Technically she wasn't supposed to be here, but Scylla marched to the beat of her own drum. If you told her that she wasn't supposed to do something, she would figure out your reasoning, then would do her best to combat that reasoning, justifying why she had to do that something instead. In this case, she had to go outside of Fenmyre territory because, if she didn't, she'd never learn anything about the world.

The small girl picked along the tide pools, reaching her odd little paws into the water to grasp at stranded fish and crustaceans. She didn't want to eat them, but she definitely wanted to touch them. A low growl from behind pulled the slate and white child and she turned, mismatched eyes flashing wide for but a moment. There was a lion there, staring hard at her as though she would be its next meal. The girl drew her serpentine knife from its sheath and pointed it at the cat. "Don't even think about it, buddy." She tried to sound threatening. Didn't work. The lion rushed her and Scylla sighed.

Birna crunched away on a seagull she'd managed to snare while digging for clams. She was glad for the larger, warmer meal and spat out a few feathers as she ate. She rested beneath a large log that had been deposited by the tide at some point. It was the best she could find for shelter here. Birna was just licking the blood off her paws when a shift in the wind brought the scent of lion. Uh oh… she rarely had good encounters with lions and was almost certain conflict would break out.

Birna slipped out from her shelter, seeking at first to sneak out of the terra when she spied a lion heading for a young wolf. Well… she had been wanting to practice her fighting skills and she had a particular distaste for male lions. As the lion sprang toward the pup Birna launched herself forward. She slammed into the hindquarters of the lion, her claws digging into either thigh as her fangs sank into his back above the tail. He whipped around trying to get at her, eventually forcing her to let go.


Speech

The lion rushed her and Scylla danced away from it, keeping the tide pool between herself and the maned cat. Much to her surprise, a second cat showed up. A huge leopard approached and the girl mentally sighed. Surely the cats would team up, right? They were cats! However, the leopard leaped onto the lions haunches and Scylla whooped her appreciation aloud, praising her good luck. The lion spun to face the larger threat and the leopard was dislodged from its perch upon the tawny beasts back. Scylla took the opportunity to sneak forward and sink her serpentine knife into the thigh of the lion. The feline roared in pain and swung about, but the girl had already begun running back to put the tide pool between them again.

Birna scrambled back and out of the way of the lion, just barely avoiding the brunt of his paws as his claws grazed her left cheek, drawing blood but thankfully not causing serious lacerations. She was faster than he and would need to keep on her toes to win this fight. The lion's attention turned to the pup who scrambled to the other side of a tide pool. Seeing an opportunity Birna raced forward and slammed her chest into the lion's rear, her right paw reaching around the front of the lion's right knee, claws digging into the inside of the leg as she pulled. The maneuver coordinated with her chest slam caused the lion to topple into the tide pool.


Speech

The leopard slammed into the distracted lion, sending it head first into the tide pool. Scylla laughed aloud, mismatched eyes going wide as she watched the big cat splash and splutter. What could she do while the lion was in the water... OH! Scylla began picking up rocks, throwing them at the dog-paddling lion, probably doing nothing more than making it even more angry. The tide pool was beginning to run red with the lion's blood. As it neared the edge of the pool, the young pup skittered to the opposite side, keeping herself safe. She watched as the bleeding lion pulled its soaked body out of the pool and began to stagger away, a growl on its lips. The girl looked down to the sheath upon her foreleg, sliding the blade home, then looked back towards the leopard. "That was great! You're so good at fighting!" The child smiled and wagged her long tail. "I'm Scylla Klein." She then looked at the leopard expectantly, wanting her name in turn.

The lion flailed in the tide pool, startled by not only the water but the pain as it stepped on an urchin in its effort to climb out. Birna tensed, ears back and eyes keen as she watched the lion. Should it attempt to get out on her side she was ready to swipe her claws across its face. Instead the lion swamp to the opposite end, snarling as the pup threw rocks at it, drawing a chuckle from the leopard's maw.

Once the lion emerged it stumbled off, deciding the duo was not worth the trouble. Birna slowly relaxed and turned her attention the young girl. She smiled gently. "You are as well. Very brave." The girl introduced herself as Scylla Klein. "My name is Birna. Just Birna." She'd never had a surname as far as she was aware. That seemed to be something more common in packs and prides. Which made sense she supposed.
