Strix wanders along the beach of the family’s island, mismatched eyes looking to distant shore of the dam. How he longs to go and explore. Sure, the island is great but there are only so many times he can dissect rabbits and fish. Over there is where all the fun animals live! Huffing in annoyance at himself, the pup turns his back on the land beyond his home and moves toward the compounded. He grumbles to himself as he goes, mostly about how unfair it is that he is stuck here but he also intersperses how much he hates being short.

A sound pulls his attention off his petty grievances and toward the beach to his right. Ears, perk and Strix moves to find the source of this strange new sound. Hunkering down in the grass as he goes, the sight of a huge grizzly bear soon greets the pup. It has stopped to shake the water out its fur. A smile appears on his lips as the pup watches the bear, already making plans on how to attack it. Suddenly, Strix bursts from hiding spot and rushes toward the grizzly. A snarl rips itself from his throat as the pup rushes in, using his smaller size to weave around legs and under the bear’s stomach. He delivers a quick bite to a back paw before racing away, the grizzly bellowing in anger at his retreating form.


"Strix Klein"

Quill had grown very used to the land surrounding the resort building that he and his family resided in. He got out any chance he got and with age it was more frequently rewarded. He had gone to Aspen with the rest of his family, but he was dying to go out there on his own in due time. He was certainly too eager to contain it but the only sneaking way to get there was to swim across the ocean to the mainland and that... well he wasn't dumb enough to do that.

He was just out on a usual stroll, hoping to find something to peak his interest but it did take a lot. Usually he'd find a way to bother his brothers or whatever unlucky soul came across him like that poor white girl he cut with a knife. Well, he didn't do it. He just had her dig them back up. It wasn't like he was playing darts with her as the target. His ears perked as he heard the familiar sound of his brother snarling very close by which was kind of unusual and there was a sense of worry when he heard it. He liked to beat them up, he didn't want any one else to though.

As he peered through the brush he was immediately taken aback as he saw Strix facing off with a grizzly bear. Was he dumb? Quill howled for the help of the many mastiffs that were here on the island, there was no way the two of them could take care of this thing themselves. He jumped forward, slamming his lengthy growing body into the bear with a smack before backing up to join beside his brother, "Are you crazy?" He asked in a near scolding tone to him. Quill liked to act pretty high and mighty, he wouldn't have just jumped onto a bear though. The dogs would be here for their back up soon.

"Quill Klein"

The boy of clouded grays and black snarls at the bear as he works to drive it from their shores. A howl for help rings out and he spies his taller brother, Quill, arriving to slams his body into the bear’s side. Strix glowers at his brother as the boy of light grays and white joins him… only to call the smaller boy crazy in a scolding tone. He scoffs angerly as he shoots his brother an annoyed glance, all the times Quill has bullied him coming to the forefront of his mind. The boy of black and grays snaps out, “At least I am trying to defend our home.” With a glare and snort of disapproval,  Strix rushes in toward the angry grizzly once more, finding he prefers its company over that of his bullying sibling.

Yes, he is smaller than all his littermates and, because of that, Strix has always felt like the odd-man-out… and Quill has always seemed the right buttons push. Pushing his brother from his mind, the smaller boy lunges forward, grabbing a mouth full of the bear’s leg and thrashing. A meaty paw swings toward him but the family mastiffs burst onto the scene and immediately pull the grizzly’s attention away from Strix who is bound and determined to rip off the beast’s leg.


"Strix Klein"

Quill doesn't say anything else other then shine his teeth at his brother, much mirrored in the same annoyed glance as he did. As Strix jumped forward again, Quill didn't hold back and wait for his own turn to attack. He worked right alongside his brother against the bear just to hold it off long enough until the dogs got here.

Quill took a bite on the same leg as his brother just on a different angle. The bear swiping more towards Strix than Quill and then their backup arrived. The mastiffs immediately took action against the bear causing it's attention to turn from the pups and seem confused now with all the canines surrounding it. It may have started to question it's ability to fight them all off, but it wouldn't have much of a choice now. With the mastiffs jumping up onto it's back and legs, Quill too rushed in for his own part in fighting the bear off. He was sure Strix wouldn't be far behind him. His teeth sank into the belly of the bear, and he had to wonder how much it feared for it's life.

"Quill Klein"

Quill flashes his teeth at Strix, earning the annoying sibling a huge eyeroll from the smaller boy before they both rush in to attack. They attack the leg, the grizzly roaring in pain and confusion. Then the mastiffs arrive, swarming the bear’s legs and some even leaping onto the grizzly’s back. Quill rushes in, going under the bear to bite at the soft belly. It roars in fear and uncertainty as they all attack and that is when Strix’s small form rushes in, leaping up to grab ahold the bear’s muzzle. Eyes flash with deadly delight as he looks into the doomed grizzly’s eyes, keeping his hold on the beast’s muzzle as he watches the life slowly drains from its eyes.

Only when its death throes have ceased does Strix release the dead grizzly’s muzzle to look at Quill. As annoying as his brother is, the smaller boy cannot deny that he is a great fighter. Huffing an irritated sigh, he grounds out, “Not bad Quill.” It almost physically hurts Strix to say that but he does want to acknowledge that his sibling can fight. Even if he has to give a huge eyeroll for the snappy quip that is sure to follow.

"Strix Klein"

The army of canines all surrounding the bear, it had no choice. It was why they had the dogs after all. But they made for great learning opportunities for the boys without having their father step in. They could learn to fight, to protect their land, and their families Quill supposed.

With the bear going limp, Quill jumped out from under it before it could trap him underneath and soon it would be lifeless from the relentless attack. He liked the violence more than the killing honestly, but this time he was just being a sourpuss. He just liked to get under the skin of his siblings. They were the easiest target after all.

Strix may have been praising Quill for the second, well praising was a strong word. Quill didn't let it go to his head, as much as Strix may have suffered to get it out. "Sure, yeah. You too I guess." The dogs started to take care of the bear by skinning it for it's hide. "Don't be so stupid next time." He was just being a bad brother, that's what he wanted to put out at least. He'd turn to walk away back to... whatever it was he did. Think of some other way to be the little demon he was.
