Not the most pleasent spot

Kione enjoyed nothing more than being around his family, and the more friendly the members of the pack were the more he got to enjoy his time. He had always enjoyed family and after the death of all his blood kin the wild dog cherished any form of family all the more. It didn’t matter to him that these were wolves, the moment he’d decided to join they had become the center of his world. The family was always a priority.
So, here he was exploring a strange place with a pretty lass getting to explore something new. The ocean itself wasn’t an overly new sight even if it was farther south of where the pack lived but this dormant volcano was a fascinating place. Grass turned into rock which was of an abnormally darkish color and riddled with cracks of some sort. The smell that came from it caused his nose to scrunch up at first but while he didn’t care for it he was getting used to the scent to not put all his focus on it. "Never been on a patch of land quite like this one for sure."

Now that she had finally caved and agreed to start taking lessons with her father on fighting it had allowed her at least slightly more freedom to go out into the world and see all of the things she had heard in her stories. She still couldn't go that far and she had to have one of the highly skilled fighters of the pack with her as an escort, but it was something! The spotted man she had grown up around in the pack seemed keen on getting out and seeing some new places as well so here they were, venturing into territory that he hadn't even been to yet. It was a fun trip so far, but she wasn't entirely sure if that was credit to Kione or if she was just that excited to be off the island. Either way, she was eager as they moved up the craggy landscape. She scrunched her nose at the strange smell that came from the bigger cracks in the ground that were letting out hot steam, deciding that this was not going to be a spot she'd want to come back to very frequently. "No kidding," she commented with a soft scoff when he spoke. She walked over to one of the vents, but she didn't want to get too close, both for the smell and from the heat that was coming off of it. "Is this like the volcanos my mom told me about?" she mused, glancing up the slope ahead of them.

It was nice seeing Ruse so excited to be out exploring. She had nothing to fear with Kione keeping an eye on her. Kione would give life or limbs to keep any kid in the pack safe. Kione acted as if life was all about playing around often enough, happy and upbeat as the painted dog was. There was a hidden layer under the fun that had a hunger for violence and a drive to protect.
Scenting the landscape there was no sign of any true threat out here. Most likely no predator felt a need to stay in this area too long after it was explored. Hot steam on a summer day wasn’t particularly wanted also. “Be interesting to see if the steam is still as hot in the winter, at least might not seem quite as unpleasant. Yeah, can’t say if I ever got close to one before but this definitely has to be one.” Kione glanced about the area, “looks like this one’s pretty dormant though. Life growing about the area that wouldn’t exist otherwise, also I hear the air is no longer clean for a period of time after a volcano has gone off.”

Ruse hummed with interest as Kione mentioned the possibility of this place not seeming quite so hot in the winter. Maybe this could even be a good place to come in the cooler months since it was so warm, but from what she remembered Auster never really got that cold so maybe it wouldn't mater. She was glad that her guess about it being a volcanic spot made her happy since she was just guessing things based off of her lessons and stories so it seemed like connecting what she had heard to the outside world wasn't going to be so hard after all. She nodded with understanding as Kione mentioned how this one must be dormant and all of the signs of how that was true including the plant life that wouldn't be here and the fact that the air wouldn't be clean for a long time after it went off. She supposed she'd never actually know what that was like unless a volcano exploded around them at some point, but she could see how that would be true. "Is there anything else to look at around here or should we head somewhere else?" she mused, starting to move around the edge of the dark, heated, rocky landscape.

Kione had been slowly making a circle over a portion of the old volcano, nose reluctantly following a scent but he raised it up, scrunching up his nose and then swatting at it to shake off a spider. Ahead of him, hidden in the shadows of the craggy rock he could now see numerous spiders. They were just spiders so not an overly big deal.
Ruse asked about leaving and he turned his head intending to answer when one of the spiders that had been hidden actually came out charging at Kione! Kione snarled at the thing and swiped out with a paw, batting it away before it had a chance to bite him. Attacking spiders? Not fun enough to fight nor likely very tasty. He had no idea if these were the story that could harm him with their bite and he had no desire to find out with no good reason.
"yeah, let's go find somewhere new to explore. If for no other reason than to get away from the stink here. The place is certainly interesting in being different but lots of places more enjoyable to look over I'm sure." He'd head off northbound at their decision to leave. Maybe they'd go back closer to pack land northbound and turn west. There was only so far they could go before they hit hallows turf but he knew there was greenery that way to explore.

Ruse looked up toward Kione, expecting him to answer as she asked about leaving, only to see the spider that was skittering out at him. She squealed and darted away, patting over herself to make sure none of them had gotten on her. She hated spiders and wanted to get away from them even more than she wanted to get away from this awful smell. As soon as he agreed to to go someplace else she nodded eagerly and was hurrying him to wherever else he had in mind. She didn't really care where they went next as long as it wasn't here! Sure, she knew spiders were kind of everywhere, but ones that attacked? No, she was never coming back here again! Brimstone Lake was now officially on her do not visit list. "Anywhere is going to be much more enjoyable than crazy, stinky spider land!" she insisted, eager to see what else Auster had to offer.
