Now that he was in a new pack, his responsibilities rose. He was no longer just looking after his sister, he had expectations of the pack and the alpha. That was no problem for him though, he grew up with having high expectations or at least just understanding what he needed to do for his pack. Whether that was being a healer, protecting the borders, or filling the stores. He was also quite the jack of all trades just to learn the ways of survival.

Balthier came to the Battlefield to test and tone his skills. When he arrived, he pulled back his head and called gently for an opponent.

"Balthier"

Before long, the koi wolf found himself wandering the region of the battlefield. He didn’t really know it was called that - he didn’t really have an awarenes that the lands here had official names besides those packs. None of which he nor his brother had encountered. Usagi hoped he wouldn’t find trouble with them, but it seemed fair;y easy - just avoid the lands heavily scented with pack. He knew that much based off of information he was given prior to he and Kuroo’s departure from their homeland. This place, however, had a neutral scent to it. Thus, it was safe to venture into. Usagi’s one pointed ear perked curiously as a gentle call floated towards him, and the male approached the yellow-and-black wolf with the interesting markings. He clearly wasn’t a koi - the goldenrod markings were intricate and methodical. Perhals he came from another lineage of swirled wolves, much like koi wolves. The fiery-pelted male cleared his throat, face neutral and void of emotion. "I heard your call," He said, his voice giving away that he wasn’t native to Boreas. He pffered a polite dip of his head and added monotonously, "I can spar with you." The male then proceeded to take a step back, providing space between them and rolling his shoulders, a soft exhale from his lips as he stared his opponent down. He was offering Balthier the first move, as he typically did despite his grouchy nature. He knew better than to let his temper get the best of him with wolves he didn’t know. "Speech"

Balthier knew little about linage in the wolves around him especially those outside of Abaven. So while was labeled not a koi, he wasn't putting any labels on the male before him. That was fine though, the man seemed nice enough. He nodded his head in greeting as the wolf addressed him, "It's a pleasure to meet, my name is Balthier."

Balthier noticed that he was preparing and allowing him the first move and he was okay with that. He did wonder how much more practiced the man was compared to him because he himself really didn't have much experience.

Without anything else to note, Balthier jumped forward and closed the distance between them. His attempted attack was to slam his chest into his opponent's while he opened his jaw to try and bite around the man's right side of his scruff. His bite would not have been hard, only with intent. This wasn't a real battle, and he wasn't expecting it to turn into one.

"Balthier"

The koimwolf pffered a soft nod as the goldenrod-swirled male introduced himself as Balthier. "Usagi," He said himself. He didn’t bother with any formal introduction. Names were all he needed to really know about others besides those he knew well - which were really only his family members. Pleasantries aside, the male had braced himself for the slightly younger boy’s move. He flcused his energy into his opponent, and only his opponent. Nothing else mattered in that moment, because if he lost focus, his physicsl body would pay the price by being put off balance. Usagi still managed to get caught off-guard by the larger wolf’s bulk, and allowed himself to be bowled over. In his position, he’d be smacked backward, and his scruff on his right side clasped in the male’s jaws. He quickly recovered himself, pulled up by Balthier’s bite which wasn’t too hard. Still emotionless, the male recalled his training in Iga - basic, but heavily rigorous. Perhaps he’d apply what he knew here. He wasn’t much to look at compared to his opponent, but power and strength were brimming in his limbs. Without a sound, Usagi aimed to wrench himself from the male’s grip, even if it meant losing a few hairs. He would then aim to launch forward into the male’s crest of his neck with his powerful forelimbs, aiming to pull the male down diagonally to send him off-balance. Worst that could happen was he’d stumble and end up with a pelt covered in hot dust from the dry earth of the sparring grounds. All the while, his breathing was level and even, not even a pant on his lips. Balthier was surprised when the brute pulled back away from him, thinking that had he had a stronger grip on his scruff the man would have suffered worse injuries.

He was a bit stunned as to what to do as the man pulled away from him. Usagi's paws rose up and planted down on Balthier's chest which had certainly thrown him off balance but with a widened stance and a forward motion he was able to hold up strong.

In response, Balthier had attempted to thrust his head forward and into his opponent's chest with the base of his skull, at least in an effort to get the smaller brute off of the higher advantage away from his chest.

"Balthier"

Needless to say, though Usagi felt the fruits of his labor pay off when the larger male swayed, he wasn’t surprised to see him hold his ground. He was lighter, and physics came into play here too - a larger force wasn’t easily dispersed by a smaller one. He’d managed to give way from the scruff bite, but he mentally chided himself on not being able to avoid the initial attack in the first place. Maybe he’d fought too many a wolf more similar to his build. Though his blow had an effect, the male’s skull suddenly thrust itself into his own chest, forcing him away from the swirled wolf’s shoulder. He uttered a soft ‘oof’ under his breath from the impact. He didn’t have a more reinforced build as this guy had, but he’dbeen holding his own so far, or so he’d like to think. With a soft inhale, the male created one quick swoop of his left hind leg, stretched out and allowing it to skim the dirt to create a wall of aggravated dust from the earth. He squinted his gaze and held his breath to avoid inhaling the dust, though its effect would be minimal on both of them. Creating some form of smokescreen, he’d try and use the lessened visibility to whirl towards the large male’s blind side, somewhere back behind his left hind leg, and thrust a quick but firm jab of his hind leg in an effort to throw the male off-balance, this time by encouraging his hind leg to buckle beneath him. Usagi took care not to jab too hard at the spot, but just enough for a surprise that he hoped the male wouldn’t see coming. It wasn’t quite as direct as a blow to the chest, but his move has given some small victories in spars back home.
