Starting From The Bottom

Who in the hell left something like this out in the open for anyone to fall victim to? Cirrus had just been walking along, minding her own business. The next thing she knew, she was seated at the bottom of a pitfall. A mighty deep one at that. She was gods damned lucky that she hadn't broken a leg. Instead, she'd only gotten a bit muddy from her landing. Thanks to the cold winter rain that would eventually turn the snow, the bottom of the pit was thick with mud. Pale paws disappeared beneath the layer of muck and Cirrus growled, mismatched eyes turned upwards towards the top of the pit.
Why didn't she just jump out? Nice question, Einstein. You see, Cirrus was small. Like really small. There was no way in hell that she could jump up and out of such a pit. Was it dug by freaking giants? There was only one root sticking out of the dirt wall but it was pretty high up. She probably could have tried to dug out divots for footholds, but she hadn't thought that far just yet. Root first.
The woman's tiny rump wiggled as she bunched her muscled and prepared to jump up in the hopes of grabbing the root and scuttling to the surface. The sucking mud held her back and she didn't get a clean jump. Teeth latched on the edge of the root and she hunt there for just a minute, all of her legs scrabbling at the dirt wall. Then the root snapped and she was falling backwards, slow motion Mufasa style (you know what I'm talkin' about.) The woman slammed on her back in the mud, the wet earth covering every little bit of alabaster fur until she looked like a four legged pile of shit.
Rolling to her paws, Cirrus looked at the disgusting muck covering her body. Once again she looked up towards freedom. Then she sat down hard in the mud, threw her head back and yelled for all to hear, "FUCK!"

Etoile really had no idea where she was going or what she was doing, but at least now the yearling was starting to accept that. Since leaving home her options had always been go back, join a new pack, or explore the world, and not wanting to go back or settle down somewhere new only left the last option, exploration, so she really was going to have to grow comfortable with the plan being there is no plan at some point or another. "This place seems... nice.." she spoke to herself, eyeing perhaps the biggest snake carcass she'd ever seen lounging a comfortable distance away. Were there really snakes that big around here? "FUCK!" "Hmmm..." the starry fae trotted over to where she'd heard the scream of displeasure and almost damn near fell into the hole herself. It was a decent sized pit, and at the bottom of it was a black and white female who appeared to be even smaller than herself. "Oh, that's unfortunate.. Are you okay?" "Talk" 'Think' |

The young woman was still growling and muttering to herself when a voice from above caught her attention. Cirrus looked up, but there was mud sticking to her lashes. One paw raised and swiped at her face, but there was mud on her paw as well so it was useless. Giving her small body a shake, mud went every which way and her fur stood on end. With one eye squinted, the little mud wolf looked upward. "A little help, maybe?"
As Cirrus waited, a bit of mud got in her nose and she sneezed so powerfully that she sat right on her ass in the mud. Not that it mattered since she was so muddy that you couldn't see one square inch of her pretty coat. Another little growl pulled from her and she looked upwards towards the mouth of the pit once more. What was taking this girl so long? She wanted to get out of this hell hold some time this century. "If you can't figure it out yourself, could you go get help?" There had to be a vine or a log or something that could be pushed in the hole to help her out. She'd try anything at this point.

"Uhhmmmm..." Etoile looked around for something that could help the girl get out. If only she was one of those huge wolves that seemed to live sporadically across these lands, she'd likely be able to just jump right on in, grab the girl, and jump right on out again. Shame that it was another small wolf that stumbled across this mess. The Soleil's face scrunched a bit as the stranger mentioned going to get help. Yeaahh, unless there was a pack nearby that wasn't a likely scenario. Etoile knew like.. a grand total of three others that lived on these lands, and who the hell knew where they were right now. "I have an idea... ugh, ick." the yearling grimaced. "Hold on." The fae trotted over to that huge snake carcass she'd laid eyes on earlier and began dragging it back to the hole. It had been dead for a number of days, but not so long that rot had really begun to set in and make it weak. With any luck it'd hold up long enough to assist the pair. "So, I've got this huge dead snake. I'm gonna throw it over now and maybe you can climb it or I can pull you up. Okay?" It was the only idea she could come up with, so surely it was an idea worth trying. Even if it was gross. Picking the snake up by the head, Etoile flung the body down into the hole. "Oka', go ahea!"
