Gosh Flurry's head was itchy. She couldn't know this yet but the buds of her horns were preparing to burst forth, but they hadn't yet so all the young girl knew was that her head was itchy. The girl had moved towards the cavern that was part of the Pirate's stomping grounds, partially because she wanted to explore but also frankly because it felt good to press her skull up to the stone, it was cool and soothing and when that wore off it did a pretty good job of scratching too!
It was during one of these scratching sessions Flurry had become away of the bumps. The girl couldn't see her own head so she couldn't have seen them if she tried and even if she could have they weren't exactly big yet, though they would grow as she did eventually, for now, there were just slightly raised sections of her skull, slightly offset towards the outside of her skull on either side of her eyes, hardly visible even to anyone who could get a good look at her. But she could feel them. Flurry frowned, rotating her head while one of the bumps was pressed into the wall, feeling it the best she could, or at least the way that made the most sense to her young child brain in this exact specific moment.

Peering into the wide opening of the cavern, he hadn't noticed it before when walking by. Sure, they'd passed it a bunch of times, but normally it was dark and wet and that was it. But now, as his bi-colored eyes looked inside, the whole place glittered like the beach did at certain times. A small gasp of wonder left his lips as he took a few steps inside. His head careened around to get a really good look at the place. Ahead of him, at the back of the cave, was a pool that shined. Every few seconds, he noticed some bubbles and ripples as if there was something there. Curious about the contents of the water, Scald took a few steps in that direction until he heard a scuffing noise. Turning to look, he saw his slightly smaller and lighter-colored sister rubbing her head against a wall. Furrowing his brow in confusion, the slim boy changed his direction to wander over to her. "Flurry, what are you doing?" Scald asked as he took a seat and stuck a paw out to poke her side. He hadn't ever seen someone do that before and wondered if he should do it too. Speech

Flurry had her eyes closed when her brother walked in on her and she twisted her head to glance at him over her shoulder though kept grinding her head on the stone wall. "I got somethin' on the top of my head." She said it plainly, like that properly explained everything. "It's been itchy!" She turned away from the cavern wall and lowered her head, shoving it towards Scald. "D'you see anything?" She couldn't see the top of her head of course, maybe Scald could tell her there was something there. "Feels like bumps or somethin'." Maybe she was sick? Flurry didn't know exactly what was supposed to be considered normal yet, all she knew is her head itched and there was something on top of her head.

The way his sister swung her head at him after explaining that her head was itchy made his eyes widen for a second. Was she trying to headbutt him? Blinking a few times before he understood what she was asking, he peered closer to the two budding bumps that were atop her skull. Leaning in closer to get a good look, he let out a loud hum before pulling away and putting a paw to his mouth. "I dunno Flur, looks like you might be dying," he said sarcastically with an impish chuckle to follow. "Kidding, maybe you're gonna have horns like mama," Scald added afterward with a shrug of his shoulders. Unlike the rest of his siblings, he was the only pup with a seemingly hidden mutation. If he didn't want others to know about his quills, they wouldn't until the last moment. It seemed Flurry's mutation would be more like their mother's. Not like he cared or anything. Huffing out a large breath, he turned back toward the dark pool nearby. When he peered closer to it, he could barely make out the shimmer of fish scales beneath the surface. S C A L D

Scald Hmm'd and Flurry pulled her head back, watching her brother with mismatched eyes, wide with curiosity at what he'd seen. When his response came Flurry stuck her tongue out at him, rolling her eyes though there was a small bead of worry planted in her stomach. She shoved at Scald lightly. "You're a butt." She said teasingly.
Scald said she was probably just growing horns like their mother had and she cocked her head to the side considering for a moment, that seemed likely, she had dad's fangs after all but she'd been born with them already so why weren't her horns already on her head? That was a question for someone else to answer though as she noted her brother meandering over to the pool and Flurry frowned at him. "What're you mopin' for?" She asked, coming up beside her brother and giving him a shove, maybe a bit rougher than necissary but if he fell into the pond... Well...

Distracted by the shimmering scales of the fish swimming in the pool below, Scald didn't hear Flurry's approach. With his muzzle lowered toward the surface, eyes entranced on the water, he was soon caught off guard. One ear flicked in the direction of his sister's question and before he could answer, he felt all of his weight shifting forward. "Wha-" Scald wailed as his scrawny body teetered into the pond. Frigid water encased him as he dipped beneath the surface. Thankfully the pool was shallow enough that he wasn't going to drown. Flailing his legs around until he could get his bearings about him, Scald finally stood up. Soaking wet with ears drooped to the side, he sent his sister a glowering stare. "What was that for?!" He screeched in that sort of petulant child way that most adults would cringe at. "You scared the fish off!" Scald whined as if it really mattered where the fish went. Lifting a paw, the pup swiped it across the surface to hopefully send a splash back at Flurry. S C A L D
