the prince and the scavenger
Levi <3
Sneaking away was beginning to become his strongest skill, and he couldn't help himself from wandering away from the familiar territories of the barn and the knolls. There was a big wide world out there, and he wanted to see it all. Well.. experience it all. Navigating the immense world that seemed to stretch for ages wasn't that much more difficult without sight, as he tended to rely more on his hearing and smell to guide his path. By the time he'd been able to hear the sound of rushing water, it still wouldn't have been in sight for most wolves. He simply followed the sound of the massive river cutting through the landscape, until the heady stink of fish finally found its way into his nose. The midday sun beat down on his back, turning his slate and ebony fur iridescent as an oil slick. He was warm and happy, and surrounded by the sounds of teeming life. The steady rush of vast volumes of water rose to a near deafening crescendo, and his dainty paws began to squelch loudly in the sucking mud along the inner bank of the river. A delighted, high pitched giggle escaped his jaws. Gleefully stomping about in the muck, he didn't have a care in the world about his surroundings. When one paw slipped into the chilly waters, he paused for only a second. Oh, the mud was even thinner under the water. Dropping into a play bow, his chest landed firmly in the thick mud. The boy busied himself with slapping at the tide that lapped at the edge of the banks. The brackish water smelled like fish and plants and decay, and he was loving every second of splashing about in the muddy, silty water. "" |
And that just wouldn't do. Stomping his way over, Levi wondered why they didn't turn to look at him. Instead he noticed their nose twitch, ears flick as though those were they only senses they had at paw. Which couldn't be the case, they had eyes right there settled in their skull.
"What are you doing?" He asked, his tone accusatory, in a puppyish: I must know everything right here and now sort of way.
While he could hear the light pawsteps that made their way over towards the bank, he wasn't interested in them. No, the fun splash and spray of brackish water against his face and chest was far more entertaining. It took the harsh, accusing tone of a fellow child over his shoulder to draw his attention away from his game. The dark furred Saxe boy paused, but didn't lift his front half up off the ground quite yet. His ears swiveled towards the source of the sound, trying to figure out where the other boy was standing. He knew the sounds of puppy voices, and he knew the muted scents they carried by now. There were all of his siblings to make sure he was well versed in those intricate details. He swung his dainty skull around in the direction it seemed like the other boy was standing, behind him and to the left. "Splashing!" he crowed with delight, a delighted grin splitting his maw. Then he lurched to his paws and danced in a little quarter turn so he was better positioned to face the unfamiliar youngster. "Do you wanna splash, too?" lilting vocals escaped in reedy tones that expressed both delight and curiosity. He was dripping with muddy water from belly to chin, and he was having a great time of it. He idly flexed his toes in the mud, eliciting gross squelching sounds as he did that brought him immeasurable glee. "" |
