Fern decided to travel up north in the hopes of finding a nice place to drag Rudyard to. The couple are planning to be married soon and the gray girl wants to take the motley boy someplace he has not been before. A crumbled wall appears in the distance and she trots happily toward it, her sword buckled across back as she travels. She didn’t plan to be gone from the Hallows too long, so she didn’t pack much to take with her. However, Lark’s Song had been the one item she had to take and the gray girl is glad she has it.

A sound, low and rumbling greets her ears and blue eyes snap to the side as a huge lion slowly stalks toward her. The spring thaw is in full swing and, with it, hungry predators have gone in search of food. Turning to face the huge feline, Fern growls in warning, planting her paws and standing her ground as the cat flicks its tail. Her sword remains in the scabbard and she will not take it out until she has a clean shot at killing it.

The lion charges.


"Fern Lark"

He hadn’t had a chance to really explore the wall last time. The bear had put a damper on any explorations. Today, he would make his way there again. Determined to do so unhindered, and explore the craggy ruins for anything interesting.

As he made his way to the crumbling wall, he heard the sound of a growl. Moving along the wall until he could see what was going on, he found a wolf. A wolf, and a lion. Wondering just how often predators stalked this territory, he surveyed the situation. The wolf looked battle ready, and was that a sword over her shoulder?

Surprised, but not letting it slow him, he entered the battle. Coming up behind the lion as it started its charge. He dove in at the same time as it moved, aiming to grab a back leg by his jaw to ruin the momentum of its charge.


"Speech"

Fern stands her crowd, growling and snarling as the lion stalks forward. A flash of dark fur catches her attention but she does not allow her gaze to leave the large cat. The fur resolves into a wolf who materializes behind the lion and grabs a back leg as the feline tries to lunge toward her. The confusion on the lion’s face has a smirk crossing gray lips and Fern rushes in to attack the cat. She does not use her sword, instead opting to use her teeth to latch onto one of its ears. Thrashing her head, Fern rips apart the ear in her mouth before backing away from the hurt and angry lion.

"Fern Lark"

It was with some disappointment that he would see the sword-carrying wolf strike with her fangs in the opening he had brought her. Her strike grabbed it by the ear before it could turn and retaliate to him. Giving him longer to work on the large cat. He continued to yank and dig in to the leg, drawing blood and not letting go until he heard the limb snap. Leg broken, and yowling in pain, the lion turned to lunge at him, and he backed off before it could get a grip on him.

Heart beating quickly, he watched to see what the stranger would do next. If she gave him another opportunity, he would try to end this against the large predator.


"Speech"

The stranger digs into the lion’s leg, breaking the cat leg’s in the process. It yowls striking out at the wolf that had just wounded it. Fern sees the opening she has been waiting for and she reaches back to pull her sword from its home. The steel shines in the winter sunlight, well-oiled and clearly well-cared for. It catches the light, reflecting it as she drives the sword straight for the feline’s head. The lion turns to find the source of the thrown light, and Lark’s Song pierces the lion’s skull, ending the confused cat’s life in the space of a breath.

Fern huffs around the hilt for a moment before planting her paws on either side of the cat’s face and pulling backward to free her sword. Lips curl up in a smile as looks the stranger, quickly cleaning off the steel before sliding it back into the scabbard. A bright smile is given to the taller male and she says, “Thanks for the help! You are a great fighter. Do you… want a lion’s carcass?” She can’t really carry it all the way back to Auster but he might get some use from it. Almost as an afterthought she adds, “My name is Fern. Nice to meet you.”


"Fern Lark"

To his great delight, the other wolf drew her sword, and he was treated to the sight of a wolf wielding a blade as she drove it into the creature's skull, and gave the fight a very final end. He released his grip on the cat and brushed his paws in the grass as he looked up to properly survey the stranger now that neither of them were fighting for their lives.

“Are you sure? If you don’t want it we could definitely use it” he admitted. Knowing the budding pack Wren was creating could use all the resources it could get.

“I’m Mercury, it’s a pleasure. I can’t say I’ve met a wolf that fights with a blade before” he said, some boyish enthusiasm leaking into his tone.
