The wedding had been spectacular, the feast extraordinary but Fern was excited for what was to come. She sits with Rudyard, fidgeting in nervous excitement, nibbling at some food while waiting for the tournament brackets to be announced. When Artorias finally calls the start of the fighting tournament, the gray girl wags her tail and leans into Rudy’s side, drawing strength from his presence. Her opponent is announced and the gray girl’s eyes light up with happiness as she realizes that she will get face off with Basilisk. Once the announcement is finished, she leans in toward Rudyard and gives him a kiss, saying, “Good luck Rudy. See you on the other side.” Her tail wags as she stands and trots off.

It doesn’t take long to get to the training ground, the familiar sight of the arenas bringing her comfort. Fern files into her ring and turns to square up with the huge (and I mean HUGE) pup. Before they begin, she offers him a huge smile and says, “Good luck Basilisk! Don’t hold back, you got this.” With that she gives him a wink before quickly setting her defenses. Once the pup is ready, Fern rushes toward him, rushing straight for his chest. At the last possible moment, she turns her paws to draw her toward the pup’s left side, aiming a bite at his enormous front paw. She hopes to keep Basilisk on the defensive and does not stop, instead working to try and keep her momentum going and legs churning.

"Fern Lark"

Basilisk was all but bouncing on the spot with nerves. In fact, he would have been bouncing and fidgeting if he wasn’t certain Azure was keeping an eye on him. Disappointing his father was… not on his agender. Not now, and hopefully not ever. When the brackets were called, he was surprised to realise he recognised the name of his opponent. Uh-oh. They hadn;t put him against another wolf near his age, they had put him against a fully fledged adult. Someone who was wise and experienced.

He steeled himself and stepped into the ring. Fern greeted him with fondness and kind words, but other than a quick, short smile in answer, his face was mostly blank. He didn’t have enough room with his nerves to answer her back. This was his first tourney, and his father was watching.

Basilisk set his defences, and Fern came at him. Moving quickly as she charged at the pup, and then darted to the side. She lowered her head to attack his paw, and he leaned forward. Attempting to graze his fangs across the top of her head as she struck at him. Her teeth bit at his paw. A quick grab and release. As she continued on, he turned with her. Keeping her in front of him.

"Speech"

Their fight begins and Fern rushes toward the huge pup, feinting to his side and aiming a bite at his paw. She feels Basilisk’s fangs graze the top of head as she pinches one of his toes and she releases her hold quickly. The bite was meant to give him a small amount but no more, maybe leaving a tiny bruise but nothing else. Legs keep her moving along the pup’s side and Basilisk turns with her as she runs so that, when she spins around, Fern is once more face to face (okay ankle) with Basilisk.

A huge smile appears and Fern once more rushes toward him. Once close enough, the gray girl will not feint to the side this time, instead crouching low to spring up toward the pup’s neck. Her hope is to catch the pup off guard and send him stumbling over his own paws. Maybe she can use gravity to her advantage and pin the huge pup. Let’s face it, that is the only way she will be able to bring Basilisk down.

"Fern Lark"

She came at him again, and fell back into his defences. Repetition had made it second nature as he evened out his weight. When she struck, he expected her to do something similar a second time. Go for a hit, and keep going. So when she didn’t move to the side, but instead leaped straight into him, he startled.

Her teeth clamped onto his neck, and using a page from his Grandad's book, he rocked his weight forward. Leaning into the other wolf as he attempted to wrap his paws about her shoulders in a bear hug. His teeth going for the back of her neck at the same time.
