The call to travel had been worming its way into the earthen wolf’s mind, burrowing deep until it became an itch she just had to stretch. Athena was born to a band of roaming nomads and, despite how much she loves Fenmyre and the wolves in it, the pull to explore can get… overwhelming. She had approached Chimera, seeking his permission to leave for a few and stretch her restless bones. The King had agreed and Athena had quickly packed what she needed and set out. It is cold beyond the Bifrost with winter still trying to keep its hold on the land. Athena travels far, running, looping, stopping, and playing whenever she wants. The stone wall that reaches up from the land like jagged, broken teeth eventually comes into view and the earthen woman stops to inspect the crumbling structure. It is impressive but she is more concerned with finding out what is on the other side. Nimbly she leaps through an opening, dark paws hitting the ground on the other side as her amber eyes look around and a smile tugs at her lips. The peaceful day is suddenly interrupted by the roar of an angry bear, who, unbeknownst to the woman, had been lounging on the other side of the wall. Oops. Letting out a bark of surprise, Athena dances away from swinging paws while snarling at the creature. "Athena Nocturna"

Today, Merc made his way through the woods of the Armada and out the otherside. Feeling his body had much recovered, he lengthened his run until he was past the woods, and into a barren territory on the other side. The largest feature of this land was a decaying wall that looked as if it might have been impressive in its prime.

As he veered closer to the structure, he heard the sound of an angry bear's roar. He paused, wondering if he had inadvertently disturbed it, before realising it was nowhere in sight. The sound of a surprised bark further proved it had not been him that distrubed it - but someone else.

Assuming that any wolf out this far North was likely from the Armada, the man dove in. Feeling it was his obligation to answer a call from any wolf of the pack that had sheltered him.

He found an opening in the wall and leaped over it, finding the scene beyond. The wolf was a stranger to him - but that was hardly surprising. As for the bear… he ran straight towards it, nipping its butt before twisting and running back the way he came. Hoping his attack would prove to distract the bear from the hapless wolf for a moment.


"Speech"

Athena growls and ducks under a paw that is aimed for her head, amber eyes spying a tall wolf running up behind the mad bear. She can’t see what he does but, whatever it is, causes the angry beast to roar in outrage and turn to swat at the taller wolf. The earthen woman uses the distraction to leap up and grab a mouthful of the thing’s cheek, teeth slicing through the tender flesh near the bear’s eye. Another roar, this one of pain and Athena is forced to release her hold and back away as the clawed paws are swung toward her. She feels the air shift as one swipe, narrowly misses her. Oh this is fun! "Athena Nocturna"

The bear did indeed turn to face him. He was left with a brief moment of oh shit! before the wolf he had rescued takes the opening. As he backed away from the bear - facing towards it - he would see her leap. She managed to reach its face, and tore a chunk from its cheek. An impressive attack, and he found himself cheering her on quietly under his breath. Tensing as its claws turned towards this wolf, but she managed to release her hold and back away before they found their mark.

Now with the bear's attention on the wolf that had done it the most damage, Merc came charging in again. This time he aimed for its leg, and bit down as hard as he was physically capable. He heard a crunch and hoped it was bone as he released his grip and jumped back. It was so close this time, he felt the disturbance in the air of its strike, and knew he was luckily its meaty paw hadn’t found its mark.

"Speech"

They harass the bear from both ends, the taller male staying near the butt while Athena happily takes the bite-y end. The unknown wolf lunges forward, biting a back leg until a sickening ‘pop’ sounds. A roar of utter pain fills the air and Athena lunges forward quickly, aiming to get the bear’s attention back on herself. She snaps and snarls, spittle flying as she advances on the polar bear. The wounded creature hesitates, slowly limping backward in an attempt to put distance between its self and the wolves. Amber eyes look to the stranger, dark eyebrow quirking in silent question. If he wants to kill the bear she will help, otherwise the pair will force this bear to limp away and rethink its life choices. Once the bear is dealt with, the earthen female turns to the tall black and wolf and cracks a wide grin, saying, "Nicely done! Name's Athena. Do you fight bears often?" "Athena Nocturna"

The bear’s will snapped, and the fight left it. It began to amble away from the wolves. The stranger looked across at him, and Merc shook his head. Pushing it into a corner where its only choice was to kill or be killed, things would only get more dangerous. He had done what he had sought to - save the wolf.

Now that he could move closer to the wolf without a bear between them, he realised she was not a wolf from Armada. He didn’t regret saving her just because she was not associated with them, and it had been a good battle. “Mercury, and I don’t make a habit of it. Do you?” He teased back. After all, she was the one who had disturbed it.
