Ulmaria slunk down low in the grasses of the knolls. There was an enemy invasion around the den site and she had to do her best to protect Pop and his siblings. Her belly dragged on the ground as she did her best to creep forward toward the badger that was digging a hole. She could see his rump just wiggling there like a perfect target. She scampered forward and bit down hard. The badger scrambled back, nearly running her over. It snarled and twisted around to face her. Oops… "Ahhhhhhhh!" She yelled as she turned take and ran. The badger gave chase only a short distance before returning back to its digging with a huff.

Maybe Ulmaria should stick to sparring her siblings for now.

Omen was off doing her own thing. There had been a spate of drama lately and she wasn't sure how to deal with any of it. Though she didn't know any of the dead well, the effects of those losses continued to ripple through Fireside. The latest casualty, an auntie name Alfrun, had left a large brood motherless. There was also something about a cousin who had lost a litter and yet another motherless brood found abroad somewhere? She didn't know many details. What she did know was there some members of her family were quite somber just now and her grandpa wandered by occasionally with a pup dangling from his jaws.

Honestly she was a bit jealous of all the attention her grandpa was giving the other pups. She was here first! But anyway, she wasn't about to go begging for his attention. Or anyone else's for that matter. No, she was just going to lay here and chew on her bone. To heck with everyone else.

Ulmaria slunk away from the badger's den, keen to find something else to do. That hadn't gone at all the way she wanted it too. When she was bigger she'd show that badger who was boss! Ulmaria's ears twitched at the sound of teeth on bone. She quickly ducked in the grass. What if it was a coyote or a hyena? She crept through the grass in the direction of the sound, scooting her belly along the dirt until she spied the source of the sound. Another pup was chewing on the bone. Her head popped up over the grass. "Hey! Did you catch that by yourself? Are you a fighter? Can you beat up badgers?" She shot the rapid fire questions at the other girl as she waddled through the grass and over to the unknown pack mate.

Omen's teeth grinding on the bone was loud enough to drown out the sound of Ulmaria's approach so she was caught completely off guard when the peppering of questions began. The little witch jumped and very nearly yelped but managed to bite back the sound in the nick of time - which was to Ulmaria's benefit as Omen would have been a let less nice if she had embarrassed herself with a squeal.

She scowled at Ulmaria and haughtily smoothed down her ruffled fur. "No, I can't beat up badgers," she said as though the question was the silliest thing she'd heard all day. "Short little puppies, though?" Omen fixed Ulmaria with a smirk and began to slink towards her with devilish intent. That fright couldn't go unanswered; a little payback was in order. "You know, it's not nice to sneak up on strangers. If you scare them they might just decide to tickle you until you pee!"

Omen pounced through the grass and sought to wrap her arms around Ulmaria's neck. The goal was to wrestle her to the ground where, oh yes, she fully intended to tickle the girl until she peed. To anyone older it might have been an innocent thing, but Omen was serious.  Being tickled until she peed - for Omen - would be embarrassing and that seemed like a nice little bit of revenge for being frightened.

Ulmaria grinned as she noticed the older girl jump but she made no comment on it, just watched curiously as the older girl replied and then smirked, stating that she couldn't beat up badgers. Boo… how was she ever going to get revenge on that pesky badger. At the mention of short puppies she stood up straight, taking a few steps back as Omen approached her. Her ears flicked back. Tickle her until she peed? Oh no! Before she could run Omen sprang forward and wrapped her arms around Ulmaria's neck. Ulmaria fell over from the other girl's weight and she squealed in surprise, kicking out her hind legs to try and nail Omen in the gut so maybe she could squirm away. She didn't want to peeeeee!
