Kotori lay on the hill watching the buffalo below. The seemingly passive giants chewed on the fresh grass, occasionally one would move a few paces but for the most part, they were like large statues when viewed at a distance. Did he need one? No. For a time he acknowledged the reality of no large pack to feed. The hunt would be fun though and challenging. An adult alone would be ridiculous but separating a younger one from the group and killing it was possible perhaps.
Kotori crept closer to the herd, gaze flicking amongst the lot as he decided on a preferred target. A foolish young one had apparently failed to stay next to mom. It had moved just a few strides past the herd, not far apart at all but it wasn’t tucked into the protective folds which left it vulnerable.

Eulogy has ventured out a little further today, her paws pulling her to a place where herds of buffalo wander. The warm spring weather has brought the mighty creatures out in droves and the older wolf has assumed that Kotori will be out here. Nose wiggles and a smile appears as she finds the earthen male’s scent on the breeze, her eyes trailing over to look at the hulking beast that litter the knolls as she moves. They seem unconcerned with her presence as the older predator moves, taking her time to approach the lounging Ko. Making it where he lays, Eulogy sits near him, allowing her eyes to sweep the herd before them. Finding the young buffalo that has wandered a little too far off, she then turns her gaze to Kotori in eager readiness.

Kotori looked at the older wolf musing over how she seemed to show up recently when he went hunting. Maybe he should offer her a position in his pack later? She was willing to work and follow his head which Kotori always appreciated. The more wolves who accepted his leadership the less Kotori felt a need to press for others to accept his status.
He nodded to the wolf and moved slowly to the best position that would line him up with the youngster that would be chasing him farther away from the herd. Even if they were to hunt the young one, this would be no small feat. The adults were a real threat in this case but real threats were good fun.
He thought of telling Eulogy to get on the opposite side of him but then changed the tactic. “follow behind me. I’ll get between the young one and the adults. Most likely they’ll want to defend it. I’ll deal with them. While I deal with the adults you continue chasing the little one farther away. I’ll help soon as I can. Up until I join in just focus on distancing it from them however far you can.”
Kotori jogged a short distance then broke out into a long-legged stride run towards the herd. Sure enough, the herd wanted to get to the child and call it to them. Kotori ran between, snarling and snapping at the giant buffalo, dancing to avoid being slammed into. He wasn’t going to seriously fight the monsters, not when it was a herd versus one wolf but he would keep them busy while Eulogy did her job.
