With a practice raid upon them, Balthier knew he had to get more well practiced. Because of his father, he had always been more keen on hunting rather than fighting. But the need to protect his family was far greater than any of the other skills he could possess. Learning from his father in his youth he grew as a strong hunter, but he was more self taught in the ways of fighting predators. He knew there may come a day where the threat of a wolf would be his biggest problem, even more threatening than a practice raid.

Entering the Battlefield, he stilled to call for an opponent.

"Balthier"

He'd felt the itch to do some more sparring. It was the one thing that still felt right to him in this strange place, and so far he'd had no luck in finding Andromeda, so he figured he may as well make himself useful and improve on his sparring skills. At least that way he could help anyone who was in trouble, as there seemed to be quite a few predators lurking about that weren't afraid of wolves. And so he made his way back to the battlefield, already feeling the drumming in his ears from anticipation. Astrophel heard someone's call for an opponent, and with no hesitation he moved at a brisk pace, swiftly coming upon a similarly sized wolf with the strangest golden markings that drew his attention. He dipped his head in greeting, and offered a quick grin at the other male. "I'll happily spar with you today, sir." His claws dug into the dirt then as he squared his stance, fixing his gaze on his opponent as he waited for the wolf to make the first move.

When someone approached him he wasn't all that surprised that it was a complete stranger to him. He grew up in a large family pack of Abaven, but hadn't reached out into the farther world until recently. He was quite polite and well, a really nice guy. He would have never wished true harm on his opponent unless they deserved it. He'd really need to be pushed though.

"Thank you," he responded with a dip of his head, "My name is Balthier." He waited and allowed the man to prepare himself for the spar, it's only what he would expect in return. Taking a deep breath, he moved forward to close the space between them and only aimed to slam his chest into the man's own in attempt to strike him off balance, his head pivoting to the right side of the man at the same time. He didn't expect to use his teeth in this battle, but he also wasn't opposed to it. He supposed he would find out what was acceptable.

"Balthier"

The other wolf responded kindly in turn, even going as far as to offer up a name which brought a smile to Astrophel's face. It was good to see there were other wolves out there as charismatic and friendly as he tried his best to be. "A good day to you. I'm Astrophel," he said with a warm smile. Balthier gave him ample time to prepare, for which Astrophel was thankful for as he did feel a tad rusty, and then the two wolves were off. His opponent made a direct dash for him, and as they seemed to be of similar build Astrophel gladly met him straight on, feeling the air be pushed out of his lungs as their bodies rammed into each other. Oh, that was a bit more painful than he remembered. He staggered slightly, his momentum carrying him forward even as the force of the shove sent him sideways, but he managed to stay on his feet. Astrophel whipped his body around, baring his teeth even as he felt his lips curl up in a grin. He wasted no time in rushing forward again, wanting to shoulder check the other male in an attempt at a bit of roughhousing. Not all spars needed to be fought with teeth; sometimes brute force was a good tactic too. He wasn't sure about how much experience the brute had before him. Not that he could tell, but his opponent was just a bit older than him though that could have meant nothing. Balthier knew he wasn't well versed in the ways of fighting. He had only watched a few spars from home from the sidelines.

They collided, and Balthier felt the same whoosh over him as the brute did from the impact. The brute faltered slightly but quickly found his footing under him again and came back to Balthier with another bump into his chest from his shoulder. Balthier in response tried to lift up his front left leg and at an angle attempting to grab around the brute's right shoulder and hope that he could use his force to knock him down on his side. They seemed to be playing a fair game and that was okay. Though maybe it wouldn't be so helpful down the road in a real battle.

Astrophel his shoulder connect successfully, but didn't waste time to savour the victory. And a good thing too, as he felt the other male's leg lift up and grab around his right shoulder. They were of similar height and build so it wasn't too much of a reach, but that meant Astrophel was in a bit of danger at being pulled down to the ground. However, as his opponent was now on three legs instead of four he would be easier to unbalance, which may just work on his own favour. With a shove of his skull against his opponents raised leg where it met the shoulder, Astrophel pushed with all his might even as he felt the other wolf try and push him down, hoping to unbalance the other wolf enough and shove him away. He dug his back claws into the sandy ground in an attempt to get more purchase for his shove, but the sandiness of the soil could very be his downfall if he slipped, and then it would be all over for him.
