Their run in with a feline out by the stone steppe had given them a fun kick off for their day together and they had simply kept that theme rolling as they continued to move north through Boreas and into the mountains. The bear in the mountains had given them a tougher challenge than the cat had, but with Saracyn beside her she felt invincible. They worked together so well it was just like breathing. It was something she had always known, but more recently with the steadily growing pack pulling her attention she hadn't been able to live it as much as she would have liked. Now it was just the two of them against the world and she was having a great time.
As they came down out of the mountains they passed through a section of oddly formed caves, the passages more perfect and flat along their walls than she was used to caves being. The tunnels were dark, but the faint glow from the markings that framed either of their eyes gave just enough light to make out turns on the path or things in their way so they wouldn't run into them. Up ahead she could see the light where the opening of the mine was waiting for them, but before they got to that she heard a sound behind her, like someone had bumped into something or something had fallen over. She paused, looking back over her shoulder for a moment with a frown. "What was that?" she asked softly, her whispered voice echoing around them.

Fighting alongside Avacyn against the tiger and bear had rejuvenated Saracyn and reminded him of how much fun it was to fight with his twin sister at his side. They worked so well together, it was like two bodies sharing one brain and soul. Life had begun taking them in their own individual directions with their lives, but it was moments like this that kept the bond between brother and sister alive and strong, and reassured Saracyn that no matter what they faced or how the world tried to separate them, they would always be together. The pair of wolves worked their way down through the cave system in the mountains to reach the base to the north, having little difficulty navigating through thanks tot heir keen eyesight and sense of smell. Soon enough, they reached the final tunnel, an oddly well shaped one that led out to sunlight.
Saracyn smiled and began to walk with Avacyn towards the light—until a scuffling sound behind them gave both wolves pause. Sara's head snapped around, leering back into the darkness of the mines when Ava asked what the sound was. Saracyn didn't respond right away, instead peering into the dark with steely eyes, looking for any signs of movement. When nothing came, he gave a soft hum and shrugged his shoulders, turning around—and finding another wolf right in front of his face. "Gah!" Saracyn exclaimed in fright, stumbling back and winding up on his haunches. The other wolf was a tall, gangly looking creature with patchy fur and gnarled, yellowed fangs that showed as he grinned menacingly at the twins. "Ooooh, lookie what we got here, boys! Meal delivery!" the wolf cheered. From behind Saracyn in the darkness, several more voices giggled and growled with ravenous hunger, and one by one a small group of the same freakish looking lupines emerged to block the Mendaciums in.
"Get the hell out of our way, patchwork," Saracyn growled back at the wolf blocking their exit. Saracyn rose to his paws and moved to stand beside Avacyn, fur bristling and fangs bared when the other wolf laughed again. "Naw, I don't think we will. You two look mighty tasty to me! Why don't you stay for dinner? It'd be our pleasure!" The cannibal wolf licked his lips, and Saracyn decided then and there that this conversation was over. With a snarl, Sara lunged for the wolf, catching him off guard and slamming him into the stone wall of the mine, one massive paw grabbing the wolf's face and slamming his head back against the rock over and over and over again, the fight kicking off as two of the other wolves rushed at Saracyn to try and save their leader while the rest rounded on Avacyn.

Avacyn had just begun to believe that it was nothing as well and turned her attention forward at the same time as Saracyn—only to be met face to face with something that she could loosely call a wolf. She jumped back with a gasp, but managed to keep herself on her paws while Saracyn stumbled back. He was scraggly with patches missing from his fur, his fangs yellowed and eyes crazed. She had never seen a wolf look anything like this before and she just stared at him aghast as he called back to some others that were deeper in the tunnel behind them, calling them a meal delivery. The laughter and growls echoing behind them was unsettling and it made her skin crawl.
Saracyn returned to her side and she kept close to him, a snarl pulling at her own lips as well as they tried to intimidate the tall, lanky wolf to get out of their way. That clearly wasn't working as the disgusting wolf called them tasty and invited them to stay for dinner where she was almost certain he was implying that they would be on the menu. She wasn't any more willing to put up with this creepy nonsense any more than Saracyn was, but he made the first move, landing on the wolf that had stopped them with very clear and violent intentions. She didn't get much of a chance to see how that fight went though because as soon as Saracyn made contact with the wolf-like creature and his buddies caught on they all swarmed out of the darkness toward them. She reached for the one closest to her as a few of them appeared around her and she hooked her claws into the side of their neck, pulling them toward her and dodging their snapping jaws to clamp her own jaws around the side of their face, pulling screams from the wolf as she bit down around their eyes and jaw.
One of the others landed on her, clearly trying to save their friend, and she felt their teeth in her scruff, making her snarl in response. She shook her head to do more damage to the one she had a hold on before she let them go, letting them fall to the cave floor and seeing them scamper away into the darkness. The one that was on her was pretty light luckily so it didn't impede her movement much and she was able to twist around, throwing herself into the stone wall with the wolf now sandwiched between her and the stone. With the hard scales that capped her shoulders slamming into their ribs and making them give way under the pressure she put on them, the wolf let go of her with a gasp, staggering back as she stepped away from the wall of the tunnel again.

Saracyn looked like a brute possessed as he unleashed his fury on the revolting fucker that had dared to imply he and his sister would be on their meal prep. He didn't know how many times he ended up slamming that wolf's head into the stone wall, but at some point, the gray stone had been stained a messy red with paste-like splatter dripping down the walls. The heavy thudding soon gave way to wet squishing, and by the time the two others had made it to Saracyn, the back half of the leader's head had been flattened in. Sara felt the teeth of one of the wolves bite into his hind leg, sending a sear of pain lancing up through his muscles, but it enraged him more than it hurt him.
Dropping the still and bloody corpse of the leader to the ground, Saracyn rounded on the wolf on his leg, twisting about to snap up the other wolf's leg in his jaws. This wolf was much smaller and lankier than him, meaning it took almost no effort for Saracyn to whip him off his paws and slam him like a sack into the cave wall. The wolf yelped in pain and crumpled to the ground, but before Sara could finish him off, the third wolf lunged at him, twisted teeth snapping at his face and neck. Saracyn grunted and growled as he struggled back against this wolf, this one bulkier than his friend and more of a challenge—but not quite enough of a challenge. Saracyn pushed back against the wolf, managing to twist their bodies around and use the momentum to throw his opponent to the ground on his back with the Mendacium atop of him. Two massive paws gripped the cannibal's jaws and pried them open, snarling as he lunged down and bit onto the wolf's writhing tongue with his jagged fangs and ripped it from his mouth with a guttural scream ripping from the cannibal's throat.
Saracyn spat the wolf's tongue out to the side, then slammed his paw into the wolf's side, sending him sprawling across the ground. The wolf stumbled, blood pouring from his mouth, and then hobbled off back into the darkness. Turning back to his last opponent, Sara cringed in disgust when he found the lanky wolf already eating the body of the dead leader. Oh for fuck's sake... he thought with revulsion as he stomped up to the wolf with murder in his eyes. The cannibalistic creature took one look at Saracyn and yelped before scurrying back off into the darkness, but not before snatching his friend's tongue up as a snack. With his opponents beaten, Sara turned to find Ava throwing one of the wolves off her back, anger flaring in his heart that these monsters dared to lay a paw on her! With a roar of anger, Saracyn rushed in to aid his twin against their demented foes.

Avacyn rounded on the last two wolves that dared be brave enough—or stupid enough—to stick around after the knocked the wind out of the second one that tried to fight her and sent it skittering back to which it came. However, she didn't get a chance to fight either of them because her maddened brother came roaring up from behind her, ready to murder the last remaining cannibals without a second thought. She saw the panic come over the faces of the pair of them and they yelped as they scrambled back, sprinting off into the darkness to avoid the red and black wolf that was barreling at them.
"Saracyn!" she called, catching him with her paw on his chest to stop him. She knew that he would probably want to chase their would be attackers down, but the last thing she wanted to do was go charging into the darkness after these fuckers. There was no telling what they'd find down in those tunnels. "Come on, lets just get out of here," she insisted, pulling him back toward the entrance and running out toward the sunlight before any of them could get brave again. As soon as they were out in the sunlight she felt like she could breathe again and she slowed to a stop once there was a good bit of distance between them and the tunnel of fuckery.
"Gods, what even the hell was that?!" she muttered as she panted and caught her breath, looking back the way they came with a mix of revolution and confusion. Well, one thing was for certain, surely nothing could be worse or more strange than that for the rest of their trip. She sighed and turned her dark gaze back to Saracyn, looking him over for any injuries. "Are you okay?"

Avacyn had been right in her assumptions: Saracyn was fully prepared to run down each and every single cannibalistic wolf that lived in those godforsaken tunnels. Fortunately, his sister's calmer head prevailed, and she held him back to prevent him from running off into a very stupid and gory suicide. Saracyn huffed and snarled louder, his rumbling voice echoing down the mines after their would-be predators just to get his message across, then followed his twin's lead bolted for the sunlight and fresh air. Once they had emerged out into the cold world once more, the pair sprinted as far from the mines as their legs could carry them. They only stopped once the mine entrance was far out of sight. When they paused to catch their breaths, Sara began to take stock of himself, checking on his injury. The bite on his leg was nothing serious and would heal quickly, and the blood he was currently caked in wasn't his own. He was fine.
Saracyn gave a short, sharp huff of breath and shook his head with disgust. "Vile, revolting little fuckers!" he spat in disdain, glowering eyes leering back the way they came. Saracyn made a mental note to avoid those caves at all costs. Actually, maybe he'd come back one day just to cave them all in and bury those rabid dogs alive in the bowels of the earth. Wouldn't that be a delightful little project? Ava asked if he was okay, and Sara nodded his head. "I'm fine. One of them tried to nibble my leg, but it's nothing." He turned his concerned blue eyes to her, coming closer to look her over for injuries as well. "They didn't get you, did they?" After confirming she hadn't been hurt either, the red-furred yearling breathed a sigh of relief. "C'mon, let's get the hell outta here..." he said, then turned to lead Ava northward, away from those cursed caves.
