It had been a while since Raijin had had a good spar and he figured, if he were going to be teaching kiddos the ways of fighting and tactics, he ought to freshen up on his skills. So, the mottled man ventured his way out to the battlefield. He’d never been there himself before, but he’d heard enough from his cousin prior to his excursion back to Iga to know the general direction to go. He had to alter it a bit to get there from Abaven, but he made it all the same in the end. His companions trailed along, his owl companion flying lazy circles in the sky overhead and his antlered fox companion at his heels. Once they arrived, the Genji man wasted no time in raising his head and releasing a call to anyone who wished to fight him.

Takeshi had made leaps and bounds in his efforts to become a good and fitting son and Ashen member. His skills had been honed and his body showed the fruits of his labor, growing hard and lean with muscle. He was a force to be reckoned with already, but it didn’t mean he could be complacent. In fact, it was just the opposite. He felt he needed to strive even further, his need to impress and be accepted by his family sending him, for seemingly the millionth time, up to the battlefield. However, when he got there, the last thing he’d expected to see was his uncle. A grin lit up the yearling’s maw as he strode forward, offering the mottled man a respectful dip of his head. He didn’t have many memories of the Genji man, but the ones he did have were positive. He knew of the reason that had taken his uncle away from Ashen, an endeavor that deserved his respect, so he placed no blame on him.

Raijin certainly hadn’t expected his nephew to show up, but it was a welcome sight nonetheless. While the yearling showed him respect with a bow, ever the proper heir, Raijin swept forward to engulf the yearling, now taller than him, in a burly hug. ”It’s good to see you, Takeshi. You’ve grown into a fine young man I see, intimidating even to me! I have a lot I want to talk to you about, but how about we warm up with a spar first, eh?” he offered, clapping the yearling on the shoulder with a boisterous laugh.

The man turned, heading back a few feet before squaring himself off in front of the large, glowing boy. He was interested to see how far he’d come in his training, no doubt formidable if he were at all like his sire. But, Raijin wasn’t a wimp either by any means. He’d grown up with Hanzo and they’d spent their youths sparring each other, training side by side. Likely any moves the boy threw at him courtesy of his old man, Raijin could toss right back. He allowed the boy the first move with a nod of his sabered head.

His uncle was as boisterous as he remembered, showering him in compliments that made the yearling dip his head in embarrassment. He awkwardly patted the man on the back with a large paw as he engulfed him in a strong hug, though he felt a warmth in his chest. Raijin had always been a comforting figure to him and it seemed now would be no different.

When the other koi man proposed they ‘warm up’ their reunion with a spar, Takeshi had no qualms. He simply replied with a nod of his head and turned to his own spot a few feet away to get ready. Though Takeshi did have a voice now, he still reverted back to his silent ways and sometimes even forgot altogether that he was able to speak. He and his uncle faced each other, the other giving him a nod to let him know that he had the first move. The yearling wasted no time in rushing forward, taking the advantage he was given to swipe alongside the man, his shoulder dipping down to try and knock Raijin’s hind legs out from under him.

To his pleasure, the glowing boy wasted no time in sweeping forward to begin their spar on the offensive. Giving up the first move could make or break a fight, he knew that intrinsically as a diplomat and tactician. Ideally, one would always be able to take the first move in an effort to surprise your foe, but this wasn’t a foe. It was family, and that meant something.

Takeshi swept alongside him, his powerful form bumping against the man’s side sending him sidestepping. The youth lowered his front half, trying to use his body to send his legs out from under him and Raijin grinned. It was a smart move, but one he’d seen before. Raijin lifted a hind leg and planted it on the boy’s muzzle, pushing down in an effort to drive his head into the ground below them.

Takeshi was so sure he’d had it, until he wasn’t. His uncle, ever the perceptive man, saw what he was doing and, in a deft movement, lifted a hind leg to plant it firmly on top of the boy’s muzzle to push downward. The boy strained, trying to keep his face from being slammed into the dirt below. He twisted his head, jaws open as he latched onto the Genji man’s leg and pulled, his bite gentle as to not do any unnecessary damage, but firm enough to try, once again, to pull his leg out from under him and send into into the dirt below just as he’d tried to do to him.
