The bright afternoon sun shines over the land, illumining the stone ruins in the autumn sunlight. While it is cloudless day, the weather is deceptive, hiding the chill that clings to the air. Birds call to each from their perches on the ruins, making plans amongst themselves for the winter that is soon to arrive. Flowers are being to wither on their stalks, preparing to hibernate for the cold months but there are still some bright blooms here and there as they put on one last show before they sleep. A brown-gray wolf meanders through the landscape, eyes searching for something in particular.

Eulogy weaves her way through the stones, scanning the plants she passes. Her life has recently changed, the passing of her mother had hurt but it had also helped the aging woman realize what is important things in the world. The years may not have been kind to her, she might have been more absent then present, but she has made a vow to herself to start living… now. No longer will she hide away in the shadows, allowing the world to pass her by. Rhythm had helped her see the truth, helped heal her broken heart and now, she wants to make amends.

A breeze kicks up and the chilly air to makes the aches in her body more pronounced but, in spite of all the pain, Eulogy feels alive. She knows, if she was dead, that she would not be able to enjoy the day, the sights or her family. Which brings her back to the plan. Dark paws stop before some bright red flowers and Eulogy leans in to sniff at the blooms. The scent is sweet but not quite what she is looking for. So, she moves on, looking for the perfect bunch of flowers to take to Void and his family. The news of grandpups had reached her ears and she now has been the chance to go visit them.

She knows that the flowers won’t survive the long journey by themselves, which is why she has brought a small pot to transplant them into. The leather satchel hanging around her neck, carrying the precious clay pot within its padded depths. Now she just needs to find the find the perfect flowers to take.

The shift in dynamic and the possibilities of the new future in front of her left her head spinning, but she was at least attempting to take it one uncertain step at a time. Merrick had instructed her to get to know more of the pack and be social so that was what she was attempting to do. She had seen that the pack had a garden of sorts, but the pack had a distinct lack of healers so there weren't many in the pack that cared to maintain it. It seemed like only Manea's woman Irilyth had been working on it and while she had been doing a fine job Keelin saw an opportunity to make herself useful. She was nothing if not resourceful and adaptable. She walked out toward the near by territories in search of some hardy plants that might be able to survive the quickly approaching winter chill. She wasn't entirely sure what she was looking for just yet since she didn't know the area very well, but she could say she attempted something today and even if she came back empty handed it could at least be a point of conversation with Irilyth next time they crossed paths.

She carried a pot with her since she would likely need something to put the plant in to keep the roots from getting damaged on her way back to the island, putting the pot in a sling of fabric to make it a bit easier to carry. She was still getting used to being so out in the open and on stable ground all of the time. After a couple of years of being on the ship with only short trips allowed onto the shore she had gotten used to the movement and the tight spaces of the ship they lived on. Being out here almost felt too open and made her more cautious as she walked through the dilapidated stone monuments. It also wasn't often that she went this far out without Merrick, but she supposed she ought to get used to this sooner rather than later. It seemed like he was pretty set on living here for the long term and didn't have any plans of going back to their previous life. This was her new normal so it wouldn't do her any good to be this jumpy every time she turned a corner.

The scent of a stranger makes her pause with just such nervousness and she looks up from her search to find its source, peeking around the corner of one of the pillars to spot a woman who also seemed to be examining the flowers that grew around the edges of the ruins. She seemed to be a bit older and certainly wasn't from Elysium, but she did almost match her in height which seemed to be a rare thing after living around the Mendacium wolves who all favored very tall heights. Keelin watched the stranger for a few more moments, trying to decide if she should sneak away while she still could or if she should just suck it up and brave the interaction. If nothing else it would be a practice in socializing since Merrick seemed to be pushing her toward doing that more frequently.

With a small sigh to set her nerves, Keelin walked out from behind her hiding place that was maybe a dozen feet away from where the other woman was standing and approached her, giving the other woman a gentle smile. As she got a bit closer she began to notice the scars that peeked out through the lady's cool-toned coat and it made her look at the stranger with a bit more curiosity. Keelin had worn scars all across her body for most of her life, but she didn't often see scars like hers on anyone else besides fellow slaves. "Hello," she greeted as she approached her, giving her a small dip of her head, the sling tossed around her swaying gently with the movement. "I noticed you were looking at the plants around here and I just happened to be doing the same thing so I thought maybe we could work together." Surely two sets of eyes were better than one, right?

It has been sometime since Eulogy has left Abaven pack lands and she finds her mind wandering. When she leans in to smell another cluster of flowers, a voice calls out to her and she lifts her head to spy a cream and tan beauty moving toward her. Her heart goes out to the lady who has scars littering her body, which remind Eulogy of her own and the dark time spent as a slave. The new wolf’s nervousness does not go unnoticed and, when she speaks up, the older woman dips her head in acknowledgement while offering a warm smile. Warmly, Eulogy beckons the lady closer, telling her, “That sounds like a splendid idea. Besides, I could use some company.” Eulogy waits for the scarred lady to join her, a warm smile on her lips, before slowly moving on from the cluster of flowers.

As her blue eyes continuing to searching for the perfect flower, Eulogy speaks up, making sure to keep her voice is gentle and kind, “My name is Eulogy. I am out here looking some flowers to transplant. You see, I am going to visit one of my sons. He and his family had pups back in spring and… well, I want to take them something pretty.” A weak smile passes over her lips as she glances down at her paws, letting sadness and longing play across her features before regaining her composure. Truthfully, she feels like she has to make it up to children for all the years she spent away, for the scars she got for being a slave and the time she has spent sequestered away trying to heal her broken mind and spirit. Ah, but time moves on and, while she has to live with her regrets, she can also try to build a better future.

Eyes finally move up off her paws to look over at the pretty, scarred lady. With a soft smile, Eulogy asks, “What about you? What are you out here looking for?” She has some rudimentary knowledge of herbs and plants, her time spent as a slave had seen much use for the healing arts. Hm, even in the darkest times of her life, she had found something useful. Maybe… that time hadn’t been a complete waste. At the very least, the knowledge might be able to help her find the plant or plants this lady is for. And, in return, the lady might be able to help her pick out the best flowers for her family.
