New Daddy Day
Alastor

Fia was a pretty quiet child since she was born, but she was starting to come out of shell a little bit and become herself. She was still relatively reserved and quiet, but with the open possibilities of the world, or moreso the pack. She was a little more explorative now unlike the first few times she had left the den. She didn't have much of a desire to go too far from home though, she had everything she needed right here.
It was an early or mid morning, she stretched from a long sleep that was a part of her regular pup routine. Before all those adult responsibilities and things, those weren't even in her sight at this age. She'd learn soon though, the importance of her blood, her life, and her family. And one day maybe she'd be just like Avacyn or at least helping her sister with higher pack duties and festivals and things. It was a small thought, but not one that shown bright in the present. She did like the idea of spending a lot of time with her sister though.
Fia took the short walk through the family den, quiet steps out towards the entrance. She took a seat just inside the mouth of their royal den and waited for one of her family to come... escort her out in a way. Maybe she just wanted the company really, because she was getting old enough to go a fair distance from the den.

Large paws stepped with surprising silence as Alastor walked up the winding mountain path back towards his family’s den. The dire wolf had completed his morning patrol through the lake Elysium was set on claiming and had made his way back home with no particular goals or purpose in mind. Manea was out with Avacyn working on the logistical aspect of expanding their pack and Saracyn was doing… whatever it was Saracyn did with his free time. Training his raptors, usually. That left Alastor with the responsibility of keeping his eye on Fiametta. His littlest pup had reached the age where she could be trusted to wander the pack lands on her own, but being the protective father he was, Al always felt better when he could keep a watchful eye on his precious nugget of a wolf. Besides, the days of her being small enough to scoop up for mandatory daddy cuddles were far too short, and the next thing he’d know, she’d be as big as his first litter and fully independent.
As he neared the cave entrance, inky black eyes spotted the fiery form of his little Fia waiting at the mouth of the den, looking about like she was waiting for someone. A devilish grin split the dire brute’s lips as he began to sneak up closer towards the cave entrance, keeping his profile low as the master hunter stalked his “prey”, hugging the side of the mountain to remain hidden. Once he got within a few yards, Alastor’s grin widened and the wolf sprung into action, bounding up to the cave to snatch up his daughter in a surprise snuggle. "Haha! Sneak attack!" Alastor declared with a boisterous laugh, his large paws aiming to keep Fia clutched close to his chest while his digits wiggled over her fluffy tummy to tickle her mercilessly. "There’s no escape for you now, little princess!"

Fia would stay just there in the mouth of their den lost inside her own blank thoughts as her father stalked up to her. Maybe she would have noticed if she was a little more intent, or maybe not. But either way, she never saw him coming.
She wasn't scared of him when he jumped out from his "hiding" and attacked her. Maybe a message to how safe she felt in her home and with her family. As Alastor scooped her up and held her hostage, she giggled loudly which would usually be so unlike her when not engaged. It was one of the few moments she could actually show a little personality. Her paws pushed into her father's chest as if she could pull away from his massive, heavy frame but even she knew the press of her paws on him would do little to deter him from tickling her. "Dad, stooop!" She still giggled through her tone, which did feel a little weird to her but normal all the same. If he didn't stop she'd resort to gnawing gently on his paws with no real damage done of course.

His surprise attack worked, and Alastor ended up successfully ambushing his small daughter. She giggled and flailed when he scooped her up, fighting with all her little puppy might to break free. Of course, it would have been in vain against a wolf as broad and strong as Alastor, but the dire wolf dad had more fun playing along with his children than resisting them. As tiny puppy teeth nibbled and gnawed at his knuckles, the Mendacium wolf gave an overly dramatic whine of pain, flopping over onto his back to support the fire-marked pup stop his his own torso. "Oh noooo, I’m being slain! Everything is going dark! Goodbye, cruel world!" And with an exaggerated death rattle, Alastor flopped limp to the ground, pink tongue hanging from open jaws as he “died”.
Alastor lay in his mock death state for a few seconds before spontaneously coming back to life with another dramatic inhale of life giving air, smiling up at the pup perched atop him with nothing short of pure unconditional love that only a father could show to their child. "Hello, my little ember! What are you up to today? Going on a grand adventure?" he asked, bringing a paw up to try and smooth down some of her disheveled and fluffy puppy fur. He loved his daughter dearly, especially because she looked like a miniature him, their matching fiery markings seeming to sync almost perfectly like a mirror image. There would never be any doubt who her sire was.

With Alastor rolling to her little pup attempt at biting him, she easily flopped down over his chest but with no victory cry or anything like that. As her father played defeated and nearly dead, her big ears perked forward as she focused onto his face as if maybe he really was but she knew a little better than that. Still, playing with him like this was pretty fun even if it didn't seem so looking at her. Alastor was a fun dad, as much as Fia may not have known of the kind of man he could be or what he had done before his life as a family. At least for right now and maybe always she would see him for the loving and engaging father he was.
The expression on her face relaxed some as Alastor came back to life, her eyes still searched over his own face and fur when he spoke. She acted casual really, but he must have known her better to see through when she was trying to act tough or something of that sort. "I was just waiting for someone to come by..." Without admitting it, and thinking she was hiding it, she did want one of her parents or siblings to come by so she could do something with them. She was a little too modest to go out in search of one, and she didn't know what exactly she wanted to do. Her first spring still lingering in cold may have kept options limited but honestly she just wanted to spend time with someone outside of the den even if it was a pointless walk.

Alastor watched Fiametta's reactions go from alarm to relief to relaxation as he resurrected himself from his feigned death, cradling his little girl atop his torso while they cuddled for a moment in the cave entrance. Fia told him that she had been waiting for someone to come by. Alastor knew his youngest still had reservations about going out and wandering the pack lands by herself, but he didn't push her to overcome them. He knew she would in time and forcing her to grow before her time would only do harm to her. If there was one thing the dire brute had committed to, it was that he would never become his father under any circumstances. Aggressive, violent, domineering, cruel. As ironic as it was for him, Al would only ever be the antithesis, everything his father was not. His children would know nothing but safety and support and love for all their days.
Smiling his bright, toothy smile up at her, Alastor lifted a massive paw to go and pet gently over his daughter's head and tousle her large ears with a gentle affection. "Well, now you've got me here, so you have my undivided attention, my little ember!" he decreed with a chortle, abyssal eyes shining with a profound fatherly love as he looked back into the youthful set that matched his in color. "What would you like to do today, Fia? Would you like to go exploring, or play a game, or go fishing, or... anything! You name it!" Alastor's tasks had been completed for the day, so the father and alpha had nothing but free time to spend with his child. Whatever her heart desired, they would share the day together.

Alastor was right in thinking that Fia would one day grow beyond what she had known in her young life, wanting to go out and explore a little more. She wasn't scared of the outside, she just had no interest in tousling up the comfortability of the easy life she had today. She did one day want to be like Avacyn, at least wanted to help her sister with the bigger pack related events and really just be that helping paw to the rest of her family. She wouldn't always want to be in the shadows. But for now it was easy just to deal with her teachings from Irilyth and her parents, help out around the den, and the occasion of making her way out towards the lake or short distance mountain trails.
Shaking her head with a gentle smile as her father rustled up between her ears, she looked at him intently as he asked her what she may have wanted to do with the time they had together. She took just a moment to consider her options off of what Alastor offered her too. And with a quiet tone in a little question, not as if her father would tell her no considering he had already given her the range of freedom, "Can we go somewhere past the lake?" She didn't know exactly where that was or what was there, but maybe just something a little new to share. Even if it was just more mountain ranges or beaches or whatever else she may have come across staying here by the den. She was rather content with what was available to her, so she wouldn't be disappointed with what they may have come across today.

For his precious little fiery one, Alastor would have done anything, given her everything her little heart desired, taken her anywhere her starry eyes wanted to see. So when she asked simply to be taken somewhere beyond Alias lake, it was an easy request for her sire to agree to wholeheartedly. A hearty chuckle rumbled deep in the dire brute's chest while his smile widened further still, his long silken tail swishing about in eager wags as he replied, "Of course, darling! We can go anywhere you want to go!" Alastor rolled to his paws with a surprising amount of grace for a wolf of his stature and shook out his coat to smooth it out against his body. He knew exactly where he wanted to take Fia today. "How would you like to go see the beach? I can show you how we all cross over to the mainland if you'd like."
As far as interesting places on Alias Island went, Alastor could think of none more exciting than the land bridge that led to the rest of the world beyond their island home. For Fiametta, this would be her gateway to the wide expansive worlds of Boreas and Auster beyond, and one day she would get to cross it and tread those lands for herself. "Would you like to walk there with me, or ride on my back?" he asked, beaming down at his princess, letting her decide what she wanted to do today. Whether he was empowering her to be independent of being her chauffeur, he was happy with either outcome.

Her tiny tail wagged gently as her father had quickly agreed yet again, holding up to that very little and easy promise he gave her. She knew there were further places to go, but for right now she was fine with just this. It would seem an easy route for a parent.
"Okay." She agreed with a small smile up at her father as he now stood over her. She took a moment when he asked which way she wanted to travel, because there was a part of her the had considered just the little bit of independence in walking to the land bridge herself. She didn't deliberate long before her smile rose just a little bigger going towards Alastor's side and reaching her paws up so that she could pull up onto the long fur of his back. She couldn't truly know how long these days were numbered and how much they could mean to her father. She knew she wouldn't be small and young forever, but without knowing it there would be a time where she'd look back on her father being the best he could. She'd be grateful for it. She'd ride out the travel comfortably on Alastor's back where she had grown used to feeling of his plush fur and holding onto it.

Alastor beamed with all the love of a new father shining bright in his obsidian eyes when his little kindling went to climb up onto his back. One major melancholic lesson he had learned with his first litter was how quickly they seemed to grow up. It seemed like just yesterday he was carrying his little firefly twins around on his back as they explored Boreas, and now they would both be nearly two—full grown wolves, adults in their own rights. He thought of his strong and strapping son and his beautiful and sagacious daughter. Oh, how they'd grown to be so amazing... but secretly there was a part of his heart that yearned for those early days of carting fluff balls around on his back and chasing them in the fields and the many, many tickle wars he'd waged on their squishy puppy bellies. The lesson had been bittersweet the more he reflected upon it, but if it had taught him anything, it was to cherish the time he had with his children, and Fiametta would reap the benefits of his lesson learned.
Once his precious ember was safely snuggled up in his plush fur, Alastor rose to his full height, letting Fia tower above the world that normally dwarfed her. "Hang on tightly, little love!" he reminded her, and then he set off down the mountain path from their family den. Alastor moved at a steady lope, his paws trotting along the rough, craggy ledges of the cliffs while the Mendaciums made their way down to the pine forests below. Although he moved briskly so as to thrill and delight Fia, the dire brute never once went any faster than he was sure was safe for her. He didn't run or sprint, not with the precious cargo on his back. Like a living shadow, Alastor wove between the trunks of the trees, letting Fia enjoy the sights around her while he took them out farther than she'd ever been before. They reached the lake, then continued on past it, moving along the rocky shore and back into the trees in the direction of the land bridge. This was farther out than he'd taken his daughter before, and all of these sights would be new discoveries to her youthful eyes.
Alastor's gait made short work of the trip, and it wasn't long before the father and daughter emerged from the tree line to the pebbly shore of Alias' coast. The smell of salt on the sea breeze was stronger by the water than it was inland, and the partly cloudy day allowed for a few scattered rays of sunlight to break through to dance and glisten off the rolling waves of the sea. Above them, a flock of gulls cried while they drifted lazily in the breeze, looking for fish. The tide was low right now, and the land bridge over the strait to mainland Boreas was clear and visible—as was the mass of the continent that lay beyond it. Alastor lowered himself to his belly to allow Fia to disembark and explore her new surroundings, gesturing with a massive black paw to the landmass off in the hazy distance. "Do you see that big land over there, Fia? That's called Boreas. There are many, many more places to see and many, many more wolves that live over there." The jovial father turned a wide smile to his child and leaned in to boop her forehead with his nose. "When you're older and bigger, you'll get to go over there with your mother and I and see it all for yourself too!"
