Fern had decided to go explore the nearby creek today. She had left early, the warm rain unable to damper her spirits today. Swiftly, she makes her way toward her intended destination, purpose in her every step. Rudy has been busy and the gray girl does not want to be in his way, so Fern had tasked herself finding something useful to do. That is how girl had decided to try and get some hunting in today. Sure, she doesn’t have the brute strength to take down a big animal by herself but maybe she can catch some birds! As the thought crosses her mind, the scent of gazelles reaches her nose. Paw steps slow as her hunting instincts kick in.

Nose twitches as follows the scent, the rain working to cover their scent as well as her own. Lucky, she finds them by the creeks edge, the herd seems to have stopped to drink and graze on the long grass here. Moving behind a large sycamore tree, Fern scans the group, looking for a straggler to target. Hopefully someone will come along to help her score a good meal.

Vanille had never really called a place home in the last few months, and her only goals these days were to hunt and survive. Energy was low while she wasn't keeping up with the food she needed, and she needed food in order to get the energy to make hunting trips at all. It was a viscous cycle. But still, she managed.

Moving ahead, she also caught the scent of gazelle nearby but she wouldn't have wandered off for the catch had she not seen someone already in suit. It was a young woman, easier to approach at least. She quietly went to join her in her cover, paws showing experience in their silent steps. She whispered in the most hushed tone, "Mind a little help?" A gently smile on her face, she certainly wasn't here to fight over a meal at least.

Luckily, Fern doesn’t have to wait long as a speckled wolf soon appears next to her. Gray head turns to look at the other wolf and Fern dips her skull in agreement, offering the lady a smile. The gray girl says, “Yes please.” Looking back out over the herd, the gray girl points out a huge sycamore tree off to the right, saying, “I will go hid behind that tree. Try to drive a couple of them over toward me and we can both have one. Just be careful.” Waiting for the wolf to give her approval, Fern then sets off to quietly make her way to the ambush spot. Hunkering down behind the tree, she flicks her ocean-hued gaze over to where the speckled wolf is and waits for her to kick off the chase.

Vanille listened intently to what the girl had to say and simply nodded her head in acceptance. She watched her movements through the brush as she moved across the way and prepared for the chase after the gazelle. Once she knew she was in position, she started to work up her stamina before bolting straight for the hunt. As she moved forward she struggled to drive two of them over herself. She had been on her own for quite some time but was pretty weak from the lack of full meals she had in that time frame. She still managed to move the two gazelle in the girl's direction. She hoped she would catch on quickly so they could get it over with.

Fern hunkers down behind the tree, ocean-hued eyes watching the herd. The smaller, slimmer wolf kicks off the hunt and the gray girl watches. Her companion struggles to herd the gazelles toward her so Fern slowly creeps closer to the trio’s path. When the two gazelles are within striking distance, the gray girl leaps up from the thick underbrush and cripples the first of pair. It goes down with a grunt, eyes wide with fear as it screams in pain. Only pausing a moment, Fern says, “End this one’s life and it is yours!” The second gazelle has leaped past them, trying to put distance between its self and the hungry wolves.

Quickly, the gray girl wheels around to give chase, strong, nimble legs able to close the distance with ease. Leaping at the gazelle’s back left leg, Fern sinks her teeth into the soft tissue and rips apart the tendon underneath. The creature cries out, toppling hard to the ground and the gray wolf steps quickly to its throat to humanely end the animal’s life. Once its life blood coats the ground and the body has stilled, Fern moves around behind its head to grip the creature’s skull. Carefully, she hauls the gazelle back to her hunting partner’s kill, wanting to share the thrill of the hunt and to sneak the smaller wolf some of her own kill when she isn’t looking.

The girl was more generous than Vanille could have anticipated, not only noticing that she was struggling to keep up but not so blunt on how much she slacked. She weakened one of the gazelles and quickly moved onto her own, telling Vanille that she could have the one that was already down. The young blue girl wasted no time in putting it out of its misery, heading straight forward and taking it at the throat. She looked up with a smile and a wag of her tail as the girl joined her again, more grateful than she could express. The grey woman was a very kind stranger to her.

Fern drags her gazelle back to feast with the stranger, a smile appearing on her light lips as she drops her own kill close to the blue and white wolf. Darting her tongue out to lick the blood off her lips, the gray girl then says, “You are a great chaser. I would hunt with you any day!” The smile that appears is warm and genuine as she looks at the two downed gazelles. Flicking her ocean-hued gaze back up to the new wolf’s face, she says, “My name is Fern. Do you live around here?” As she listens to blue and white girl’s response as she ducks her head down toward her gazelle and bites off a small chunk to eat.
