well with her, especially not as someone who had a paw in leading a notable army for some time. It was clear from the beginning of the fight that a vast majority of the attackers hadn't been fighters, hadn't been prepared, and half of them were noticeably intoxicated. The whole thing felt sloppy and unnecessary. She sighed as they drove off the last of them and she turned back to go into the castle walls.
Inside she found a fairly large group of healers waiting for them, reminding her that The Hallows really had been built for the purpose of healing. Iolaire seemed to be at the helm of them all, directing and distributing supplies, and she was glad to have the knowledgable woman here. Gwynevere was near by as well, taking direction from Iolaire and assisting Syanna as well. Her daughter was more knowledgeable than most when it came to healing techniques and herbs, but she didn't have the real world experience that Iolaire had so she was glad that Gwyn was getting that direction and experience. Perhaps next time her daughter would be the one leading the charge here—if there ever was a next time.
She immediately gravitated to Kane though, finding his massive form easily among the crowd. She went to his side with a smile, reaching up to give him a grateful kiss before taking a drink from one of the bowls of water he had been preparing. She winced a bit as the movement aggravated the cut across her muzzle, but it was a fairly shallow cut so it didn't hurt that much. The bite around the base of her tail was a bit more notable, but even that was bearable. All in all she was glad to have come out mostly unscathed—and glad that she had Kane around to treat her tail so no one else would have to stare at her butt that long.

The fight was over and the raiders had been repelled from their lands. The Hallows stood victorious against the enemies in the night! Romulus was still reveling in the adrenaline and high of their victory when he escorted Lillith back into the castle and down to the infirmary where the healers were already setting up a triage unit to rapidly help the injured fighters. Fortunately for them both, they were both healers themselves and wouldn't need to use up anyone's time taking care of themselves. He'd managed to get away with only a few bumps and shoves, but Lil had taken a brunt of a fight all on her own. There was blood on her foreleg where the pirate had managed to bite her, but compared to some of the other warriors, she'd gotten away mostly unscathed.
Roman returned her grin while they walked together through the infirmary, the silver and slate brute pausing long enough to grab one of the triage kits and bring it with them over to the bed in the corner. He allowed Lillith to use his body to help her up onto the bed and take weight off of her ankle, unwrapping the kit and already pulling out the antiseptic salve and meadowsweet, offering her the painkiller while he began to dab his paw in the salve to apply to her injury. "You were amazing out there tonight, y'know," he commented while he rubbed the salve carefully over and around the bite on her elbow. "What the hell even was that thing you were fighting? Some sort of hairless leper wolf?" He was trying to make light humor with his girlfriend, hoping to distract her from the sting of the antiseptic while he treated her. Once he got the bleeding under control, he'd take a look at her ankle.

Ulric lingered on the battle field until he was sure every one of those damn pirate degenerates was chased off and sent limping back home. The one he had engaged with got the upper hand on him, but a flurry of fighters had descended on the attacker when he was done with him so he at least felt good about the fact that he had kept the pirate busy long enough for the others to arrive. They had one the raid fairly easily all things considered. He was the only one that was more worse for wear with bites all over his right legs and side. He was one of the last fighters to walk into the castle, limping behind the group as he made sure the rest made it in alright. He walked in alongside Serenity, giving her a quick once over to make sure she wasn't injured before he walked toward the busy bustle of healers to have his wounds looked at. While none of them were particularly deep, there were quite a few of them. He looked for Eska as he made his way toward where Emile and Jane were waiting, carefully easing himself down onto his haunches by them with a grimace. He had to stretch out his right hind leg awkwardly to give them access to treat the bite on his right thigh, but it was better than trying to lift his hulking frame into one of the beds.

They had been asleep in bed when the call had gone out for an impending raid. She had had barely enough time to open her eye when Tika had leaped from their bed and adorned her armor. As her head lifted from their pillows, Audra blinked in confusion. It was her first time being a part of a real pack and a raid certainly wasn't anything she'd experienced before. Worry flickered across her expression as she listened to the clamber of everyone racing either outside to greet opponents or healers slipping into the infirmary. Finally, she'd be able to help and show her worth. Inhaling deeply, the petite wolf slipped from the bed and moved carefully through the darkened hallway. Being half-blind made it a bit more difficult to navigate the hallways. As she reached the infirmary, the resounding cries of battle tinged her hearing. One of them would surely be Avantika and her anxiety spiked. Would her girlfriend be okay out there? Erasing the negativity, for now, Audra knew she couldn't worry when she needed to be helpful. Stepping into the infirmary where a group of other wolves bundled items together, she looked to Iolaire. Not a wolf she had met before, but the older female appeared to know what she was doing. Taking a moment to assess what they were doing, Audra quickly made work of helping the others bundle supplies together and prepare for the worst. Attempting to keep the worry of Avantika being hurt out of her mind, she would turn her head every time someone else entered the room. Her heart would sink further until Avantika and Rudyard filed in. Their injuries, at first, appeared superficial and she couldn't help but smile in relief. Quickly making her way over to Tika with a bundle of supplies, Audra waited until Rudyard had moved away before approaching. Reaching up to place her nose in a quick kiss against Tika's cheek, she sighed. "I'm glad you returned okay," she whispered in her soft voice as she moved to inspect the injury in Tika's armpit. "This shouldn't take much to dress," Audra mumbled to herself as she set the pack down before looking up to Tika to make sure it was okay to help first. |

Kane was passing out bowls of water to each of the warriors as they entered the infirmary for treatment. He was glad to see that many of them had returned without sustaining much injury. The raiders must have been ill-prepared or terribly uncoordinated for the Hallows to repel them so easily, but he was thankful for that. It would mean there wouldn't be much mending needed. Giving a bowl of water to Lillith and Romulus as they walked by, the tribal wolf lifted bright hazel eyes to spot the familiar form of his little blackbird making her way over to him. Kane's heart nearly leapt up into his throat as he hurried to grab one of the triage kits, unwrapping it in preparation for Tamsyn. She was walking fine, which meant that her legs hadn't been injured. But he didn't know what sort of injuries she'd sustained until she got closer to his side.
The dire wolf set a bowl of water down for her to drink from while he looked her over, noting the lacerations on her muzzle. They weren't very deep, and though they seeped thin rivulets of blood, wouldn't require more than an antiseptic and a bandage. He returned her kiss and began to gather up his supplies, an antiseptic ointment and gauze to start. "Here comes the General, returning in glory from vanquishing her foes," he teased her gently while he dabbed some ointment on his paw, then began to apply it to her cuts. "This will sting a little, so I am sorry in advance." Once he'd applied the salve, Kane took the bandage and pressed it to her wounds, letting the ointment act as a pseudo adhesive to keep it in place over her cuts. "Now, tell Doctor Kane what else needs attention."

No sooner had Syanna finished provisioning out supplies and tools for the other healers to assemble the kits, the triumphant heroes began filing into the infirmary. She glanced out the windows again in surprise; was the fighting really over already? That had been extraordinarily fast! Yet here they all were, waiting for treatment, and none of them looking too severe! Syanna breathed a sigh of relief and began helping Gwyn divvy out the remaining supplies. Her attention was caught by a scurry of paws, and when she turned, she saw one of the new girls throwing herself at Rudyard, embracing him like her life depended on it. Rudy didn't seem too injured, but he had gotten it worse than many of the others. Blood dripped from some lacerations on his belly, but otherwise the young brute seemed in good spirits.
Syanna grabbed a triage kit and began making her way over to Rudy, sliding nimbly through the throng of wolves to intercept them on their way to an already occupied healer. "Hey, come over here, you two," she called to Fern and Rudy, gesturing them to follow her to an isolated cot. She gestured for Rudy to climb up so she could have better access to his wounds, unpacking the triage kit and preparing an antiseptic salve and bandages. Once he got up, she'd need to inspect his belly to make sure the lacerations wouldn't require stitches. "Tell me what hurts, from most painful to least." Depending on what Rudy reported to her, she'd know how best to treat him.

The soft splatter of blood dripping to the stone floors echoed around the quiet corridor. From the foyer, Artorias limped his way down the halls towards the infirmary. After the raiders had been driven off, he and Ulric had taken their prisoner down to the dungeons and gotten him locked in a cell to sleep off his drunkenness. Artorias didn't fully know what he intended to do with the Hallows' first captive of battle, but he'd think of something. For right now, he just wanted to get his leg looked at and go back to bed. He'd already ordered the castle gates be closed in case the pirates tried for a second round to free their compatriot; at least now the Hallows could rest easy and heal up for the night.
Artorias grimaced as a sharp pain ran through his leg where the pirate had stabbed him. Though it didn't seem debilitating and the wound was clean, it still hurt like a bitch and was bleeding freely, leaving a trail of blood droplets and bloody paw prints wherever he walked. He couldn't put any weight on his leg right now either, half hobbling towards the infirmary where the sounds of action and commotion could be heard. The pain was so great that it drowned out the pain of the bites to his chin. The Aegis made his way inside the infirmary, taking a beat to look around at his wolves. No one had been severely injured, which was all he could have hoped for. He'd gotten he worst of it, and that had solely been because he'd gone soft on the pirate. So stupid of him...
Yet even as he simmered over the idea of anyone attacking his pack, his family, his home, Artorias couldn't help but feel a pride swell within his chest. When danger had come to their door, the Hallows had rallied together at met their enemies on their threshold. Everyone had fought with tenacity and strength, and together they had not only beaten their foes, but decimated them entirely. Artorias couldn't have been more proud of each and every single wolf tonight. Smiling like a fool drunk off victory, the young brute didn't realize he was leaving a small puddle of blood beneath his foreleg as it flowed from his open wound. He wanted to address his wolves, to congratulate them and celebrate with them—but maybe he should have someone patch him up first.

Jane was feeling anxious, knowing many loved ones had gone into the raid, including her parents Eska and Urlik and Artorias and few more. Ears switching as she had her four senses into the field, waiting for them. And soon the first warriors began to come, injured, ears pinned as her heart began racing , and even more when her father had arrived with his leg severely injured, bites all around and his sides were also mauled. "Dad! Oh dad! Ill help you...Im sorry you had to suffer such cruelty! Imma help you." But how? She looked around. "Can someone instruct me? I want to help my dad! And Eska! Please help me." She said worried, and with concern in her voice.
