Better Late than Never
Manea Family Hello

This visit should have happened long ago, but after the challenge she lost, the world's decent into darkness, the illness that gripped them, and the travel that took far longer than anticipated thanks to the size of the group they had accumulated... It had all caused a lot of set backs for them. Finally they were here at the shore, following the pack scent that matched what she remembered of Chimera's own scent until she was standing on the beach opposite of the island that it looked like was inhabited by the split-toned man's wolves. She brought Alastor with her along with Avacyn and Saracyn. It would be the first time she brought the children along on this kind of outing—well, the first time since they were born at least. She knew that just sitting around the camp got boring and she hoped that perhaps there would be children for them to meet and play with here as well.
They were just a season shy of their first birthdays and that fact baffled her. Time had flown so fast and it just seemed to continue slipping away from her. Once they were standing on the shore next to what seemed like a ferry system of some kind she lifted her muzzle to call for the Fenmyre King. She briefly considered crossing to the island before she called for him, but she felt it would be more respectful to wait and make sure they were welcomed. In the meantime she leaned her head down to give a few swipes of her tongue across the top of Saracyn's head, grooming down a few stray tufts of fur with a little smile.

Alastor was not a happy wolf. His fur had grown back following the loss of it to that cursed bath bomb a season ago—except it hadn't stopped growing back. The dire brute was now sporting a coat of long, luxurious black fur that looked like drapes of silken ebony, only marred by his fiery red markings that had also come back in their same place. His tail dragged across the ground where he walked, cascading like a waterfall of black and red, picking up stray leaves and bits of sand and required constant grooming to keep from knotting. He felt and looked absolutely ridiculous, and even now he continued to curse the firefly demon's name—whatever it might be—for the predicament he was in. Manea had appeared to love his new fur though, despite her initial bouts of laughter when she saw what had happened to his coat. That had been a fun time for his masculinity...
Still feeling ridiculous and far too feminine, Alastor trudged along with his wife to meet the island pack of the southern continent, a despondent scowl painted on his visage. They arrived at the beach and scanned the island just across the sound, the scent of the pack strong even from here. Well, he had to hand it to the Fenmyre alpha, he knew how to pick a good location. Tropical, lush, and easy to defend from would-be invaders. He stood on the dock with Manea and his children, studying the winch and pulley system set up while Manea called for an audience with the alpha she'd mentioned she met once before. Looking between the dock here and the ones on the island, Alastor realized the pulley system was for a ferry. Nudging Manea, he motioned to the ferry, then began to pull the winch, bringing the ferry steadily over to their side of the sound. By the time the alpha answered, they'd have the ferry and they could begin crossing without wasting any time.

Ears flicked forward as the call rang out. Chimera looked up from his bookwork and raised the brow above his milky white eye. He recognized the voice, but it hadn't been one that he'd expect to call upon him. Closing his book, he placed it back on the shelf with the rest. Shaking out his pelt, the massive brute made his way out of the complex and towards the ferry. Taking up the ropes, he sent the ferry to the opposite shore. Once the group of wolves was upon it, Chimera worked to pull the raft across the waters and back to home shore.
As the batch of wolves joined him on shore, the two-toned giant nodded to the adults. "Manea," he rumbled in his typical low tones. "This is a surprise," he admitted. Chimera didn't know what had happened to the purple woman after her loss to the strange, annoying, talkative, generally disagreeable... whatever the other woman had been. He only heard on the wind that she had lost to her somehow. At first he could hardly believe it. Manea had possessed the upper hand the entire time that he had been watching. The other fae must have pulled out some trickery at the end to have won.
Bringing his mismatched gaze to the silken furred brute beside her, Chimera nodded to him as well. "Chimera Klein, King of Fenmyre," he introduced himself. He then gave a nod to the children standing with them. No doubt they would be bored with whatever talk the adults would have so he canted his head, motioning towards the island. "The island is quite safe. Explore if your parents agree. See if you can find my children." The brute brought his gaze back to Manea. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"

There was small bit of a wait before she saw the split toned male arrive on the opposite shore and they watched as he sent the ferry out to receive them. At least they wouldn't need to swim across. If the Alias Island didn't already have the natural land bridge she imagined they would have come up with something similar—though it did make her wonder if they should set up at least a bridge of some kind for when it was high tide... but first they would need to finish building their pack so that they could move back to their preferred home. Once the ferry reached them she and her family climbed onto the platform and then settled back onto her haunches to wait for Chimera to pull them across to where he was waiting.
Stepping onto the island beach, she made her Saracyn and Avacyn made it alright before turning her attention to the Fenmyre King. She returned his nod and offered him a smile at his greeting. "Chimera. It's been far too long," she replied. That was a true statement on all accounts. By all intents and purposes she would have come to visit his pack far sooner if the world hadn't chosen to take a turn for the worst. It did occur to her that perhaps she could have sent one of her ravens to let him know that they would be coming to visit the day before, but she supposed there was no harm in a bit of surprise. Once Chimera and Alastor had introduced themselves the attention briefly turned to the children between them as he invited them to explore and go find his children. Avacyn dutifully looked up to her and Alastor to confirm it was alright, but Saracyn was practically ready to bolt away without hesitation. She chuckled and nodded, waving the twins onward. "Go on, have fun. Behave yourselves." With that the pups went off into the island and she watched them go before returning her attention to their host.
She smiled again at his question, giving a soft chuckle. "Well, I had intended on coming to see this pack of yours quite a while ago, but as you can imagine the state of the world delayed us quite a bit. We had to put our plans on hold until everyone was well again." She hadn't seen any part of Boreas or Auster unaffected by the long night and the plague it brought so she had to assume Chimera and his pack had been effected as well. "Maybe there is somewhere more comfortable we can talk business?"

Alastor waited with his family on the far shore for someone to respond to them. A wolf on the island approached the ferry system he'd noticed and began to send the boat across to them. Once it arrived, Alastor herded the pups (who were more like adolescents now) onto the ferry before hopping on himself with Manea. The wolf on the other shore began to pull the winch to bring them over, but being as there were many of them on the ferry, Alastor also grabbed the pulley on the boat and began to pull with the distant wolf, helping speed up the transit and make it easier on their welcoming committee. Once the ferry hit the opposite dock, Alastor disembarked after Manea and greeted the monochromatic wolf that had helped them across with a polite dip of his head. The wolf greeted Manea by name—so they knew one another—and before he introduced himself, Alastor had sussed out that this was the Fenmyre alpha she'd mentioned speaking to some time ago.
Alastor nodded his head back to Chimera's greeting and introduction. "Alastor Mendacium," he introduced himself, then for rank he gestured to Manea and added, "Whatever she wants me to be." Chimera greeted their children next and permitted them to roam the island. Alastor nodded to a patiently waiting Avacyn and a barely contained Saracyn, ushering them off with a gentle nudge of a black paw. "Go on, go have fun! And don't play too rough!" Once the children had gone on about their way, Alastor stood quietly to the side and observed the tropical island and their hulking host that matched him in size and musculature. He seemed the type fit to be a king, that was certain. He allowed Manea to do most of the speaking for them since these were her affairs for the most part. If he had something to say or contribute, he would.

With introductions made and the children off running amok, Chimera motioned for the pair to follow. He led Manea and Alastor through the jungle at the edge of the island. The wildlife thrummed around them as they took the well worn path. At the very edge of the jungle where greenery met sand, there was a wide gazebo that was still in very good condition. It offered protection from the sun but still allowed the sweet, salty breeze to dance through the space. The benches encircling the edges were thick thatch and had weathered time well. Chimera chose to seat himself upon the smooth wooden floor, however.
Once they were all settled, Chimera visually inspected both Manea and her mate. "You and your family seem to have weathered the endless night well," he observed. Their children had been lively and looked whole as well, though that didn't say much. Both Albion and Cerberus looked as though they had never been sick. Scylla was the only one with the marks of a wound upon her, though that would heal in time as well.
The two-toned brute then arched a speckled brow. "Business, you say?" He imagined that could only mean talk of an alliance or that Manea and her band needed something from him. Either way, both tall ears flicked forward and he listened to what the pair had to say.

Manea followed behind Chimera alongside Alastor as the Fenmyre king brought them into the island, her aqua gaze looking through the tropical jungle curiously. It was a very pretty locale to visit, but she didn't think that they could live permanently in this kind of climate—especially not with Alastor's new long, fluffy fur. He already had a naturally thick coat to begin with, but now he most certainly would want a cooler, drier climate than this. They didn't walk too far before Chimera brought them to a gazebo at the edge of the forest that over looked the shore and she looked around appreciatively as she followed him in and settled on the floor on other side of the gazebo across from him. Yes, she could see herself coming back to visit from time to time, but their island in the north east would better suit them for a permanent home.
She gave a nod when he mentioned that they seemed to have faired well though the Long Night, giving a glance to Alastor with a small smile at the corners of her lips. Some of them were more effected by it than others—Alastor being one of them—but they had made it to the other side in one piece. "Yes, we were lucky that only Alastor and Avacyn were affected by the strange illnesses that went around, but it's never easy seeing my family suffer regardless." She turned her full attention back to Chimera and added, "I hope you and yours faired just as well." She had gotten the sense during her travels and conversations that the endless night had affected everyone slightly differently and she hoped that Chimera and his family hadn't struggled with it too much.
When the King opened the discussion to the mention of business she nodded again, giving a small smile. "Well, as you know, my plans to claim a pack for my own fell through unexpectedly, but since then I have led a band made up of my family and followers. I've decided to build my own pack from that at some point in the hopefully not to distant future and claim an island to the north east." Her tail curled neatly around her haunches while she spoke, speaking easily and confidently. "I don't want to go as far as to ask for an alliance from you before we truly get to know each other and I have my pack set up in earnest, but I did want to at least see about a friendship and perhaps a chance to build the skills of both of our wolves." She gave Chimera a curious look, wondering what he would think of the idea. "I'd like to hold a raid on your pack to give my wolves a chance to face some real fights. Many of them have only been nomads or are still fairly novice at fighting so it would be good to get some experience under their paws before we formally form our pack."

Alastor dipped his head respectfully to the alpha when he graciously invited them in for further discussions. He followed alongside Manea as Chimera led them to a gazebo, also finding a seat on the smooth wooden floor instead of the small weathered benches. While his mate discussed diplomatic pack shit, Alastor contended himself to idly listen in passing while he enjoyed the cool salty sea breeze. Auster was much too hot for his liking with his thick, plush fur coat, but the coolness of their winter season did make it more bearable. Still, he longed for the colder climates of the north and of Alias Island. He didn't have much to add in the way of discussion, so he simply let Manea handle the conversation or now, propositioning Fenmyre for the practice raid with Elysium while he kept his eyes out and surveying their environment. He smelled a number of wolves, most of them faes, and silently wondered what this tropical pack was founded on.

Chimera didn't say much since he wasn't naturally the talkative sort. It seemed that Manea's man was of a similar mind, as he said nothing at all. He remained silent even when she spoke of the night illness having affected him. In turn, she expressed her hopes that his family had fared well. They had and they hadn't. No one had died, but his pups had come close. He didn't want to get into it, so the brute merely nodded.
Talk shifted to the business at hand. Manea was planning to turn her band into a pack and would claim an island like his, only one in a colder clime. "Good choice," he rumbled. Islands were more easily fortified than land locked territories. That was part of the reason that he'd chosen this place. Siren's delicate sensibilities and her small herd of deer had been the deciding factor, however.
Manea suggested a practice raid to bolster the skills of their wolves. Chimera mulled the idea over for a while, but eventually nodded. "I accept." He then laid out his only rule. "No maiming." Cerberus would be participating as the boy was now old enough. He wouldn't have his son damaged during his first battle. "We'll be ready when you are."
