Its in the trees
Tove

Kotori had made his way from the rapids and down to the falls. He stopped when he scented an elk. Well, that was meat and extra to spare. Kotori jogged and hopped down the rocky falls until he caught the scent of elk all the stronger off in the nearby trees. After watching the trees for a bit he spotted movement that had nothing to do with wind.
Kotori glanced to Tove then left the water's edge, taking a wide circuit into the trees as well. Kotori finally spotted the elk fully. It was already a good size but the signs of youth were still there to be spotted. The thicker muscles and power of an adult weren’t there just yet. It had that lanky look about it. Velvety antlers had sprouted but still had a ways to go even if this was his first set.

The older woman has become the younger wolf’s shadow, the pair moving from one place to the next in silence. The sound of falls greets Tove’s ears as the pair followed the rapids and soon the roar can no longer be ignored. Kotori scents the air and the nebula-clad woman does the same, coming to the same conclusion the earthen male does. There is an elk nearby. He jogs forward, hopping down the rocky juttings of the face of the fall with Tove following carefully and, somewhat, closely behind.
Once their paws hit the ground, the scent of elk becomes stronger and Kotori glances to Tove, the older woman reading his intent in the few movements of his eyes. They take a wide circuit, moving into the trees until they find their target. Duel-toned eyes look to the young elk and she sizes it up before glancing to Ko. With a soft grunt and incline of her head, she draws his attention to elk’s back left leg, where a small wound seems to be troubling it. Eyebrows lift in quiet question.

Kotori had likewise spotted the injury and nodded in silent assent to the woman. He could see several ways for the hunt to play out and was deciding which was best to go with this time. “All right,” he spoke after deciding on the newest test, “This time I’m going wide and behind it. You stay near the tree,” pointing to a larger one wrapped about with numerous old thick vines, “and I’m going to bring it right to you.”
Kotori quietly slipped away from her, looking to disappear for a bit until he got into a good spot to get behind the elk, waiting in case it took time for Tove to get into position without spooking the deer herself. He was starting to get a well-rounded idea of Tove’s hunting abilities.

Tove looks to Kotori, the younger wolf nodding in agreement to assessment of the young elk’s wound as he comes up with a plan. He lays it out, telling her to hide behind the tree and he would drive it right to her. A bow of her head is given and the earthen wolf is gone, weaving through the shadows and disappearing into the foliage. Eyes turn to her chosen hiding spot and Tove moves to it, tucking her bright body up and under the green ivy until all that can be seen are her two-toned eyes. Looking to the spot Kotori said he would be, their gazes meet and she gives her head a slight incline to show she is ready.

Kotori kept a cautious approach to his hiding spot, an awareness of the elk at all times. Once there his attention turned, gaze seeking out Tove. She certainly was a colorful wolf. He returned her nod, put his gaze back on the elk, and after a deep breath Kotori barrelled out of his hiding spot, heading straight at the elk.
The stag seemed to jump in its skin before jumping in a perfectly vertical jump. At that point, it ran, herded by Kotori straight towards Tove’s hiding spot. The elk was running fully on fear, easily guided by the horned wolf. Once it was closing in on where Tove waited Kotori bit into a hind leg, crunching on it, barely dodging the kick it returned. The blood was an easy proof that the damage was done. It would never get away.

Tove hides under the broad ivy leaves, waiting for Kotori to get into position. Their eyes meet and a nod shared before he turns back to the unsuspecting elk. A moment later, he leaps out, startling the young elk almost out of its skin, and then they are both rushing toward her, the alarmed, tall, young elk being herd on by the horned wolf. In her hiding spot, Tove coils her muscles preparing to leap out, mind calculating the perfect moment to strike.
Hooves thunder while silent paws move across the ground, forcing the elk to barrel toward the ambush spot and right into the waiting jaws of the trap. Tove leaps from her hiding spot at the precise moment that the young elk’s neck comes into striking range, her nebula-hued body launching upward as Kotori strikes at the back leg. Teeth close around the side of the young elk’s neck and, as gravity pulls her paws back to the earth, she rips open a mortal wound on its neck.
It bellows in fear as its body crumples and Tove darts out of the way of its falling body. The young elk tries to thrash, aiming to strike at the wolves that killed it but it only serves to help it bleed out faster. Great ragged breathes slow and stop and the young elk’s life succumbs to the hunters work.
