For Edelweiss

She decided to go up north, hunt and practice her skills. Edelweiss had taken a detour to where Abaven had been, finding the school-pack no more. She had a wonder where Voodoo could be before moving on. There were other things to do now, and spring was here. Perhaps she would indeed visit an event with Ghoul, or perhaps she would join Habari to be with her friend. Either way, she heard movement ahead. Spotting a man hunting a sheep, she approached. The sheep raised a head and looked about, with Edelweiss ducking behind a boulder. She wasn't big, nor was she small. Just enough to hide. She would watch and wait for her moment to strike, even if she had kicked a few rocks to lure the sheep's curiosity closer. With it distracted, she hoped the man would accept the save and lunge at it. She could block it from her angle. |

Movements slow and fluid, from afar Seumas could be mistaken for a cat on the hunt. His pale yellow eyes were focused only on the sheep, whose attention had been fully captured by the rocks that had scuttled down the mountainside. He followed the direction of the sheep's gaze with his own. There, hidden mostly behind a boulder, was a young wolfling. The sheep was grazing basically at the midway point between them. Seumas tried to make eye contact with the girl, flicking an ear forward in her direction. If his presumptions were correct, she had made the distraction, and was now in a pretty good position to cut off the sheep if it decided to bolt again.
The sheep ducked its head to begin grazing again. Its delicate horns scraped against the rocky ground of the valley. Now was the chance. Eyes flicking briefly upward to his concealed companion, Seumas tensed himself, then sprung forward. In three big bounds he was upon the sheep. The sheep began to bolt, but not before the hunter's teeth managed to land a blow to its right hindquarters. Still quick on its feet, the sheep stumbled exactly where planned and was fastly approaching the wolfling.

The man managed to land a blow to the sheep. It bellowed and jerked away, going right at her. The prey was unaware of the huntress, so she opted to step out and surprise it. Hooves skidded against the earth, a surprised gasp from its jaws as wild eyes looked at the girl. Blood poured from a shallow wound, hindering it. Edelweiss lunged at the sheep, delivering a bite to its meaty neck. She felt her teeth graze skin before plunging in, tasting blood. The sheep managed to pull away from her, crying out in pain. It tried to swing at her, but she dodged and stepped back. If the man needed food, now was a chance. While it was distracted, he could strike. |

When the wolfling revealed herself form behind the boulder, the sheep skidded to an almost standstill in fright. Where Seumas had managed to tear at it's hindquarters, its wool was dripping a deep red. Taking quick leaps towards the pair, Seumas' hay coloured gaze concentrated on the powerful lunge from the young female, and the scent of the yew's blood grew stronger as a blow was dealt to the sheep's throat. This would be it.
The sheep in it's survivalist anger swiped at the female, but thankfully she swerved nicely. Almost upon the pair, Seumas took the opportunity to deal another blow. Moving in quickly to the sheep's side as it was distracted, the hungry wolf lunged to tear at the underside of the yew's neck. With a strong hold around the tender flesh, Seumas yanked hard with all four paws firmly on the rocky ground. After a few seconds of struggle, the yew finally fell lax.
Seumas straightened up and licked the blood from his mouth and looked to his impromptu hunting partner. "Thanks for the save."

"It was no trouble." She did not know why the man thanked her for acting naturally. Edelweiss had only done it out of instinct, not any reason to help him personally. She bent her neck, all the same, giving him a nod. Now that the goat was dead, she wondered if he would agree to share a bit of meat? Her stomach rolled a bit from the effort she had put out. "May I have some?" she asked him, gesturing with a paw to the corpse. Sometimes wolves could get territorial - even if one helped them - and possessive. Edelweiss didn't know if he was willing to share or if he'd pick up the body and go somewhere else to eat. Either way, she waited for permission before leaning in. She did not want an unsightly scar on her muzzle or face. |

The female nodded her head coolly in response to his gratitude. She didn't seem to care much. Seumas didn't mind. At the end of the day, she'd helped him out at random. He didn't need a conversation partner. Never mind the fact that he'd spoken to a total of one other soul since autumn.
"May I have some?" Well, he wasn't exactly going to be able to eat it all himself, as much as he would have liked. As the male was without a home base, not only couldn't he drag it anywhere worthwhile, burying it in a place he wouldn't be likely to return wasn't on his agenda. He nodded towards the quickly cooling body. "Have at it."
Sitting himself down, Seumas would wait until the female had eaten what she would like, before most likely gorging himself. Now with spring coming, soon enough his ribs should become a little less pokey.

"Thank you, sir...?" She left it in the air about giving his name to her because it truly did not matter much. She moved closer, taking a leg for herself and pulling it from the corpse. As quick as possible and she backed away with her prize. Edelweiss began to settle, watching him if he chose to take some meat too. Her tongue rolled from her mouth, licking her lips before digging in herself. "My name is Edelweiss" she gives him, for once not liking the silence that fell. She felt oddly old for her age, having broken it easily "do you... live around here?" She also asked, wondering. It seemed an odd place to hunt if not, but who was she to judge? She would accept his words and move on. Alas, the conversation was a thing. She felt prompted to do such after their hunt. 3/3 - medium hunt 1/3 - met new wolf |

The youngling quickly tore a leg from the carcass for herself and backed away. He understood the general wariness - a lone male stranger wouldn't be the smartest person to let your guard around down, especially when food was involved. It still kind of stung his feelings a little bit. Seumas himself tore a sizeable piece from the haunch and gulped it down, taking the leg opposite the female's before lying down with it to chew at. Preoccupied, and unsure where to proceed with his hunt partner, her let the silence lounge between them.
Said silence it seemed, was a tad uncomfortable for Edelweiss, as she then went on to introduce herself as. Seumas nodded at her, licking his lips as he paused in his meal. When was the last time he'd had such a catch, had the opportunity to eat until he was truly full?
"Nice to meet you Edelweiss." he rumbled, dipping his head. "You're a skilled huntress for one so young." This femal ewould be around the age of his younger siblings - he wondered if they were out hunting yet. Seumas took another quick tear of his food - he couldn't help himself - before continuing. "My name is Seumas, and no, I do not live here." He paused, unsure whether to not to go into more detail. Edelweiss didn't seem the overly talkative sort. Under normal circumstances, neither was Seumas. "I don't really have anywhere specific that I love anymore. Do you?"

She did not know how to take compliments that weren't from Ghoul. Instead of thanking the man, she dipped her head a bit as if indeed acknowledging his words. She allowed the silence from herself as she listened to the man. Seumas. Only when he stopped talking did she start again, either too averse to speaking over someone or just too polite. "I am a vagabond." Habari was fit to burst with children, yet she did not give that information away. It was not her place nor did she think Ghoul would appreciate that. "I call no land home, at least not right now," Edelweiss told Ghoul she still needed time to adjust to the idea of a pack. So he let her have that time, and she'd meet him later "yet there are not many packs in the north anyway" Just Armada, to her knowledge "it is mostly a free land." Unaware a new pack was forming, she could not give information that was not her own. She did not like to ask questions about others so much, so she allowed herself to eat before adding anything more. 3/3 - medium hunt 2/3 - met new wolf |
